Hello Kids, TJ and Rita here (yacht Bluebelle), just sold the yacht so wont be back in Ireland anytime soon. Hope life is still going well for you both. Keep motoring. Keep moving. Keep enjoying life! TJ

Hello, I've been watching your videos, great info and journey to follow, thank you. Question, I think I seen you using a GPS app on your phone while cruising, what's the app called? Does it allow you to plan route times etc?

Hi Pat, if you're interested in boat life, specifically buying a boat on the Irish Inland Waterways, you can find our new e-book on our website - cruisingqisma.com/product/the-handy-liveaboard-guide-e-book/

What do you do for your income?
@trevorbest-gn2dq5 ай бұрын
Great video. You touched on buying. How did you manage to finance this? 2 students graduating from uni usually have large student loans hanging over them so I imagine the bank was a no - no or was it the bank of mum & dad? That's great if they are in a position to do that. Is owning a boat like this like owning a caravan ie a depreciating asset? I would love to do this but the only way I see is releasing equity on my house.
@trevorbest-gn2dq5 ай бұрын
As you have indicated the price of a decent boat is quite high ( circa £50k - £60k. Was it difficult to arrange finance ( assuming 2 students did'nt have a huge wad of cash. What is depreciation like?
@trevorbest-gn2dq5 ай бұрын
So the boat came available to you just at the right time. Are there any other narrow boat in NI? I would guess cruising on either lough Erne could be quite daunting in a flat bottom vessel. I must admit the idea of living on the boat is appealing. Good luck.

Love what you're doing. I remember seeing Qisna on listings over the past few years! A quick question - I live in Dublin, have been on boats but not for any length of time and want (as recccommended) to book a proper cruise for a week or so to see how I manage - Shannon cruises are insanely expensive even in the off season - have you come across good value options in the UK? I was thinking maybe late Jan/Feb, rent one for 5 days and see if I can actually manage the routine alone (as I won't always have people with me).

Did you notice a difference in speed (slow as narrowboats are) and handling after getting rid of your hitchhikers?

Yes definitely! I feel like we were noticeably faster on the water with less resistance.

Hi folks, I am Freddie in the USA. My daughter (lives in France), and I are planning to meet in Ireland next April 2024. We want to hire a Narrowboat for a 10 day cruise. I hear you mention Enniskillen often. I want to visit as our ancestors are mostly from Enniskillen. I have found boats for hire, but in that area, no narrowboats. Do you know of a place in the area to hire a Narrowboat? Enjoying your posts. Thank you, Freddie Gillogly - Stanleta
@CruisingQisma8 ай бұрын
Hi Freddie! Sophie is actually half french. Enniskillen is based in the north of Ireland and there are very few Narrowboats up this direction because our waters are mostly a series of lakes connected by river and canal. You do find more NB down south but I only know one place called 'Jenny's Travels' that hires barges on the river barrow and the grand Union canal but that's quite a distance from Enniskillen. You can hire a standard cruiser from Carrikcraft which isn't as rustic but is very comfortable. Hope this helps! @Risingstar0324
@Risingstar03248 ай бұрын
@@CruisingQisma Thank you, yes, you are right. There are no options up north for Narrowboats, so will need to go with something more conventional. If we weren't so interested in visiting Enniskillen, then the southern routes would be more desirable. Thanks for your reply. Enjoying your posts. Freddie

Boosh! Straight to the F-ing info I clicked on the video for. Thank you 🙏 I've clicked on loads of vids lately. 1 minute intro, 2 minutes repeating the premise of the video title, a few minutes about their previous video. Ending with a vague conclusion that leaves you with more questions.

Very unusual to only have one battery. Normal arraignment is to have separate starter battery from your house battery/batteries. The reason is the starter is only able to do short heavy starting load not deep discharging. If your original batteries were just connected in parallel, without a charging relay that connects the house battery when your alternator is charging, then both batteries would have a shorter life as neither is capable of handling the others load type. With the standard arrangement a starter last years. I've never had to change mine, had the boat six years and it came with the boat. Also, if your starter is having to run the entire boat you run a risk of having no battery to start the engine if you let it drop too low. That cannot happen with a separate house battery. Sorry it's a long message but I'd hate to see you two stranded some day. Mark.
@CruisingQisma9 ай бұрын
Hi Mark, sorry I don't think I was clear in the video. The 2 batteries I replaced with the 1 battery are my starter batteries. We also have 4 Lithium batteries that power everything else except the bow thruster which has it's own lead batteries. ☺️
