Great vid...rewind November 1982 as an (almost) 17 year old i paid £799 for a brand new one, kept it 2 years then bought a car. Fast forward 20 years ...in 2002 at 36 years old i bought another brand new one for £2500, passed my test on it and kept it 4 years. On both bikes i simply took restrictors out of the exhaust for much better performance. Now in 2024 at age 58 I'm about to buy a Honda CRF 300L. You're never too old.

I bought my silver VFR800fi in 2000 and have covered a good 140.000 km to date. Right at the beginning a typical VFR problem occurred. The regulator of the alternator and the alternator broke! Since then, only wearing parts and oil have been changed! The VFR is indestructible and doesn't even have any measurable oil consumption. In short, I love my VFR as much as I did on the first day! Best regards from Germany

I've just finished sorting a VFR 800 like this to my taste,new suspension, cosmetics exhaust etc etc, and without doubt it feels more like a race bike than any sports bike I've ever owned. The engine is simply beautiful....and more than enough power in the tank for most on the road,and track

I have zero knowledge of bikes at the moment, but am very enthusiastic about them after meeting my girlfriend's dad, who has always been obsessed with building, riding and tracking his own ensemble of motorcycles. He recently picked up one of these for £150 that had been totalled and left to rot in a shed for a quarter of a century; it was crashed the year after it was manufactured, in '99. It's an import (we're not sure where from) with 8096km on the clock - it is almost perfect mechanically, but a majority of the 'panels' or whatever you'd like to call them and some parts of the frame are very badly scuffed or totally unsalvageable. I'm helping him pick it apart in order to understand how they work, but there's a good chance that this VFR800fi will be the first 'real' bike that I own once I have passed my tests and gotten some proper practice in on his '83 GSXR 400. Videos like this are helping me truly understand and appreciate the heritage of this bike, and I'm so lucky that my first experiences will be on some of the most iconic motorbikes ever produced.

The new wheel was 11.5kg and the old one 12.4.. SO you were losing a kg of weight.. SO WHY IS IT SLOWER? less weight more speed ;o)
@DaveLister-rn4xnАй бұрын
How can I put this.. If you want to ride around all day on very high revs, hanging on the a rocket for dear life.. A VFR isn't the one. I've had 1 litre bikes and they are brilliant and mad and pull your arms off! But as a practical bike that is good for long distance and can still get to 160mph (mine has recently passed this! with a few mods) this is a very comfortable bike that actually handles really well.. I uses less petrol than my old CBR600 fuel injected bike! Th reliability and growl of that V4 is fun.. I understand why people say its boring! gear driven cams sound divine! I hate the weight of the thing! if they lightened at and added some extra horses.. it would have been much better.. I enjoy riding it, especially long distance! An inline 4 revs higher and sounds great, but once a few speed tickets have been and gone.. You look for fun and transport in a more practical way.. Start on racing bikes and evolve to touring mode lol

I´m driving a 1997 4BL Model and it runs with stock engine and exhaust same speed... i would recommended everybody. It´s easy to upgrade to 25Hp or more with exhaust made from gianelli and membran made of carbon. Some other jets in the carborator and this maschine is a beast compare to other 125ccm models.

Do you know if this would work with one of those 80cc 2stroke kits for a normal bicycle?
@RHauto2 ай бұрын
No sorry it won't. It's hard to limit a 2 stroke engine because it needs high rpms to produce power. You could limit it in other ways but it might make it run really bad
@clipsnalletc2 ай бұрын
@@RHauto ah fair enough. I was trying to see if I could make a non-license/taxed motorised bike by abiding by the 25km cap, but do you know if so long as you don’t go over the 25kmh is it grand? Or does it have to be unable to do over 25 to be able to ride without a license. No worries if you havnae a clue anyways
@RHauto2 ай бұрын
@@clipsnalletc not sure which country you are in, but in Ireland the 25kph rule applies only to electric bikes, so a 2 stroke bicycle would need to be licensed and taxed to be legal here even if it only does 20kph max speed. The 2strokes are very loud too and they attract alot of attention, so I think electric motor is a better option

Hi Mate, yes VFR800 5 gen owner. Mirrors no problem mine are perfect, I'm 5ft11. Steel headers rusting yes so what, you can't see them. what does rust and is a pain in the arse are all the little fairing screws. Now big rant, if you want to work on this bike yourself be ready to battle with hundreds of fasteners and bits of plastic. A wild weasel can not get in there get at it quick do not imagine an impatient Englishman can do better. I can strip a bike to the last bolt and reassemble, I used to shim valves on Desmo Ducatis to Zero thou BUT adjust valves on a VFR, Go home masochist, I put it in the local Honda garage and let them suffer.Rectifier, it failed after 120 or 15 years can't remember. Now i keep the bike VERY standard it was so good out of the factory that you don't mess with it. I replaced rectifier but was annoyed. ,It overheats because it is hidden perfectly under all that plastic. Let's solve that. On a desktop or gamer PC, you have a fan over the CPU to keep it cool. It is 12v, a bit of glue and it fits on the VFR Rectifier, connect the two wires (Solder please) to the rear light cable. Your rectifier will be cool and not fail. VFRs are cool. As for the breaks, they are seriously good, you don't realize how good, there is a natural ABS built into the design very hard to lock up except viscous on gravel. On Kawasaki or Suzuki Sportbike with two fingers I can tie the bike up in knots, SO exciting, probably not the fastest way round the bend, yes I'm not Hailwood or Agostini.
