I have stayed at Adam's campground two times. It's rustic and nice. I have been to the sturgis rally twice and four times off rally. I much prefer off rally. Less crowds obviously so pack your patience. Each town out that way has their own "rally". I always stop at Wall Drug and get a Buffalo burger and ride the badlands. Custer state park is amazing. Especially when ya get up close and personal with them. Spearfish canyon is awesome. Devils tower takes a good part of the day to get there and back. It's not on my top places to visit. The crazy horse monument is impressive and mount Rushmore too. Needles highway is very cool. To see everything you will need probably a good week

4:15 - You didn't mention Devil's Tower don't miss that ride. It sounds like you have a flexible plan for Sturgis once you're there - you mentioned a few places several times. About where to ride and what to see/visit on the way to Sturgis - I will definitely defer you to The Badgers (Sonny & Angie), Riding in the Ozarks (Mike), Ozarks HD Riders (Dan), and Road.Therapy (Dez). These folks will likely get back to you the quickest and have a lot of experience taking backroads and indirect routes to Sturgis. Regardless of the route you take and what you visit - enjoy the journey and capture the experiences as best you can. Ride safe!

How ya doin Chef. Thanks for another quality video and an important topic. With 106k plus miles on my 2019 street glide special I like to travel. With that said I pick a destination. Most of the time it's freeway riding (unless I have lots of time). On my trips I may make a side trip (or two). Early next month I am riding to California (from Ohio), up the coast to Canada. Into Canada then back East. I want to cover as much ground as possible so it will be freeway riding. I don't like making reservations for camping/hotels. Again, I may make a side trip or have a breakdown and not make it to where my reservations are. My problem when I am camping is that when I ride and am ready to stop for the night by far most of the campgrounds are closed. Seems like they close at 5ish. Well I am still riding till seven or eight a lot of times. If you roll your clothes it saves space rather than folding them. I save my old clothes and get clothes at Goodwill/second hand stores. Wear them for a few days then toss them. I too keep my rain gear in my right saddlebag. Ride safe to that state up North brother.
@ridingfreenation
@ridingfreenation 8 күн бұрын
The slab is always good for laying down the miles. I do not usually make reservations either, as sometimes I do not know how far I will get and do not want to stretch myself when tired, or stop short when I could have gone further. I have to laugh at the rolling the clothes thing, as I do the same thing. I find I can fit much more that way and they do not wrinkle. Have a safe trip bro! Sounds like an epic ride. Make sure you can convert MPH to KPH LOL. First time I rode in Canada, I was happy to see the 120 sign until I realized it was KPH. LOL

Great Vid and topic! I ride a Yamaha FJR 1300A...This is a great bike, but bleeds heat like a beast at full stop and low speeds. I primarily ride in the Pacific-Northwest, mainly in Washington state, Idaho, Montana and Oregon. These states in the summer commonly reach triple digits in the summer. So...The main objective is to stay hydrated. The second trick I use is what I call the "bird bath". I put a bag of ice in an insulated, zippered freezer bag. Place that in your hard bag on the bike and it will immediately start to melt at high temps. Once you get the melted water in the bag, I use a small plastic cup, scoop cold water and soak my head, shirt and pants. Works like a charm, every, single, time! It will make a long hot day in the saddle enjoyable and you will feel refreshed at the end of a long, hot day. You can also put drinks in the bag to keep them cool for breaks. If I can find a farm sprinkler along my routes, I use those also and soak myself 😎 Cheers!

Water and Gatorade are my choices. I wear a light long sleeve shirt over a tshirt. When traveling and it's extremely hot I soak my long sleeve shirt in water at gas stops/rest areas. I did this when I was in Death Valley where it was about 120 degrees. My shirt that I soaked in cool water evaporated in about ten minutes. But while it lasted it sure felt good. Thanks for another informative video Chef and happy 4th of July.

Recently purchased a 2024 Roadglide vivid black. Bought the Rockford Fosgate primary Amplifier pretty straight forward plug and play instructions. Now I'm having to plug the main fuse as for some reason I wont get sound. This happens inadvertently upon contacting my harley I'm being charges the diagnostic labor rate. I'm beyond frustrated with my current situation and wont buy another Harley in this lifetime.
@ridingfreenation
@ridingfreenation Ай бұрын
So normally when you install the amp, you will need the head unit flashed at the dealer to get the audio to work with the amp. Should be an easy fix. They shouldn’t have to diagnose anything really. And it is under warranty so they should cover it if it is anything other than the amp. You will likely have to pay for the flash though.
@dippa1965
@dippa1965 Ай бұрын
@@ridingfreenation - I might be wrong but the 2024 Model Roadglide doesn't require a flash. Nevertheless per the service writer being transparent he communicated that me installing the amp could result in it not being covered. I'm like well they sold me the Amplifier with no such disclaimer of me installing a plug and play Amplifier would be a problem. If I'm charged I'll be filling a claim in court.

@@dippa1965 all the 24’s will require a flash of the head unit with a new install of the amp. The flash is to get the head unit and amp to communicate. You will also need to make sure all your software is up to date. Being that the bike has so much electronic stuff on it, this will be something you will want to make sure is always current.

