Peak millennial!😂 I’m trying to tick that last box and drive a WRX before I hit 40 this year

btw I hate the brakes so much I opted to start my journey on doing a custom brembo conversion. literally just bought a set of front Cadillac ATS calipers. They were 349 brand new on the Bay! thought I’d snag them since prices have been going up a lot lately and also getting scarce on new ones

Omg .. you sound exactly like me lol like exactly. Hopefully upgrading sound is easy and can buy a nice system without having to change much. Im also no longer a tuner. Used to order engines from Japan and take cars apart. Suspension is very tight like you said I agree.

Good advise on how to buy a car without getting taken to badly. Keeping your excitement level as low as possible is important. I always start off with saying I'm also considering their biggest competitors model and say I can go either way and will buy whatever is the best deal. The fact is though while I might buy a new car/truck maybe every decade or so car sales people are selling cars every day so I'm always at a big disadvantage and no matter what they say- the dealer is making money in several different ways I'm not even aware of.

I have owned Five new WRX since 2005, i now have a new Ice silver 2023 WRX SPT Sport this is the best WRX i have owned, it still has that firm ride, with much less road noise, Subaru have still maintained that WRX road holding and safety for our vast Australian conditions. Enjoy your new Rex 👍 Au

I’m about to try and get one in a couple weeks that is in transit (ceramic white). I’m also a veteran (Army) and spent 3 years in Okinawa and fell in love with Subaru. I had a 2000 Legacy B4 while I was there. My first dream car out of basic was the 2002 WRX. I currently live in El Paso, Texas so not too far from Arizona. Can you share a little about how you negotiated your price down so much?

I'm in your age range and I feel you. I ALWAYS wanted a WRX STi back in the '00s and could not afford one at the time. I now got a MY23 Forester for the family which I really like and enjoy. However, as soon as I can, I will trade it for this new WRX Premium in this color and a manual of course. Great video/comments.

I’m in pretty much the same boat. I have a 23 premium and I don’t know that I want to do too much. The brakes are a problem for sure, but other than that. Maybe lowering springs, catback touring exhaust, wheels and maybe a high flow air filter to get more turbo noise. And I’d be good. The car seems to handle great and has plenty of power for daily commutes.

To me the ride is jittery on my '22 Premium but somehow the faster you go the better it rides- at least to me. I'm glad I don't daily drive this car. Different tires might help. Its a really fun toy but when I've had enough of it I can park it and drive something else. I gather from reading posts by people that have had several WRXs they think the newer VB rides too soft. IDK- everybody has a different perspective.

Just order my RCE yellows - gonna start with different springs rates and see how it feels. I agreed with you 100% - rust is from when they ship them from Japan in the containers and the moisture. Great videos out there on it -

Finally picked mine up a month ago. 2023 Premium, sticker at $36k with options and got it for ~ $32k. Love it. I don't mind the ride, but it does have bouncy undulations sometimes that are uncomfortable.

The dealer always wins. They undervalue your trade-in and dance around about any discounts. But the real profit is in the service of your new toy.

great review. regarding the stock brakes... idk how to properly articulate the problem. they're not terrible, not great, but not good either. any speed above 100 you're going to need some significant distance to slow down. also, the center display is extremely sensitive to liquids. I was cleaning the interior and accidentally sprayed a bit on the display and the entire thing blacked out for two days.
@Kopernicus673 ай бұрын
People overthink the WRX, or expect too much, given its reputation and place in automotive culture. For $30k you get AWD, 5-sec 0-60s, cornering at 0.95, brakes (for the first few stops) like nothing else in its class. Detractors compare the car to vehicles that are $10k more easily. Remember Subaru does not make luxury cars like Acura/Honda or Toyota/Lexus. You can have ANY model car in the Subaru line-up for LESS than $35k to start, and no other manufacturer with Subaru reliability (Consumer Reports perennial top 5) can say that. If you dont mod it, the WRX is incredibly reliable. I have a '23 Premium 6MT. I have modded it out, as the car is for fun, I only drive 10k a year to work. I don't launch it, it isn't a drag racing car. I've had ZERO issues in the first year/10k miles. My only beef (and my dealer hates this as well) is they ship cars with summer performance tires. When my dealer gets deliveries in winter, the cars have NO TRACTION. Subaru needs to give buyers a choice, or ship to winter areas with summer all-season performance (or at least 3-season). I run Nokian Nordman studdeds in the winter, and the car is a tank.

I got a 2023 base model for 29,000. I don't plan on any mods and I like the car as it's a year-round driver in the Pacific northwest. I gott spoiled with my 08 Porsche Boxster S. That car was simply amazing in every way. Subaru is fun up to about a 100 mph. and then it just gets too bumpy and squirrely. The Porsche felt solid and in control even at 150 mph. But a sub $30k car compared to a $70k car. Porsche. There is no substitute.
@chuckcribbs33984 ай бұрын
The TR fixed all the issues, but at $42k, it’s a bit steep.

Modify it to your liking... Everyone's car will be slightly different based on their tastes and their purpose... But if you want to get philosophical, the car will be an expression of you and who you really are

Agree on a lot of points you made. I'm trading in my 2002 for a new 2023, so I've driven the 2002 for 21.5 years and about 278,000 miles, and only test-driven the 2023 for about 10 miles. But in that short bit, I predict that I'll think the 2002 was better in it's time. It was lighter and more responsive and like you said, more raw. The new one feels heavy, while the 2002 also has a good grip but not in such a heavy way. It also seems like the turbo was more of a focal point in 2002 than it is now, and when it would really begin to pull around 3000 RPM the car would accelerate like nothing else I've driven. The 2023 seems more constant and won't snap head back in the seat the same way. But after 21 years, it's really not a fair comparison and the new one has an extra gear lots of technology, more safety, more space, etc. I'm 49 and after such a good experience with the 2002, I still wanted to have something I enjoyed so the 2023 is part practical and part toy. I could do without the giant screen on the center of the dash, and would be very happy with knobs, dials, and non-digital stuff, but that's probably more of my personality quirk. When I see that stuff, I just get worried it won't last. Time will tell if I keep this one as long, but I wanted to continue the traditions, same color too.
