Bless John Boyd and the Fighter Mafia! The USA had bought fighters that were just big missile wagons, and it really showed in Vietnam. The Viper was a total game changer. Forty years of production and service with most of our allies proves what a great platform it really is. It must be a rush to accelerate vertical. I can't even imagine what that feels like. Cool to hear Gonky's dad is an A&P. That license has kept a roof over my head for almost as long as we've been flying F-16s.

There is a story of Winston Churchill getting into a fighter, not sure which one. It was sitting armed and he test fired it before anyone bothered to check if the test range was clear.

I don't Know if anyone had said this already but the Ordinance they are dealing with appears to be a AGM 65 Maverick (Air to Ground Missile), which F16s do carry. Can't tell the particular model. From what I've seen bombs made for the US military have a OD green color to them. -

Love this guy,s analogy .NO LONGER RELEVANT .. ok why bother even going to the process of procurement when obviously everything is irrelevant . TOO LATE . If Ukraine had not been gullible and unloaded all of their Nukes on a promise from the most competent liar in the world .They would never have been invaded in the first place . What get,s me is how come everyone rallied around the Israelis and took military action to prevent the onslaught of hardware launched from Iran and their tbin pot terrorists . NATO should have acted immediately on day one of the OOPS invasion of UKRAINE. again, honest Putin and even more honest Lavrov . two of the most believable liars in the universe. continuing to spout that their military buildup were simply EXERCISES.

Also to add, Americans really never wanted Ukraine to have F16s. You really think its feasible for Lockheed to let Russians down a couple of F16s with their S300s or S400s and then take the wreckage back to Moscow and analyze it what its about? Imagine how many future F16 deals with the other countries its gonna effect. Imagine what new defence contracts would Russia gonna win over American competition if Russia manages to shoot down American birds. So dont be stupid Americans. Keep paying cash to that Zelensky guy. Make it look like you and Ukraine are still holding up. Make Russia look bad and thats about it.

With the F-16s, which I agree are still a highly relevant aircraft to this day, I wonder if they have, or can be modified to carry drogue decoys with upgraded wild weasel gear? I know these are not part of their normal load, however it would keep them in the race against Russki SAMs. Just a crazy thought.

China isnt cutting its production of its stealth aircraft AND their hypersonic glide vehicles ballistic anti ship missiles, massive type 055 destroyers, submarine fleet. China flies more heavyweight aircraft than all of NATO combined. The US better get its house in order because its already too late.

Yes, the truth is, when you are in the field and require immediate fire support, a 30-minute delay makes a huge difference to your troops. Just ask them.

It is certainly very instructive, to see developments in actual warfare, which have revealed many new approaches, and tactics. These include the highly original use of drones, as ordinance delivery systems, and I fear that Ukraine is a proxy war unintentionally. For we are learning much from how the reality of conflict in a non-asymmetric environment can play out.

NATO precipitated this conflict by pushing Russia into a corner. They ignored the reality that ethnic Russians living in eastern Ukraine were being systematically targeted by Ukrainian militias. They waded into this war with bravado and naivety. There is no evidence to support the claim that Russia has expansionist designs on western Europe. The risk that his conflict may escalate into nuclear war is growing daily. Its time to stop the carnage and negotiate and end to this war.

Hey Mover, I just wanted to commend you on what excellent content you’ve been putting out with Gonky lately. After your time in the T-38 ended and you had those issues with helicopter training I wasn’t sure if your content would continue to be aviation centric anymore. I’m sorry to say that was the main reason I followed you from the beginning. But you’ve found a way to once again bring your aviation experience and enthusiasm to your subscribers and I’m loving it, this podcast with guests format really suits you!

I suppose all shoot downs are technical malfunctions in that the aircraft failed to satisfactorily avoid a missile and then ceased functioning as an aircraft immediately after.

