Autism is an improper pruning of the neurons in the prefrontal cortex. You literally cannot train away the autism the same way you cannot train away someone's eye color. Sure you can cover it up by teaching them how to mask, like putting on colored contact lenses but they will always be autisitc just ad their eye color will always be the same. Youre just making someone change thenselves to suit YOUR aesthetics.

Exercise is a socially acceptable form of stimming. Ex: when overstimulated I would often go for a walk or a jog to help get all of that energy out.

My autistic son does roleplay and does want to be in company of others!!! but has severe sensory processing disorders, extreme repetitions, hyper focused interests and very sensitive to noise so some of these descriptions of autism aren't correct!!!!

I am a parent of a child with autism and I may be getting custody of him. I am here doing research to better equip myself, can anyone give me any input or perspectives on if I should utilize ABA therapy or not. What are my options in this matter if ABA isn’t the way? I want to be able to provide my son with any and all tools he needs to be happy and lead a productive life.

The basic “evidence” they have quoted has been debunked and yet they continue to use it as it helps justify their abuse. They talk about a daily battle! Do you want someone who thinks they are fighting your child looking after them? If your child came home and said that when they failed the maths test they were punished would you be happy?!
@FloatingGoat27
@FloatingGoat27 Ай бұрын
I dont know who is talking about a daily battle, but raising an autistic child is a daily struggle/ battle. If he fails a math test, he will go back better prepared next time for when he does battle with a math test. Your propaganda is old bro. Life is a struggle/ battle if you are doing well.

I am saying that having ABA therapists calling their time with our Autistic children “A daily battle” is a poor sign. The idea that reward and punishment are the way to help an autistic person is accepted by those proposing ABA for treatment of Autistic children to correct behavior that would be considered unacceptable if applied to neurotypical children. Asking someone to modify their behavior to avoid punishment is just wrong.

@@adamruddle6558 "I am saying that having ABA therapists calling their time with our Autistic children “A daily battle” is a poor sign." What you are really saying, is that you lack evidence for your beliefs and faith in the your new religion, wokeness (neurodiverse denomination.) You are grasping at straws, and will hang your belief in (non ABA, what is the evidence based alternative you would recommend?) based on intentionally exploiting the word "battle". Just FYI, My son is autistic, it is a struggle and a battle to raise him. "The idea that reward and punishment are the way to help an autistic person ....(VS. ) unacceptable if applied to neurotypical children. " Buddy, sincerely, "Operant conditioning, or instrumental conditioning, is a theory of learning where behavior is influenced by its consequences. Behavior that is reinforced (rewarded) will likely be repeated, and behavior that is punished will occur less frequently." Buddy your religion is so strong that you don't understand that Operant conditioning is the fundamental learning modality of every animal on the planet Earth, even Autistic people. Are u presuming they are unable to learn this way? "Asking someone to modify their behavior to avoid punishment is just wrong." No it's right, absolutely, fundamentally, and legally the correct way to treat all human's on the planet earth. A meritocratic society, rewards good behaviors ( money, status, health, etc) and punishes bad behavior with ( poverty, shame, and disease) and prison. This guides humans through life, all humans, even if you underestimate Autistic people, like my son.

Like all wokesters before you. In your mind, or out loud you will say something like, " I still think it should have been handled better." Justifiable police shooting, Palestine/Gaza... whatever the situation, you will never offer an evidence based solution, just give that same platitude. So let me help you, here is what a good wokester would say, " ABA is terrible, not ABA, anything but ABA'. Then what?, I ask. "Well, Uhhh, I still think it should be handled better. (non-answer.)" No evidence based solution ever. And let me get to the next thing, where you try to become a guru, and flip the script of reality, I will help you here. Here is you next go to argument wokester, "Autism doesn't need "a solution" man, close minded man, I have all the non-answers, I'm the guru from the 1960's and you're the man." You are thinking, "I'm virtuous, and you're on the wrong side of history." Tell me great oracle, what does the future hold?

Cant imagine going to some "therapy" to let some random "specialists" decide whats "wrong" with me, and for them to then force me to change who i am, on a repetitive basis. So my son will NEVER go to ABA.

I don’t think that you can be a little autistic, you either have it or you don’t. ABA therapy sounds kind of barbaric; if someone is uncomfortable with my kid spinning I think they should go to therapy not my kid.

ABA therapy has come a long way. yes it’s controversial but it’s still important to helping people, especially those with low functioning autism. i understand ppl saying stims and lack of eye contact are not harmful, and i agree. but what about those who don’t communicate? if we use positive reinforcement to help people with low functioning autism learn that communication is beneficial, we can set them up for a better future.

My experience after attending these "social skills" groups: -During high school, I was able to blend in enough to make "friends," but none of those friends stuck around. - It made me overly concerned with others' opinions and being agreeable, to the point of becoming a doormat. A few people even commented on it. -It didn't do much for me in the long term, and now, as an adult, I'm essentially back at square one, with zero social life and nothing to show for it.

The arguments I have heard for the negative people. Is they have no idea what they are talking about don’t have children who are autistic or live with autism 24/7. Their opinion is that of an ignorant sociopath who thinks they are showing how virtuous they are parroting things that mean nothing but sound good. These are the same people who move out of state and move to a state and ruin it by voting the say way that made them move in the first place.

I have a child that is not diagnosed but he is showing signs of autism and I was thinking about getting him aba therapy but now that I see this, and the comments from autistic adults expressing their experiences I think I am going to put a halt on putting him in aba. I don't think it is right to bribe a person with a bag of treats, just so they can do what you want them to do. My kid loves gummies and I know that if I show a bag of gummies and request him to fit a shape in a puzzle board he would scramble to do it in order to get that fruit gummy snack.. That way of training is just wrong to me. My baby is not a puppy. I am getting my child OT and speech therapy though.

it's probably not all bad but it's definetly also not all good... never ever hinder an autistic person from stimming... helping them find healthy ways to stim sure... but don't make them sit still and force them to mask... thats the part that makes me furious

Studies find that nearly half of the people who went through ABA therapy met the requirements for PTSD diagnosis. ABA conditions children into masking their autistic traits, and teaches them how to please others and not focus on their own needs. ABA sometimes used (and in some cases, still uses) electric shocks as punishments. ABA still thinks that there is something inherently "wrong" with us and our autisticness. They still think we need cured. ABA therapy is ABUSE.

I have been to so many doctors with my son since he was 3 years old. He wouldn't speak a word until he was about four and he finally started talking and he started out with large words instead of the normal little words that you would expect from a toddler. Learning how to speak. I keep getting the runaround saying that he's just a kid and he'll be fine and he'll grow out of it. But now we are experiencing ARFiD also with him. It's like the pediatricians don't understand. When I tell them that autism runs in my family, my brother has it and they brush us off to rush to the next patient. I'm ready to pull my hair out. We've been dealing with this for 5 years now. He is literally taking 2 days to complete a test in school and his teacher is sending home tons of notes and I don't know how to respond because the doctors give me nothing. I think I'm just going to try to find a therapist for him to talk to and maybe something can go from there. Idk what to do anymore.
