Ugh, yes, I completely agree about shitty family members in romance novels. Like, if I wanted the trauma and emotional abuse, I'd read a contemporary/lit/women's fic... I think I could get through 'Only for the Week' because her terrible sister and mom didn't affect her career, etc., and the love interest was SO vocal against them, but I could not handle the terrible parents in Abby Jimenez's 'Part of Your World.'

First, I find these Pet Peeves in books video intriguing. I appreciate hearing about others perspectives. Now this might sound unusual, but a Pet Peeve in Romance that I do not enjoy is say the Female MC has a Male Friend. Male friend starts to date a Woman, and the Woman is mean or Condescending towards the Female MC. Sometimes the Female MC has feelings for the Male Friend, other times, the feelings are only Platonic. I have seen this in both YA and Adult books. I apologize for the lack of structure, I just wanted to get it off my chest. I am not sure what to call this Pet Peeve.

Okay but the best friend’s brother is a trope i LOVE, but i hate that the brother is almost always “you’re trash, you’ll never be good enough” okay??? Then why are you still friends??? Shouldn’t you be happy your best friend and sibling are getting together?? 😭😭
