I enjoyed this video. It looked so easy I decided to try it myself. I worked for hours and finally installed a new pawl and rack. Sad to say it didn’t fix the problem. If you rock back and raise the foot rest it slips back. What now?
@reclinerrepairguy41558 сағат бұрын
@TomCole-w5c - Something to check: make sure the Pawl is properly engaging with the Pawl Rack when the Ratcheting Recline is activated. To see what's happening, remove the chair back & turn the bottom of the chair upside down on the floor. Now you can operate the footrest & ratcheting recline by hand & see what's going on. If you're unable diagnose the issue, contact an experienced repair tech to help you.

Hello, I just bought a Rowan wall recliner from Lay-z-Boy. The base seems to have a little play in it and the chair seems wobbly, meaning the base moves back and forth with slight pressure. It does not stay planted like my old recliner. I feel it may be missing a spring. Does this sound normal to you?

Until, say, la z boy can offer a recliner with seat foam option that is high resiliency foam that is at least a 2.5lb density with at least a 35 ILD - i can't buy one, as I'll be sitting in the thing all day every day. Comparable back padding to match as well. I may have to shop for commercial grade furniture in order to fit my need; sad. Brother, with your experience with la z boy failures, you could literally redesign their recliner using better, longer lasting components and then sell them online - I'd would buy that recliner from you!

In fact, if you could acquire a la z boy that fits me and if you would replace the seat and back materials...never mind the mechanical parts - I would buy that new and improved chair from you. Doable?

It looks like when I go buy a brand new recliner, i'll have to immediately take it to an upholsterer and have the back and the seat foam replaced with better material...that is tragic. Maybe I should be shopping for commercial grade furniture :/ I've watched foam explanation videos and your way of speaking was by far more understandable! Thanks mate!

Hey what's up recliner repair guy? I hope you're having a great day and I love your videos. I just recently did some KZfaq searches and I found you. My problem is probably rather common, but I don't see a video about it yet. The back of my La-Z-Boy slides up and off. One day, my roommate slammed down and the left side of the back leaned back. Upon inspection I discovered that the base, where the back slides down into the base, had bent so it can't be held by the female slot. I bent it back to match the right side, and applied JB weld so it would accept the back, or the male side, of grip it. I don't know the parts or the terminology. What I want to know is, is this a temporary fix, a permanent fix, or a useless fix. If you have an email, I can send you a before and after and perhaps you can better decide whether this may work. Perhaps a regular weld would be more effective. I don't want to give up on this 2008 La-Z-Boy recliner. It has been wonderful. Thanks!
@reclinerrepairguy4155Күн бұрын
@GrCent - The metal "posts" that the recliner back brackets slide onto are called Seat Swings. If they are damaged or otherwise not working well, you can simply replace them. See this video ------> kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oOB-ZNtmz8CRl3U.html However, also check where the Seat Swings fit into a hole on the side of the arm frames for damage. If the fit is poor or not good, the swings may not work properly. In that case, a frame repair may also be necessary.

HI! Just found out that lazyboys stock seat foam is a 1.8lb density. There was no mention of the compression rating. My biggest fear is in spending $$$ on a recliner - only to have to replace the seat when it pancakes on me in 2 years. I also heard you can opt for tempur pedic foam but idk about that material; it could be that memory foam you mistakenly received.
@reclinerrepairguy4155Күн бұрын
@KingdomUploader - 1.8 is the most common density in furniture foam & it's only fair quality. See my 2-part Furniture Foam Basics video series to learn more -----> kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lbSnesV0urqraI0.html Yes, memory foam is now apparently La-z-boys only version of a higher density seat foam product. Unfortunately, memory foam in furniture is typically a love it or hate it product as far as consumers are concerned.

@KingdomUploader4 күн бұрын
Even if you sacrificed the stock contoured seat foam and went with a better but square foam seat - couldn't you at least bevel cut the front edge - shouldn't that help compensate for that extra height? Just curious. I haven't even bought my new recliner yet - i'm just looking down the inevitable road :)
@reclinerrepairguy41553 күн бұрын
@KingdomUploader - It depends how deep the bevel cut is. If you just take the corner off, that is typically done to "round" the nose of the cushion & will not reduce the size (height) of the foam there. However, if the bevel cut is too deep (wide), the nose of the seat cover will be baggy at that location. And of course, the angle of that bevel is important as well.
@KingdomUploader3 күн бұрын
@@reclinerrepairguy4155 Good answer. Thanks for taking the time. Until you said, i'd never heard of specially contoured seat cushions in a recliner. So you always go with the lazyboy brand? Surely those are not made as well these days, right?
@reclinerrepairguy41554 күн бұрын
@KingdomUploader - I have more experience with repairing La-z-boys. That's why I've made so many videos covering that brand. Historically La-z-boys have also been more serviceable/repairable than most of its competitors in the mass-produced furniture market. (But unfortunately that has been changing in recent years.) As far as quality is concerned, I don't recommend purchasing any of the mass-produced brands -- Catnapper, Flexsteel, Ashley, La-z-boy etc. Sub-par quality can be found throughout these brands in important areas such as: frame construction, padding density (quality), etc. However, better-quality furniture is not within most people's budgets. That's where my repair videos come in, to help consumers extend the life of their mass-produced furniture when possible.

Just received my new Lazy Boy and its pitch is way off from the chair I tested in the store 😢. Lazy Boy will not help 🤬. Can you please post a video that shows how to stop the rocking action completely?
@reclinerrepairguy41555 күн бұрын
@DonnaVanschijndel - Blocking the rocking action will not change the pitch of the chair. If you tried the same model/style chair at the store & your chair is not similar, that issue should be covered by warranty. You can take this matter to the manufacturer, if the dealer/seller will not help you. (It's the manufacturer who provides the warranty, the seller is the service agent.) 2 possible solutions in situations like this are: #1) The dealer can correct the pitch issue or, #2) the dealer can swap out your chair for the test chair you liked -- provided that chair has an acceptable cover type & color, or course.

I don't think these new recliners are built as well and I only have enough years left in me to buy one more chair.... so it's gotta last me my last 20 years! Lol. @richardsdigitalmarketingll9390 - Are you referring to the thin wire that allows the ratcheting recline to engage when you recline the chair? If so, check with the manufacturer to see if they still have the wire in-stock. Or, take a piece of the old wire, go to your local hardware or home improvement store to buy some that is the same gauge (thickness). Then bend the new wire to match the shape of the original to replace it. Sorry I don't remember the name of this part. It may be something like "Release Wire." Take a photo and/or describe how the wire is attached to the Drive Rod & the Pawl, when speaking with a La-z-boy rep.

do you have any videos of the extendable footrests that came on some models where you could push out a few inches on the footrest in the highest position and it would move further out.
@reclinerrepairguy415519 күн бұрын
@paulstevens3177 - No videos on that, sorry. Those extendable footrests have a small mechanism attached to each leg extender (scissor). The most common problem with them is the mounting screws that hold them in place on the footrest come loose. When that happens, the extenders can become hard to operate or stop locking out in the fully extended position. The fix is to remove the spring, tighten all the mounting screws & reattach the spring.
