I thought that the stock footage of those porters? stouts? being poured should have had about two times the head in height/thickness. That's how Guinness is poured from the tap. Is it different for stouts vs. porters? I guess I'm remembering now that porters usually have more shallow heads than stouts.

Very expensive, for what it is, which at the time I said to myself = Not worth it!, afterwards.. = Do not buy this unless you want to spend $$ on a Very Strong Hoppy Beer! An Alternative.. Heineken.. Was my go to working beer for quite a while. I do not like it's mass corporation conglomorite though, but there so many that it really does not matter in the world. They DO havea Great Flagship product. I like it. But.. Give me a Grolsch Any Time! The problem with Green Bottle beer is that they are rarely Stored correctly = out of the light, as they get skunky, which is why most beer bottles are brown.

In High school in the 90's, basic Busch was our Go To! Not because it was good, but because it was affordable, but Not the cheapest, which was "OLI" in a can from Mexico at the time. Busch was horrible, but F#&cked us up. I hate to think what the "Light" tastes like.. Another bad light beer, which was popular is "Natural Light" = Eeewww!

Can't fairly compare a light bodied beer to a heavier bodied beer. The heavier bodied beer will almost always win (even though Guinness isn't that heavy), at least for my palate. But when making a choice for one beer to drink, it's situational and a lighter bodied beer will frequently be the choice. Let's be happy Guinness and Weizen Biers are both available to chose from! I chose to open a bottle of Franziskaner to enjoy while watching this at 10 AM. If it was 10 PM I probably would have gone with the Guinness (or both to play along). By the way, you guys may be comparing the Guinness to two different Weiss beers. The can states Weissbeer (probably filtered) and the bottle states hefe-Weissbier (unfiltered). They probably don't taste the same.

I have to go with the Paulaner but that's because I'm more partial to hefeweiss and the wheat flavor. I understand the creaminess of the nitro bubbles, but what I like is my beer to have a lot of carbonation throughout, I think this is from my background of liking mineral water. The presentation of the Paulaner does it for me since you can see through the liquid, and the excess carbonation that whirls up constantly, you have to use a dedicated tall hefeweiss glass. I would consider the Hacker Pschorr as the little brother of the Paulaner, which is very similar but lighter and not as strong with the hops.

Just came back from the largest liquor store in my whole city. 5 aisles, 6 giant fridges full of HUNDREDS of beer brands. Found ONE decent british ale - Samuel Smith Nut Brown, and ONE american brown ale from a local microbrew. While both tasted great, I was so disappointed by the sheer lack of diversity of beers in general, despite living in a city with one of the HIGHEST number of small breweries in the whole country. No wonder beer sales are dropping in the US....
@BeerBrackets6 күн бұрын
Alessandro has complained about the lack of British imports in the U.S. too. Im a little luckier here in Canada, but could still use a massive improvement there.
@lars28946 күн бұрын
@@BeerBrackets Don't think I've ever even seen a Canadian brand, and i live on the border state. Another big problem is that... many of the local microbreweries are just... well, bad. Out of 100 or so breweries we have just 1 distributing a brown ale onto shelves, since bars and diners don't really count. My gripe is that one is tastes palpanly worse than Sam Smith, while prices are the same. Like I want to support my small local businesses don't get me wrong, but not like this.
@BeerBrackets5 күн бұрын
@@lars2894 It's so true, I've tried a few locally brewed brown ales or english bitters and I haven't found one from a microbrewery here yet that has matched the quality of a british import. Such an underappreciated category of beer.

I think “technically” the bud light is superior in terms of achievement. I’m German and having a near odorless, tasteless, ice cold lager is revered. However, I prefer Busch light because there’s a slight hoppiness and sweetest from the corn, that my palate can actually detect.

Like a pound for pound #1 boxing champion, this "heaven in a bottle" is a style for style #1 beer champion in my book. If you ever take a trip to Germany, I highly recommend you visit this brewery and their amazing beer garden. Their offerings on site are on a completely different level compared to these bottled/canned imports, and you'll understand my style for style comment for the Vitus. Even the bottled import is #1 in my book. Well done gents, even though I believe it's a PERFECT beer!!

Weizenbock is the next level of hefeweiss. The Vitus 6 packs is a good deal if you can find it, looks like you have, I can only find the pint bottle now. Schneider Weiss Tap 5 Hopfenweisse is my favorite weizenbock and probably rank #1 in term of flavor. It is imo a complex beer and require multiple tastes to fully appreciate. Herbal perfection is how I would describe it. Hope you two can taste it together one day.
@BeerBrackets14 күн бұрын
You're right Erika! I got a 6 pack. I was down on a trip with my family in Vermont and made a point of stopping in a few liquor stores to see what I could find. Like I mentioned in the video, I was hoping to find the Guinness Foreign Extra for a review but then saw one sole 6-pack of the Vitus on a shelf. It was a really good deal price-wise too. I find the Weihenstephaner beers tend to be pretty well priced, which is nice. As opposed to a lot of the Belgian imports. I haven't seen the Schneider Weiss Tap 5 on shelves here yet, but I'll keep an eye open for it now that you've recommended it!

Happy to finally see you guys getting to the Vitus! It's always been one of my favorites and I agree with Alessandro that it's the best weizenbock you can find. I like how Alessandro tends to get more excited about beers and give higher scores, and Joe is like the one reeling it in and being the harsher critic. It creates a good dynamic where you can average out a fair accurate score I think. Fantastic episode guys! Cheers

I know, right? It's been such a long time coming. We would have gotten to it a lot sooner, but I had to wait until I was on a trip down to the States and happened to find it while beer exploring. hahah! You know, I don't think Ale would disagree with that assessment. We both tend to get excited about beers we're enjoying in the moment, that's for sure. I probably am I little bit more critical... there are more Ale perfect beers than Joe perfect beers 🤣
