Based on your dislikes of the blood gift I think you’ll like Where Peace Is Lost by Valerie Valdes.

Micky Chambers is on my tbr! It sounded cute when I saw it at the library. For the blood gift, I heard the author signed for a duology but hoped for a trilogy so had to cram everything in when the publisher didn’t agree to a trilogy. I didn’t like how the romantic scenes in the blood trials. It was unnecessary to me so I didn’t pick up the second book.

Honestly this definitely feels like Scandal fanfiction. Some of the gripes you have about the male Mc were the same ones I had for Fitz and Jake. Olivia was a bad*ss about her work but kinda dumb in love. Tho I don’t remember Fitz saying anything THAT out of pocket. I’m sure the bad writing style didn’t help.