I'm not a Harley guy. I haven't noticed prices dropping as fast as cars on Japanese bikes. What I have noticed is the same bikes just sitting on the marketplace for months. Tells me prices should be dropping but owners won't drop. I also think new bike interest rates vs your current rate need to be taken into consideration. Hosed on a trade + a bit more expensive bike + higher rate may be significantly more expensive in the long run than a couple more years on an older bike.
@ridingfreenation
@ridingfreenation 29 күн бұрын
The metric market is dropping as a result of the bigger picture. People are always going to want the most for their bikes, but disposable money is hard to come by right now. The interest rates on bikes is part of the issue with sales right now. It is killing us for sure.

My 2007 Dyna would probably make 4-5k on a trade in. Here in the U.K. a 2024 Street Bob has a list price of almost £16,000 or about $22,000 plus taxes and fees. Add to that the Stage 1 upgrade, a few changes such as seats, bags etc. and I'm probably close to £20,000 or $25,500. Would it feel 5 times better than my 5k Dyna for the 25k I'd have to pay? I very much doubt it, I'll stick with what I have!

I'm in the market for a Streetglide, and I just had a test ride on a 2024. I have a 2008 Rocker, chopper style with 10" over forks and high apes and I want to complement it with a touring bike for longer rides or girlfriend on the back. This was my very first ride on a Streetglide. My only previous experience on a Harley touring chassie was a 2000 Roadking I owned some 20 years ago. But I was not impressed. Bike rides very smooth and handles good, but... the windshield! 😭Absolutely terrible, Im 6'1" and there was so much noise and turbulence around the helmet. Maybe I need to try a taller windshield, but I really don't like that look. And I also prefer some wind, as long as it doesn't cause turbulence on my helmet. I also don't like the riding position. Too upright, and foot plates too close, I had to lift my entire leg to shift. But I guess all this can be fixed with taller handlebars with more pullback, and forward mounted foot plates. Regarding the engine, I was also not that impressed. My moderately tuned 96cui twincam feels more powerful. Sure, the Streetglide is heavier than my Rocker, but still... But maybe it's because of the lack of noise (the 2024 was 100% stock, my Rocker has V&H no baffles whatsoever). You also don't feel the speed in the same way on the newer bike. Maybe I should try the 2023 model? Dealer has new ones in stock with large discount. Looks better also, especially the Special with the stretched bags. But it feels wrong to pay almost the same money for a bike that is much more dated.

At 1:58 you said you were getting winf. Your wind deflector was closed under the windshield on the 24. If you open that deflector and aim it up parallel with the windshield, the wind buffeting almost disappears. I’ve noticed when that is closed, it’s way worse.

Harley has to progress or be totally left behind but with that said I purchased a 2023 because I had a BMW with all the latest electric gadgets and I prefer analog. On the BMW I used sport mode always so the other modes were rarely if ever used. When the electronics go sideways it’s a major deal and I just preferred the older look. Once the question has been answered correctly, (not by some armchair mechanic that's taking a guess or repeating something they've read on the internet) then the banter and piss taking can start! Give the newbie good information that solves his/her issue.The only stupid question is the question that is never asked.

I love the ability to actually work on them. I had the cams and heads off this weekend. I wouldn't wanna do that on a 4 cylinder bike covered in plastic body panels. Don't get me wrong i wouldn't mind a sport bike like that or even a big touring bike. But the harley is like that carbureted hot rod you keep in the garage while you drive your commuter. Thoughts from a 26 year old rider. Harley is making progress with the pan America and sportster in making modern power plants and motorcycles, but in everything else they lag behind. And that’s not the worst of it. It’s okay to build old motorcycles. Look at Suzuki. The DR650 and DRZ400 have remain unchanged for 2 decades, However (adjusted for inflation) those motorcycles cost less than what they did 20 years ago. But it gets worse! Suzuki might be arguably the weakest of the big 4 Japanese manufacturers, and yet they still offer a motorcycle for every category. Cruisers, ADV, sport bike, naked, dirt bikes and even ATVs! But Harley has stuck to the cruiser segment. Again, progress has been made with the pan America. But Harley is leaving such a huge market share open that it is insane. I would buy the Bronx in a heartbeat if it would have come to market but the word on the street is that Harley killed it because it wouldn’t have been competitive both in performance and price. I expect more from Harley. They can’t sit back and ride the claim of “American made” anymore. My 2000 Honda Valkyrie was more American made than the same year Harleys. I want a Harley, but Harley refuses to build a bike that I would actually care to own at a price that a 26 year old all American boy can actually afford. (It’s saying something when Ducati’s entry lvl bike is cheaper than Harley’s)

28 year old and you summed up why I'm on a honda shadow. I grew up with harley posters on my wall, literally. My dad and uncles all rode twin cams or freedom 106s from victory. They started in various things though. Honda shadows like mine was common, vulcans too. But to get the same thing out of a harley I'd have to buy a carbed 88 for 5-6k. I spent 2k. That being said I am on track I build credit and get a down-payment together for a 2020 softail standard. Found a few for 10-11k and I'm going to save and sell my shadow. They're not worth the price practically. For me it's worth budgeting in because for four years I keep getting drawn back to looking at it. I'm in love with a specific model. I'm not looking at resale value. I'd prefer to die still owning that bike. But when i was just getting on two wheels, being more rowdy, not sure what my exact likes were, my shadow was perfect. I still love that bike. Wish I had gotten a vtx1300 or 1800 but it is what it is. I don't see the point in selling my 750 for the same bike that goes 20 mph faster at this point. With the Harley I get a forever bike. But that's only due to financing and a great used market in my area.

If I had gotten the vtx 1800 right off the bat I probably wouldn't be looking elsewhere. Especially if I bought a vulcan 2000. Those things are awesome man.
