I have used No ox, and found it does work, but in VERY small applied amounts. Better still give your fingers a real work out and replace all plastic wheel sets with metal. If you ever look at old plastic wheels they are pitted and in most cases have this off color band coating the wheels which is nothing but dirt. If you want to try something that works extremely well, a drop of very light weight oil on the metal wheels, then run the loco on a rip track holding it in place, then whip off the dirt from the track and repeat until the track is clean. Then place on a paper towel and let it stand for 24hrs. Repeat with rolling stock with metal wheels pushing it along. If you have a layout with a grade more then 2% then these suggestions are not for you as there will always be some residual oil / grease on the rails and wheels.

Thanks for your comments Paul! Much appreciated! Yes I did hear that with the No ox the lesser the better. Thanks for sharing.

I did not know that the OVR was no more... but t he new one sounds exciting! BTW, what are the Code 83 and Code 100 tracks? Have not heard those terms before. A suggestion, consider a modular track build if you are planning to move.
@krazytrainguyАй бұрын
Yes with a move came the need to tear down the OVR. However my next layout will be the Ontario Northland which my grandfather worked on so that will be a fun challenge. The lower the number means the lower the profile of teh and the closer to prototypical size. Code 100 is quite a bit higher than the real thing. Code 83 is getting closer and tends to look more realistic but it's really a personal preference. You can go as low as code 55. Thanks for watching!

Joys of rescuing 5 tots of trains, cox and old life like action structure from the dump. Sold 3 totes worth at the train show recently. Yea it sucks that the Milton line is getting the short end of the stick with GO expansion. Especially given the favorable use case given how the line serves Etobicoke, Mississauga and of course Milton. Already fairly dense and populated areas that will likely see even more growth in the coming years and decades. That being said I think Metrolinx has the right idea for the long term. May as well go for and focus on the otherwise low hanging fruit first of improving the other five lines. Then once those are complete, have the gains from those lines subsidize further more difficult upgrades to lines like Milton. I think I heard Japan did something similar and now they have world class passenger rail, if not the very best.

I know it would be expensive, but I propose CP divert their mainline to go north after Milton GO station, and travel around the outskirts of Brampton. CP would approach their intermodal yard in Vaughan from the west. Essentially this diversion would mimic the path of the proposed 413. After reaching the intermodal yard in Vaughan, CP trains would still go down to the junction and onto the midtown to continue heading east. That would open up the Milton line for GO, but wouldn't give us the midtown corridor. Constructing a bypass for CP trains to go around the entire GTA would be quite the endeavor. Maybe the provincial government could construct a parallel running freight track along side construction of the 413.
@krazytrainguy4 ай бұрын
There was an announcement a couple of days ago by the provincial government it looks like they are going ahead with all day service slated for 2031. I'm interested to see what the details are in the plan on how that will become a reality.

A great video.. I think you might have done better scoring the timber before painting it.. then it would get into the crevices better and look like pieces instead of a block. I'm just curious as to why you and others never bother with load restraints on the loads you make?? are they just to sit there and hope they don't come off or does mother nature provide the chains, straps and ropes for that .. hahaaaa....

I can explain a bit. It seems that CP is a less willing partner than CN is for Metrolinx increasing rail service. While CN will allow Metrolinx to expand track to West Harbour for 2 trains per hour on that route and something similar for services west of Bramalea on the CN York Sub, CP does not seem to be open to more service. Part of this could be that GO Trains are typically assigned the northernmost track on the CP Galt Sub (Milton Line), which requires they cross all tracks from the curve off Metrolinx's Weston Sub (Kitchener Line) in Toronto near CP's Lambton Yard (north of the Bloor GO Station). Remember that Milton Line only got any GO service in the first place after they were offered a deal where City of Mississauga agreed to drop their lawsuit after a major CP derailment and explosion in Mississauga if they allowed GO service. Even on the Bowmanville Line, GO is building all new track PARALLEL to the CP tracks rather than expanding and sharing the existing CP infrastructure. Likewise, no expansion is planned for GO service to Hamilton GO Centre.
@krazytrainguy6 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment Jack. I hear you on the agreement as a result of the 1979 derailment. The issue with the GO trains having to move from the north to the south mainline before going through the junction isn't a unique issue. The trains on the Kitchener line have to do the same thing after leaving Georgetown so that they can move to the south line at Bramalea. I do find it hard to believe that Canadian Pacific would turn down government funding to add a third mainline which would include expanding or the potential rebuilding of the large bridges over the Credit and Humber Rivers but who knows.
@jacktattersall94576 ай бұрын
@@krazytrainguy It's hard from hard to do. There must be some behind the scenes issues (corporately with CP, politically, or just engineering scope and capacity) holding back all-day service.
