@@KinfolkTravels Hi, I'm from California. I just looked this up on Wikipedia and chose the ones I liked. I was making notes for myself just because I like to study other cultures so I thought I'd paste some of my notes here in my comment. I figured some people might find them enjoyable as well. I think it's interesting to find out who is considered popular in other parts of the world.

Is the Transkei safe? Silly question really - the Transkei is not just one place with one security profile. There are places I would sleep in the open and places I would not. There are places you will get robbed and places which are relatively safe. My favourite part of the Transkei is way in the North among the amaPondo. I certainly didn't feel safe among some of the Southern tribes.
@KinfolkTravels9 күн бұрын
That is so true, thank you for pointing that out. Like most places it is easy as a visitor generalize. Thank you for sharing this. The Northern part is that the area closer to KZN?

Fun fact: the outdoor onsens are actually used for the locals to cook not to bathe because if anyone did they would get severely burnt because the water can get up to 96°C which is 204°F!
@KinfolkTravels9 күн бұрын
Ahhhh that makes sense! Thank you for clarifying. It seemed extremely hot but thought maybe the locals are just super human and used to that heat. But 96 degrees is certainly a bit much 😅🥹

Kuala Lumpur safety 2.5/5? You must be living in area that full of immigrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, india, Mynmar and Arabs when you are in KL.😢 Jakarta & Bangkok Safety 3.5/5 vs Kuala Lumpur 2.5/5 ? You can check the statistic : crime and homicide rate in these 3 Asean cities to know the answer.

@@KinfolkTravels I was there in April 2024 and I stayed in a Homestay on Sankar road. But I really felt that the rooms are not heated enough. They have a personal heater for each room but it’s not really enough to heat the room properly and because of that I really suffered a lot at night when it was really cold. I want to go back in July too when I believe it should be a bit warmer. But you are right, Leh is really a very very special destination…..out of this world…
@KinfolkTravelsАй бұрын
I’m sorry to hear that :/ I can imagine April being quite cold. Was it full of snow? What did you do there, wasn’t a lot of places still closed? Hope when you go back you enjoy warmer weather. In July we didn’t need heaters it was warm enough ☀️
@neelenpatten2959Ай бұрын
@@KinfolkTravels Indeed, quite a lot of places were closed but there were enough places opened....I didn't miss anything really. The lady host at my hotel told me the Dalai Lama often visits few days after his birthday....Maybe it could be an interesting time to visit. I was mostly attracted by the monasteries because the way of life of the Buddhist monks has always fascinated me. Hemis Monastery and Thiksey were among the special ones. I need to visit again because I want to be able to discuss with the Head of Lamas at Thiksey. He is a very learned monk and he will probably have some secrets to share with me hopefully. There was some snow at one point and I managed to have photos of Hemis Monastery under the snow, which is something very rare.

Super affordable for folks earning in stronger currency than INR. Within India, the return flights to this place are more expensive than flights to Thailand. I feel some adjectives should be used carefully. Can be misguiding when people are generally browsing for information/

Why not go to Tibet!? Last time I was in Lhasa my heart stopped and ended up in ER. Then got arrested for talking about the Dalai Lama. For revenge I snuck into the potala palace from the exit and took pictures of the Dalai Lama’s old room… moving the barbed wire…. Sent the pics to the Dalai Lama’s office in McLeod gange ;)
