Depends. That $21 tip on top of Base pay. Also if the miles is short.. why not take it? I careless about the how much the item cost. Even if it $1500.

@@TheOtakuKing So I think you missed that it was a Costco order. That $700 order could be a bunch of waters and drinks or a combo of produce, meat and prepared foods, or a ton of boxes of chips. I know when I put in that type of work I value myself at way more than 3% of an order. Also, this is a premium service. In my opinion, If you aren't tipping at least 10% you shouldn't be ordering. Lastly, if you can pay $700 for groceries, you can tip at least $70 for the person making the experience much, much easier on you.

I remember when I was a busser at a restaurant and I seen first hand how entitled and undeserving the servers were. They talk bad about people behind their backs but want them to give them money. Or if they do get money they complain it isn't "enough" I don't eat out unless someone's treating me but I see restaurants have also lost their minds with the mandatory tips included with the bill. God only asked us for 10%. How do these restaurants think they deserve more than what we give to God?

The tipping culture in the U.S. is insane! I think that it is normal for people to try to normalize a kind of "shaming" if you don't tip the way that THEY expect for you to do so. Meanwhile while the "fight" between servers and customers is going on, the business is raking in extra profit from not having to pay workers an actual livable wage and the government doesn't care.

The big problem with Doordash is they ask you dollar amount on check out, instinctively this seems more like a burden, with Grubhub, and a big part of why people spend more and are happy to do so is they just ask % on checkout. Its a huge difference psychologically, one feels like a direct burden, the other feels like actual gratitude from consumer perspective. The double worse thing with Doordash is instead of swapping this system to be like Grubhub, and just ask % so people who want to tip are more inclined to enjoy leaving a larger amount, they simply recently just reduced (on user end) the default amounts roughly speaking, so for 20$ if you used to see 3.50-5.50 now its 2.50 to 4.50. These days we are just lucky if customers at least click default option so this really hurt us all.

On the other countries don't tip, blame our government resources such as Department of Agriculture and our Trade Commissions. Their cost of living is almost always half to 30% of ours....and on top of that a lower middle class or poverty line American is making the same or less than that person in that other country who pays less than half of us for everything. Including free health care
@ilikememusic

The problem emerging is actually based off communities that are now regularly involved in tipped transactions as never were before because of class jumping. Black people in particular benefited from tips in America historically beginning with black pullman porter traveling train car workers who would work on segregated train lines from the Jim Crow south to the north and be able to encounter those without prejudice who could appreciate a traveled black man for a unique perspective and intelligent aspect of the American livelihood. For the past 30-40 years restaurant workers of higher price points have enjoyed 70-80% of their wages coming from tips after minimum wage. The regularity of more affluent communities tipping 20% or more on each check is what created this and also convinced certain state houses to change minimum wage for tipped workers to $3-$4 an hour because they were receiving $20-$30 in tips based off the customers satisfaction with the chefs choices of prices for their ingredients....

Why should I have to tip the cashier for doing what they are supposed to do. UGH. I used to be a server for nearly 5 years. I busted my hump for those tips back in the early 2000's. I was a fantastic server at a several restaurants. I never complained about how little a tip was. I could hear the gripes from younger servers because someone only ordered (X amount of $ worth) thinking they would only get so much of a tip. THE WORST ATTITUDE TO HAVE IN THE SERVICE INDUSTRY! Everyone deserves excellent service regardless of the amount of the tab.

Tipping is being used by companies because they don't want to pay their employees a living wage. It's absolute BS. These workers who complain about tips need to go take it up with the company they work for and stop feeling entitled to my money. Why do I need to pay them to do their damn job to serve me a product/food from a company they don't even own?? If an employee goes above and beyond then I'll tip but I'm not about to tip them to do their damn job. Some of these disgruntled self entitled workers will even tamper with your food if you don't tip them. Just look up the videos on KZfaq about delivery drivers tampering with food.