All these channels of former airmen, sailors, soldiers, marines etc. as nice as they are, terrific people, admirable, decent, salt of the earth - they’re all drinking the Kool Aid. They can’t get past the indoctrination and propaganda. I’d think they see how duplicitous and dubious the western media really is. But they don’t, not at all. This guys great but he’s lost on this war. He repeats countless stories that get big hype, but no push when the corrections come out weeks later. Most everything that happens in this war you’ll find a video for. If you don’t-it’s almost certainly not true. Ukraines launched more missiles into Poland than Russia. None of Russias missiles landed in Poland, unlike Ukraines. Ukraine doesn’t have an Air Force left, not really. And a handful of f-16 are thus useless beyond a concentrated role. But Ukraine knows they won’t be able to keep the runaways in stable condition, and f16 needs big, long and smooth runways for its delicate landing gear. Ukraine lacks the air defense to defend the runways and the jets. And the replacement AD will get smashed soon anyway. People think there’s been some long lag in military aid to Ukraine. It’s not true, they get stuff every week almost, certainly every month. And they’re still owed more kit than the west can find build or manufacture. 4 million 155 artillery. Impossible! Even if not, they do t have the tubes. So many are destroyed or beyond their useful life, and the west doesn’t have enough to give them. If you follow this war daily, on the battlefield, not the fake media, you’d realize how screwed it is. It’s over Baring a huge Russian blunder which I’m not even sure what blunder could be that costly. This channel needs to wake up and stop counting Su scratches that only exist in the minds of Ukraine propagandists, NAFO Bots, and crony corruptocrats in Ukraine and their shape shifting paymasters in the west who don’t care about Ukraine, Ukrainians, not Americans. It’s pure avarice, cupidity, perfidy, greed - pick a synonym. These ghouls mock the honest service provided by men and women like those on this channel. We cannot afford to stay stuck in our mind virus group think. It’s really destroying us, maybe not right now, but the future is far more fraught than it was before Biden’s disastrous foreign policy, which even Obama apparatchiks warned is all about.

The only thing that is going to help Ukraine at this point is for NATO to stay out of Ukraine, stop giving them aid, and for them to submit their unconditional surrender to Russia. Boris Johnson should have never went to Ukraine, NATO should have never backed Ukraine, they were about to sign a deal with Russia. And now even if Ukraine does exist when this war is over, East Ukraine will be a territory of Russia (which is predominantly ethnic Russians anyway) and West Ukraine will be a territory probably of Poland. The End

One FPV drone + RPG-7 warhead costs about $250 + $350 = $600. One F16 costs about $60 million, not including maintenance, fuel, weapons, and pilot and crew training. For that amount of money you could buy 10,000 FPV drone/RPG-7 units. That's potentially 10,000 vehicles disabled. So I can see why in a war of attrition a handful of F16's would be less useful than a mass of cheaper yet still very effective weapons.

I always thought Janes' USAF got the post shoot-down flat spin physics wrong. Where the (same make/model) aircraft downed would flat spin while intact, with a strange fireball located at one end, all behaving strange. But now I see, all these (25) years later, that Game had it right!

@petekaragiannis1716 Absolutely! The B-52 ‘Stratofortress’ phased out the B-29 ‘Superfortress’, B-36 ‘Peacemaker’, B-45 ‘Tornado’, B-47 ‘Stratojet’, and B-50 ‘Superfortress’. Saw the demise of the B-49 ‘Flying Wing’. Outlasted the B-57 ‘Camberra’, B-58 ‘Hustler’, and B-66 ‘Destroyer’. Also saw the demise of the B-70 ‘Valkyrie’; is watching the B-1 ‘Lancer’ decommissioning; soon will watch the B-2 ‘Spirit’ go for pasture; and definitely will watch the B-21 ‘Raider’ for retirement!

I only have ever flown bug smashers. I am so grateful you guys are willing to share your flight experience with us. Thank you for that! When I was doing my cross country solo, I took off from Bellingham international, and was transitioning NAS Whidbey's air space en route to Port Angeles. I heard the Navy controller talking to a pair of F-18s clearing them to climb. Now, I saw them off in the distance, watching that climb as I am practically flying backwards because of a headwind, and the controller called me to call out the traffic "Archer322 traffic two Navy F18s climbing to whatever," I just repsonded with have the traffic. I think she was pointing out that they were having way more fun than I was. I will never forget that performance watching those guys climb like that. Just seemed different up in the air. My only regret was not saying back, "traffic in sight, not a factor unless I get out and push!"

Back in my flightsim days, on the forums there used to be a space at the bottom of the message block for a motto of sorts. My motto was (and is still very true): "The best two pilots in the world are: The naval aviator, because they put it on and off a postage stamp every day, and the pilots of the Israeli Air Force, because they simply MUST be."
