I like the shelf! Do the items you put on the counter fit on the shelf so you can free up counter space? If not, a slim vase of greens and a frame or mirror could work! Love the whole room!

No one will be more invested in your remodeling videos of this house than me and my family! This is my childhood (and some adulthood) home! My parents built this home and raised our family there for nearly 30 yrs! We LOVE the laundry room makeover! It’s gorgeous! Even though it hurt my heart just a tiny bit when you ripped out that laundry chute, that was indeed, a child’s dream! (Perfect hide ‘n seek spot and so fun to slide down!) So fun to see the beautiful changes! I’m team shelf! Love it! And love the deck door with a window! Brilliant! My family is loving every minute of these videos! Can’t wait to see what else you have in store! P.S. so cool that you repurposed the shelves from the basement entertainment area! Our best friend/next door neighbor built those for us!

I was taught that precision woodworking by a japanese woodworker . Best decision ever, i have built multiple cabinets and shelves without nails in my house and they have held out through so much these 5 years since ive built them . The secret is the good ole saying measure twice cut once ,but u measure like 4 times them cut with hand tools and shave away any excess so it fits perfectly with each other. Cant even see the seams and im still so proud of my work .

Just get a hand plane, or use a block with sandpaper

The new door with the window was a BRILLIANT choice!! It changes the whole room. I happen to like the shelf-but also agree with not wanting to add stuff to it to make the room feel too “busy”. Good work, ma’am!

Actually love the shelf, adds visual interest. You could use as a picture ledge, add small plants as someone else suggested. Or not sure how wide it is, use tall narrow glass containers to put laundry detergent and laundry supplies in.

If you want to be in that room, your's is the only opinion that matters. I did that to my bathroom in my first apartment. I didn't know any better. I couldn't even see myself in the mirror, especially after painting the ceiling, too. But I've always been stubborn, so I kept it til the day I moved out.
