This might not be a great plane, but I want it anyway. I love the Me 163.

The Me163s primary issue is, in my opinion, that the germans no longer had the budget to develop. If the ME163 was less hastily designed, it might very well have been an amazing aircraft, as proven by its performance in games that don't simulate its issues. Though it has a short burn time, imagine a non-acidic, relatively safe, non-explosive version of the ME163?

Cool thing about the L-4 is that it was so light it could take off from lines suspended in the air by a hook. When it accelerated to flying speed the pilot would pull a lanyard releasing the aircraft at the end of the line. interestingly enough it could also catch a sling by the hook in the roof and land on said suspended line, meaning it didn’t really need a runway, or ground for that matter. Otherwise, Great video once again.

Yup, a video every War Thunder player can relate with. When it gets to a streak of bad days I quit the game for a month or more to forget my bad behavior and relearn good tactics again.That helps quite well.

I flew a 1943 L-4 Grasshopper today. Out of all the aircraft I'm currently renting, the L-4 is the most fun especially doing landing and take-offs with.

The most fascinating part about Grasshopper, at least if I recall it right, US carriers were able to launch those "sideways" ie perpendicular to the length of the ship, from open lower deck thus having ability to launch scout plane without stopping operations of other craft on main deck.

I was talking to a stranger at a small airfield in the UK and turned out they had flown in on a 1943 L-4 Grasshopper. I was shown around the plane and found some of the details like how he flys from the rear seat interesting. The wings and fuselage are made with canvas that is stretched tight over the airframe, it was nice getting hands on. I didn't know it had canvas wings. I asked if it was okay to film him doing the start-up on the plane too :) Notice how there was no handbrake, I didn't know that either
