Thank you, Lois! This is such a beautiful combination. I just experimented a couple of days ago with Obsidian on brown speckled clay with Midnight Blue. (Waiting on the kiln to see how they turn out.) I wouldn’t have thought to add oatmeal, but maybe I’ll play around with that today.

because it was a hot cone 6, did that make the blue stone more blue? The PC 22 label looks turquoise...your piece looks indigo or cobalt.

To help with the lid opening, I wipe the rim before I place the cap back on......I also have placed the jar upside down in water, let it sit for a short bit, then opened the jar without a problem. Best wishes, you inspire me to be courageous with my glaze combinations.

I bought Toasted sage because I liked the green colour so much, but it turned out like purple! (Like your mug.) Can you imagine why that's the case? I used a white clay...
@LoisHook5 күн бұрын
I would suggest that toasted sage may present differ on either different clays as the one in your pic is Lava Flek a high grogged clay and very Beige. Or maybe it changes at different kiln temps. Work looking on Amaco for that info. One would be fired on a high cone 6.

You do beautiful work! Did you continue to create terra cotta glazed pieces? I would like to create some tiles and am curious as to the best way to glaze them. I want to paint floral designs on them and would appreciate your suggestions as to the best way to go about it would be. Thank you for your generous explanations and videos.
@LoisHook9 күн бұрын
I only ever did that one bag when I first started to throw. If I remember they are fired cooler as the clay will melt if fired at stoneware temp but please look into that. I’m sure I had to use an underglaze and then a clear glaze over. Again it’s been a few years. Good luck.

hello, and thank you for asking what we as viewers like. Personally, I don't care much for music in the background. And I am a musician. I find it is often distracting and sometimes downright terrible and annoying. Especially when people put a short section of a song and have it repeat incessantly, it drives me nuts. Secondly, I prefer to hear you talk some of the time explaining, what you're doing and what we should be learning. Thirdly fast-forward doesn't bother me sometimes it's really boring watching somebody do something that takes a while when they could just skip forward. And last, it kind of makes me go nuts when a potter shows how they made or glazed something and then at the very end, they don't show the final fired piece.Those are my thoughts. Thank you for asking.

Why oatmeal flux instead of honey flux? What does it add or how is it different?
@LoisHook2 ай бұрын
I have both. Only just started to play with honey flux. Oatmeal thicker. Causes outstanding reactions. I think honey flux mixes with the glazes more and runs more. Merges more. Oatmeal seams to not run so much and cause colour changes it a short run. The only way to see what you feel is to buy and play with both. Do some text tiles.

Lois, so lovely to see you back. I have a question. When you did the dish set for your brother, you showed us several combinations, especially with toasted sage. Would you mind letting me know if toasted sage always went of first, or the other color used went on first. Im trying to duplicate some of the colors. Thank you

My understanding is all tested for food safe. I think red or Metallic glazes are an issue. Contact Amaco direct to check. They will answer on Facebook.

Do you know if children are allowed on these tours to Sting Ray City and Laviscount Island? I didn't see any in your video, but I wasn't sure if it just so happened that your group didn't have any children or if that was because they are not allowed.

Than you. I am struggling to get going again. A lot happened last year that was very difficult. But my husband broke his back in December. He had to have the top vertebrae pinned with two 10 inch titanium rods and I has been a serious journey. Mentally pottery needs a place back in my heart and I’m working very hard to get that back. These were filmed last October I would say. So still not there yet.
