One of my very favorite things about costuming a play or a musical is finding the perfect pieces to put on the stage that tell the story. Sometimes I have to create it to make it look authentic, and sometimes I luck upon an original historical authentic item from the story! "The Fastest Woman Alive" is a true story about Jackie Cochran, an amazing woman who is the reason for a lot of firsts: like choosing the Santiago Blue color for the Air Force uniforms, first female pilot to break the sound barrier, she holds more flight speed records than any pilot to this day. She flew with, and was good friends with Amelia Earhart. Jackie even had a cosmetics line, and was the first to introduce greaseless moisturizer as we know it today. AND. she founded the WASPs (Women AirForce Service Pilots) in WW2 so that female pilots could do all the non-combat flying, so that more men could be fighter pilots. This beret is an authentic standard issue piece of the WASPs uniforms. And this is an original WASP pin 😍 My costumer heart is geeking out, to say the least 💙
