Pretty decent advice coming from an experienced TCG Player seller. You are certainly right about KZfaqrs. Most are either misinforming or don't know what they are talking about. I also advise people that are starting to go ahead and rip open a few of those booster boxes and collector boxes. You will find out for yourself that you don't want to rip them. Because if you don't, and you're JUST getting started and you don't play the actual TCG, it is going to eat you alive wanting to open those boxes and see what's inside to see if you "made money". So go ahead until you don't want to lose your money anymore. And then if you still want to open them for the fun and to add to your collection or (if you play Magic) have some to play with, then go ahead and get one for yourself, but buy that SEPARATE from your case/other boxes you are buying to hold/flip. It's all about self control, and it's like a meth head trying to be a meth dealer with it sitting on the table in front lol. He's gonna smoke it, you can't stop him. If someone really wants to make money in this game, they have to overcome that urge first.

@TheDarkElder4 күн бұрын
Well, it comes down to demand there. If a set has no to little demand then its booster boxes stay flat or decline in price until someone chooses to buy again. Pokémon got more demand than Magic because of all the collectors of rare cards. They are good at that and people like the chase. Magic's collector boxes are not the greatest thing of all time for sure, so comparing them is a little off. Unless you want to compare "booster product of company A for $400" vs. "booster product of company B for $400", then I can agree. However, from a pure investment view there are still better options than booster boxes. Here it is more about the fun factor of dealing with collectibles of card games we enjoy(ed).
@TheDarkElder4 күн бұрын
For what it's worth, collector boxes to me are just for three reasons: 1, to open for special versions (of pringled cards and all, we know the 10 different versions of each card these days), 2, to look pretty on display (the art is okay, and they are small enough), 3, to have a higher "money density", i.e. they are smaller and cost more than regular booster boxes (at release). Performance is difficult indeed as there is little organic demand for them at release plus 3 months already. Partly due to WotC releasing two other sets in the meantime obviously.

MTG has a powercreep, feature creep, and greed problem. The reserved list is anything WotC decides to add to it, so even new cards can be reserved. Other reserved cards will lose value (except a legendary few), but new ones will retain it and maybe appreciate it as they are "reserved" now. Powercreep won't kill the reserved list. It'll kill the game and then the speculators. The game has become too complex because of their use of gimmicks and keywords (which inherently add complexity). These new features they add to the game will start to become overwhelming for newer players (if it hasn't already. I just got back in after stopping in 2010, and im still learning everything again). Just like many people turn away from TtRPGs because of the manual, new players will be turned off by the amount of rules text and keywords, and mechanics that have been added over the years (and with reckless abandon as of late). Greed is also making the game too expensive to collect. As a player, I can give WotC the middle finger and print proxies, but if I want actual cards, I need to buy their product, and purchases in the secondary market also support WotC. The prices are way out of reach for a lot of players, and that's because of greed. 30th anniversary, anyone? Secret lairs? Conspiracy sets? Ridiculous amounts of skews for a single set combined with the breakneck releases of new sets along with cards that are format specific will be another nail in the coffin for this game. Hype cycles and chasing trends are idiodic things to speculate value off of. They are fleeting, even in older society, and the only people who can benefit from them are the ones setting the trends or having the capital to absorb any negative impact. Im not sold on your premise. There is a lot more involved than just Powercreep, and a lot more nuances on how the market operates as well as how game design impacts future purchases. Hype trains are used to sell a product without actually providing value (preorders are a perfect example), and trends are too fleeting and subject to a number of human behaviors, which are easy to manipulate with marketing. The speed of society is an advantage for speculators wanting a quick buck, and not necessarily something that affects the supply chain (which can be arbitrarily set, which can be good or bad depending on how manipulative, or not, a company is).

I mostly play commander and haven't played for to long, i fell like the reserve list is useless. The point of card games is to play with cards and seeing timetwister for over $1000 when it's basicly windfall is dumb. I say just remove the reserved list. Plus EDH has it's own banlist and can fix itself.
@JD-gk7eh9 күн бұрын
If the Reserve List didn’t exist, power creep would make those cards irrelevant over time. WotC can only sell you so many duals, so many Time Walks before you don’t care. The solution would be to creep everything out of the game to keep selling cards.

As far as cards like the P9, no they have made no attempts to power creep those cards out of usefulness. They have admitted that Arcane Signet was a mistake to print, and is too strong. That is not even close to the power level of a Mox. Timewalk - this ability can be found on other cards and they have set it at around 5 mana cost. Timetwister - also an ability that they have printed over and over again, and it is about 5-6 mana each time. Ancestorial recall - Nothing even close to this power level on any card. Many of the broken cards are not broken because of the ability of the card, but the cost of the card. As far as creatures from 93/94 MTG, they lost usefulness about 15 years ago. I am more concerned about the power creep, making the game completely unplayable. It is getting harder and harder to play casual magic because you accidently are assembling infinity combos, even without noticing you have does so. I don't know how many times I have been in a game and I have said to someone, "You can actual just win right now because of X,Y,Z combo you have out." You also, need to run so much remove, because so many cards will win the game if the player is allowed to untap with it in play. It is not the RL that is in danger, it is the entirety of the game.

Obsoletion is the word for it. New mtg being more relevant to current year increasing deck synergy/versatility. Old reserved edh 'Staples' will linger or be proxied. I.e. Kinda hard to beat 0 mana add 3 of any colour if we ever get there then I think there will be much bigger issues in Magic. Every Magic players collection would essentially be worthless by utility. Essentialy the entire game would be considered "rotating"

I tend to follow cedh and a good example would be Nadu: it's still inside the top 10 decks on edhtop16 and some of those decks if you look at them are not all that expensive: If you remove the dual lands (Unnecessary given how much Nadu in and of himself ramps anyway) and some of the super fancy versions players include (price is inflated because someone uses a 1k version of sol ring instead of a reprint for example) it shows that a fairly pushed new and rather cheap card using fairly inexpensive cards in the 99 can do just fine and still be tournament legal.
