When I was about 13, I took my scout patrol on an overnight camp to a bush hut. The hut had an old cast iron pot belly fire but the firewood was mostly very wet so we couldn't keep the fire going. There was some diesel for the power generator so I put a tiny hole in the bottom of a spaghetti can, filled the can with diesel, and suspended it quite high over the fire. The fuel splashed down onto the cast iron and burned well enough for the pot belly to glow red hot. I don't know how I knew how to do that and I don't know how I've reached age 65.

Great video, thank you. I have a question, have you tried 90% WMO and 10% gasoline? If that works, then maybe the same thing would work with the waste vegetable oil.

If you put an inline stop solenoid on the fuel line after the drpper setup tapped into the fan motor voltage feed, then that would stop the potential fuel leaking problem if the flame out protocol kicks in 😎

Like @LowAmbitions I too am installing an "8kw" in my attic or actually void area, where the ducted aircon is and letting the fan sucking the hot air and blow it around the house. This is in Brisbane Australia, and I think it's possible to keep some rooms warm like 22 degrees, mind you the outdoor temp in winter goes to only -1 or -2 and day temp between 18 and 25. The area will be around 114 m2. I'm planning on using a bigger diameter aluminium pipe 2.5 meter long encapsulated in a bigger shorter open ended pipe, enclosed near the heater, but with a flex pipe attached, joining into the aircon ducting. I've done some preliminary testing without using the exhaust heat, and I got 22 deg with outside around 8 deg. What I don't know is I need to have the diesel tank outside on the ground, which mean the pump needs to pump close to 3 meter vertical and 2.5 meter horizontal. Any comment is very welcome......

Nice Video! You could have used PWM and used a more high tech dosing system, but then you would have just built another electronic controlled heater.. I love your low tech control system, and your explanation of it, (I am an electronics geek, so I got it anyway)... You have proven how basic these things actually are. You have also demystified these heaters totally for me, in a few videos... I wonder no more. Thanks Heaps!!!

the fact that you have it cyling at 70 per minute on the highest heat setting (according to your controller) is a tribute to how over fuelled these things are , i guess these big companies are all linked anyhow so why wouldn't they . , there is another guy on the tube setting his at 1 hz on the lowest setting , assuming thats one pump (drip per second) , it seems it is possible to go lower on the number 1 control setting . (Would it be possible to just pinch the fuel line a little upstream of the pump?) or would it destroy it , great work , very interesting thanks .

Nice to see you're doing ok. Glad you're keeping busy. My car needs a new water pump, unfortunately it's a PT cruiser, and the engine has to be dropped and the timing belt removed. I can't do it, and no one else wants to touch it for any mount of money, so my main transportation is an electric scooter. I have an electric lawnmower. My neighbor says he'd get one but he's worried about running over the cord, but I've had it for 12 years and never done that. So every Saturday morning I have to listen to that lovely racket. I shut mine off in between rows, so when I mow, it's just a few "vroom's".

Maybe it's enough work space, if you just remove the drive side's motor mount and maybe the middle mount, too - and instead of lowering the engine try to hoist it to various heights, depending on the bolt or part, you're working on. Maybe try a combination of lowering and raising Very often that gives you just enough clearance to work with - maybe with a little wedging force added - it would be the way, european cars usually got designed in this time period- and the PT-Cruiser has an European Diesel in it at least. Haven't worked on that body yet, though. I'd check that out, may work in your garage and you'd save a ton of money and maybe get the better work too.

Did you leave any parts at the parts store for anyone else 🤣? They're probably getting a sales bonus this week. The first part I ever changed on any vehicle was a water pump on my '78 Monte Carlo back in the 1980's. I've been benefitting from these videos over the past two years. I want to buy a little lathe just for fun. I haven't used a metal lathe since I was in high school in 1957. Doesn't matter. I'll have fun. I have definitely decided to not buy price. I'll allow six thousand or so for the lathe and accessaries / addons. Maybe more. The size? At least 10 x 20 inches. I don't want a lathe that has ball bearings on the spindle. Tapered rollers is much better. Will I select a gear head? Maybe. Haven't decided. I have an idea that I'll do lots of threading. Changing gears all the time doesn't thrill me much. I don't think I need a digital display. Speed adjusting seems more intuitive to me. I like Proxxon but they are too small. Otherwise their quality seems above average. I like Sherline quite a lot. Not sure though. On their website they don't provide prices but instead offer financing. They want to sell you on a product and later tell you what the damage will be. This usually means they are pricey. I don't mind spending but I don't want to have to search for the rest of my life to find out what something costs. Why do they hide it? Maybe because of the current inflation.... it changes a lot? So far I am leaning towards the one from Taiwan. Precision Matthews 1228 model with dro and a box of goodies to make it even more fun. This one runs on 110vac single phase with a variable speed DC motor. Seems just right. Any larger lathe from PM needs 240vac and maybe three phase too. I don't need all that sophistication in my garage. Watching all these videos is almost as much fun as having the machine all set up and ready for ???? I have no idea what I'll use it for. I guess I will find out later. May as well get a little mill while I'm at it. Why not? Fun fun fun... The reader can tell I'm the fussy type. It's true. Why not? After all this talk I'll probably end up buying a Harbor Freight 14 inch. ha ha... Well, I can have fun on that model too.
@loweredexpectations4927
@loweredexpectations4927 Ай бұрын
Precision matthews has some great stuff and they are great to deal with. I bought a milling machine from them, and have heard nothing but good things. LOL... we all want a big fancy lathe ... but the fact that we don't all have one means we come up with reasons not to go through with it. It is a little harder to justify if you don't' even know what you will be doing with it, but, if you have one, you will find things to do with it.
