Please tell me you put ARP bolts in the stock connecting rods or went with a stronger than stock connecting rod. I had a PONTIAC 400 that i spun the rod bearings from over revving the engine. I was young & dumb and spun a u turn, punch the throttle & ended up doing a complete circle before i chased a friend who was going the other way. All the oil probably went away from the oil pick up. When i tore the engine apart, the stock connecting rod bolt had bent. This was back in the 80's when not much aftermarket stuff was available. Now i dream of a twin turbo 505 with Ram Air V or Warp 6 heads.

Clearances were checked before and after the procedure. He has been doing this exact same thing for over 30 years and not ONE SINGLE engine was returned due to a failure. So, I personally trust his actions over your opinion.

I have been ut of engine building since the early 80's and decided to hold a 40 AMC . From what I have gathered there is a recent history of Flat tappet cam issues thruour the entire V8 community, all brands having issue te bed ruined in short order. Any take of this thing? I have a long tome friend owns a cam grinding shop , he's saying he's seeing this trend also. He has been in cam grinding at lead 55 years. And around All the races in the region that long.

Hi - just watched your video, I’ve probably rebuilt near 50 Pontiac motors over the years. Although very obvious there is a boatload of engine damage, I’m curious why you did not inspect and take the oil pump apart first. Oil starvation would cause much of the damage you were finding . I enjoy watching your work .

We had received this engine from another shop that had did the rebuild before we got it. Roy already knew that the oil pump was full of trash and debris from incorrect installation from the previous shop. The customer had already purchased a new Oil Pump to install. That is why in the video, we didn't inspect it because we were going to replace it.

That's so cool. I see that there's zero error. Great job. I have a question and hope I see your reply. I'm buying a 400 sbc engine from a 1975 GMC RV. It has 74,000 miles. The last 3 casting #,s are 509. 2 bolt main from what I've learned. My question is, is this a good engine to build for a street engine for my 62 c10.? Thanks for your help. Truck Driver Ray ✝️

@@benningautopartsandmachine2504 Gotcha. It seems a lot of Pontiac guys go mild on their engine builds. I have a neighbor with 69 GTO and he just had OE rebuild as well. I tried to convince him to drop in a 500hp 455 but he stuck with the 350hp 400 !

This reminds me of the auto parts stores when I was a kid. I would go to pick up parts with my papaw or uncles and the aroma would hit you when you walked in the door of the local parts store. It was an even greater experience when I got to go in the back where the machine shop was and see all the machining going on and the engines torn down. That smell of diesel, gas, engine oil, and cutting oil from the maching process all mixed together and was almost heavenly to a young boy that liked working on tractors, trucks, and cars with his papaw and and uncles.

Many years spent working in that head department when my pawpaw was alive and owned the place. Haven't touched that serdi 100 in probably 20 years , I bet I could still run the heck out of it. That and the old slow surfacing machine. Done a many of cat , Detroit,Cummins JD 's on it. Mr Parks was telling the truth it's slow like a turtle , but very precise. Miss working in that head department if I had it to do over again . I would have done a lot of things differently.
