I have used No ox, and found it does work, but in VERY small applied amounts. Better still give your fingers a real work out and replace all plastic wheel sets with metal. If you ever look at old plastic wheels they are pitted and in most cases have this off color band coating the wheels which is nothing but dirt. If you want to try something that works extremely well, a drop of very light weight oil on the metal wheels, then run the loco on a rip track holding it in place, then whip off the dirt from the track and repeat until the track is clean. Then place on a paper towel and let it stand for 24hrs. Repeat with rolling stock with metal wheels pushing it along. If you have a layout with a grade more then 2% then these suggestions are not for you as there will always be some residual oil / grease on the rails and wheels.
