Can i quickly ask why you changed the position of the alternator?
@antoniosbackyardtruckbuild208
@antoniosbackyardtruckbuild208 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I moved it to the top because we’re I off road there are a lot of bog holes full of mud/clay and has cost me a few alternators. So keeping all the electrics at the top helps, plus it’s more accessible to check out/swap out if you have an issue.

I'd like to add the lower mounting for the 4D56 engine is made of aluminum and the hole is prone to loosening up over time and throwing off the alternator's alignment

Why have you used two alternators. Why not lengthen the pipes that fit to the original one.

Hi LUDO When I have completed the top bracket all the lines will be removed from the bottom alternator and only the top one will remain. I just used a spare I had to build the bracket 👍

Would a falty water pump prevent that engine started
@bearnecessiteespolio5359
@bearnecessiteespolio5359 9 ай бұрын
No it would just make your water NOT circulate through the radiator, so the water would get far too hot and would allow/cause the engine to overheat

Hi Antonio. Robbo here. just wondered if you could help., I have not yet attempted putting on the timing belt or balance belt. Having marked all the timing points the only one not lining up is the crankshaft it stops just about two teeth from the mark. tried rotating it and just the same only this time couldn't move it anymore, pressure seems to hold it. any suggestions would help greatly, tried the net just got confused. Thanks
@antoniosbackyardtruckbuild208

Hi Robbo, As always this is my opinion and cannot take responsibility for any outcome, worse case would be valve(S) bent/broken stuck stopping the piston moving up and aligning “ top dead centre) from the top inspect the first valves on the front cylinder to see if there is any slight damage ( valves slightly bent etc.) At this point of the crank will not move I would remove the head and check everything is ok there. Unfortunately we are not always lucky and damage happens when belt snaps. As said check valves can move all the way up and are not stuck etc and take it from there. Don’t give up I know you will sort it 👍

Alright Antonio, Robbo here , I'm still on the shogun trying to get the crank bolt off, I can't do the trick you used as I took all the belts off, the cam belt was snapped anyway.just trying to wedge the crank to get the bolt off its real solid and I don't want to buy the release tool, for one they are dear and from what I've heard the ones on sale at Amazon are inferior and bend...think I will try and strap it up, if you got any suggestions let me know Antonio...one again Thanks Robbo.....

Hi Robbo Sorry for the late response. I hope you managed to get the crank bolt loose, these are nearly always “stubborn”. I guess you have the truck in gear and back wheels chocked, then it’s common to use the long breaker bar with a longer piece of tube over it to give you more leverage. If you have an impact gun or can borrow one. There are a lot of videos on KZfaq that can give you all the visual info you need, but just expect to break your knuckles on this one and don’t give up. Let me know how you get on👍

Hi Antonio.Thanks for the reply. well got the crank bolt off by flicking the engine and came off pretty easy really, thanks. got round to putting the new tensioners on and low and behold I have mislaid a couple of bolts and a nut, trying to get some on the net, not easy. well decided to look under the rocker cover and was surprised to find no damage whatsoever, I had bought a rocker bar setup just in case, so the old saying goes whats not broke don't fix, I dont think I will be putting that on, keep as a spare I think. so now going to set up the timing marks and check rockers with a feeler gauge,may even put the new water pump in as well as the thermostat, oh by the way the bottom belt cover was really damaged and I need to get hold of one, they are pretty expensive too, have to try a scrapyard for one. well thats my slow progress so far, let you know how things go....Robbo.

Antonio, just one question, when you fitted the new rocker arm and rockers did you put a bit of oil on the shaft,I have bought a new one already made up and it looks very dry...
@antoniosbackyardtruckbuild208

Yes I did, lube it up before you put it in place or it will be running dry for the first minute when you start the engine up. You don’t want it rotating dry 👍

Hi, thank you for the positive comments. I haven’t posted for a while due to COVID issues, but hope to get back on my builds soon. I had a complete spare shaft and rockers so didn’t have to change individual ones, but there not that difficult/strait forward to swap over on the shaft if need be. Check if your engine is the same as the 4D56t comes only in 2.5lt diesel The 2.8lt diesel is the 4M40 engine and is chain driven. Different counties were exported different engines and specs. 👍

Hi there, thank you for your comment. My idea was to use the original alternator because:wanted to keep on a low budget and use what I have, and if your stuck out there direct replacement/spare is easier to find. But yes you could upgrade and use another alternator, more output and go with dual batteries too 👍

Hi my belt just snapped on my L200 just ordered a belt kit and 2 broken inlet rocker arms that were damaged. I know I have to line up the marks on the cam and crank etc but do you have to rotate the cam or crank a certain amount of times to get the pistons in a certain order before I put the belt on? Or if all the marks line up up then am I safe either way? Thanks

Three trucks, three different builds. My aim is to try keep my builds and ideas on a budget, to have my 3 trucks to repair/ modify cheaply but safely to then go out and enjoy off roading and touring. Will be adapting interiors to the builds too with pullout beds, cooking areas, awnings etc.... SUBSCRIBE and follow me in my venture of mechanics and modifications to then go out and test it all 😊 Please comments on your thoughts and requests
