What I love about Animated Megs most is just how manipulative he can be. How he manipulated the Professor, and particularly how he did so with the Constructibots/cons. While the Autobots treated them as outcasts and sent them off because they misbehaved, Megatron allowed them into his secret lair, gave them drinks, and treated them like any other Decepticon. Had they not befriended Bulkhead, they likely would be about as loyal to Megs as Lugnut. Heck, if Lugnut brought that garbage bot back to Megs (and Megs found some way the idiot could be useful), Megs likely would have done the same.

He'll never stop being Optimus Prime to me, but I know Peter Cullen is human. He has to decide what's best for himself like the rest of us. We have no right to demand things from he when he can't give anymore. I just know without a doubt I'll miss him when the time comes because his voice was part of my childhood. It's not easy to lose someone who has practically been with you your whole life, but that just means we got to appreciate the time we have with them. I miss Kevin Conroy, but the fact that we're in an age where the Internet allows us to have access to our childhood shows makes it easier because there's his voice. As Mark Hamil once said, "No one's really gone."

The strange thing is I think they are compensating from his voice changing as he has aged by processing the voice, and it's that processing of the voice that is shifting peoples perceptions. That isn't an evaluation that the 80's or 2000's one is better (the cartoon is limited in its audio quality and we know it) just recognising that the natural tones are being affected by both the choice of how to process his voice, and to a degree the dialogue they are choosing to give him.

My favorite design gotta be Transformers Prime's one (with animated coming close second). He just takes the stereotypical "skinny mad scientist" stereotype and throws it out of the window, by giving him the body of a Brute, but he still has the mind of a real mad genius.
