I'm having trouble accessing the RA part of the mount. The RA faceplate isn't coming off due to the latitude adjustment bar being in the way, and I can't seem to remove as easily as you did in your previous video. Can you provide any information/hints on how it is removed?

So I found a Cinetic animal the big one upright in the trash it was brand new it just had a clog of paper in the hose which I removed The vacuum was probably used about three or four times. I didn't think they pick up was all that great on it and then I started fiddling around with it and ended up removing that filter on the left hand side of the ball if you're looking at the vacuum from behind and ever since I removed that filter the suction has like doubled and I've never had an issue from the vacuum and have never had any dust issues in the motor doesn't run hot like it was running with that filter in it so as far as I'm concerned that filter is not necessary and will lead to an early breakdown of the motor or overheating or terrible suction power. I got it for free so I don't really care what that filter was for All I know is that I've been using the vacuum now for 3 or 4 years and it runs perfectly fine and doesn't get hot and has super suction so not sure what I did but it was for the better!

Hi, how would you make up for the fact that the telescope might not be facing forward exactly. For example, extreme case, let's say the tracker is completely polar aligned and the telescope is pointing to the east (so right). When we make it point to the Sun with your method, you will have to turn the tracker 90 degrees away from North and the tracker won't be polar aligned anymore. How do we take that into account? Does it not matter?
@JeliSpace
@JeliSpace 24 күн бұрын
Pretty straightforward, on occasion you will send the slew command to recenter on the sun and the correct the image using your adjustment screws. Making adjustments made to recenter the image will correct those imperfections. That make sense?

@JeliSpace
@JeliSpace 2 ай бұрын
Well its a little more complicated than that. Mirrors we use for checking our appearance have the reflective materials on the back of the glass making them very robust to cleaning. However with a reflector telescope it is a very fine coating of aluminum on the surface, it is very easy to damage it. So yeah a little extra care is called for in this case.

I noticed the backlash adjustment screw at the end of the video does not have a hole in the case unlike the hole behind the label, if backlash needs adjusting to this screw it might be easier drilling a small hole into the plastic case to enable any adjustment of the screw rather than having to remove the case once the warranty has expired? Thanks for the video & clear skies from across the pond.

Thanks for the video! I was looking for a video on how to open the mount and there's a lot for the AZ but this is the only one that I found for the EQ. My GTi started to behave oddly... Not stop slewing when get to target or doing three point polar alignment in N.I.N.A, for example . I leave by the ocean and I'm concerned about oxidation... Going to open it up to check things and maybe regrease it. Thanks!

Do you need to factor in the magnetic declination at your location when using this method? In my area, magnetic north is around 4 degrees west of true north. Is that enough to matter?
@JeliSpace
@JeliSpace 3 ай бұрын
On the compass app I have you can click on an option that shows true north. I am 5 degrees off so similar to you. I would try to make it as accurate as you can, the adjustment after that should correct the difference but only offers so much room.

Great video that provides some vital tips. I would not have known about the business card as feeler gauge step! I'm taking my Meade 10" SCT off the pier and putting my SkyWatcher Quattro 250P back on. I want to clean the mirror before doing that. I just bought a GSO 2" Barlow lens that I'm hoping I can get focus with, for continuing to image galaxies, at a longer focal length with greater magnification, while they're in season! I found that the 250P reflector focuses on stars and DSO's soooo much sharper than the SCT it's no contest. Autofocus on SCT gives best focus star size between 7 and 10. The 250P reflector gets stars autofocused to between 2 and 5. Thanks again for the great info!

Mostly everyone has a phone. Compass would work too as long as you had it stand off enough from the mount so the stepper motors didn't effect it. With the GTI and the phone mount it's far enough away, at least it was for me.

Eh they aren't too bad, to each their own. For sure could find cheaper options but they have held up well during lots of use and transport so if it is traveling frequently I recommend the extra expense at 12.50 each with a few left for other projects (which I have used them for)for storage alone though it might be overkill, I could see that.

What model is the SVBONY? SV503 80mm? I also have a SA GTi mount, and was looking for a scope with a longer focal length than my RedCat 51. (Yes, I know there is a quality difference there). How well is the mount handling the weight?
@JeliSpace
@JeliSpace 4 ай бұрын
Yes correct it is the 503 which is a er doublet. So there's a little bit of blue fringe on starts but it's subtle and not to bad. Focal length is 560, with reducer 430. The mount handles it perfectly fine I'm right at the limit and 300 second exposure aren't an issue. You can see the picture I took of M45 and M31 not to long ago.

I'm not familiar with SkyWatcher GEMs. I have Orion, Celestron AVX, and ZWO AM5 mounts. Did you use Sidereal or Solar tracking mode when you did the goto for the Sun? Also, did you stay in Sidereal or change to Solar tracking? It never dawned on me to approximate PA and then use the adjusters to finish the alignment. I usually struggle with the buttons when trying to get a daytime GEM to track the sun.
@JeliSpace
@JeliSpace 4 ай бұрын
I'm using Nina and a plug in called orbitals to slew to the sun when it sends that command it auto starts tracking at the rate that's appropriate for the target, including comets. So yeah solar but the telescope controller that Nina talks to is green swamp server and I can change the taking rate there as well. Either way I would setup any sunny day you can and practice.
