I stopped in Squatch last summer to get some bike route ideas and James simply asked if we wanted to ride with him the next day. He took us on this route and then some for our first DuPont experience. Such hospitality! I'm glad I have this video and a Squatch shirt I bought to remember that day!

Replacing the handlebar with a 740mm or wider will do wonders for that 90s mtb. I did and I have so much more control.

I know this is 2 years old, but I’d love to see it retro-modded. Nothing crazy, but a mid 2000’s air fork, 1x clutched drivetrain, shorter stem and 780 riser bars, external dropper post, etc.

About to buy a new bike. Curious anyone rode the Exie and a specialized epic evo? Can't decide between the two. Thoughts?
@DilbertMuc Жыл бұрын
You are laughing that the suspension only works when the rider is seated and otherwise it's like a hardtail. So ancient and inefficient. Yet... Specialized has just re-discovered that crap and calls this the best ever invention on their new Diverge STR (Suspend The Rider) for an astronomical price tag!

First I’m a little irritated cause when I was at your shop, I was like “ that’s awesome!” Seeing the Schwinn on the wall. I had one. I loved it. Immediately after saying it was awesome, someone working there commented that “it rode like crap and was a piece of junk” it pissed me off. I got a tshirt to say I had been there and took the rest of my business to sycamore cycle. Glad to see someone at the shop appreciates the old school bikes that paved the way for modern bikes. Upgrades, the fork definitely needs refresh or changed to a white brothers or marzocchi. And a shorter stem and wider handle bars might help. But outside of that it’s perfect. Depending on the model, you could run disc brakes but it only worked with specific calipers or adapters in the back.

Looks like you had already made up your mind on the bike before the first pedal stroke. Yes it isn't a modern bike and isn't going to ride like on. You should service the fork and it will function a lot better. you set yourself up for failure by doing very little to the bike before taking it out the trails. It will never perform like a new bike, but with basic service that you should do to any 30 year old bike before riding it it would have performed better. If you gave it a fair shake I think you would have been impressed at how well a 30 year old design actually holds up.

No I generally don’t care for unboxing, but you kept the box, styrofoam, etc. to a minimum. I wanted to hear more about the rims, hubs, 160 vs 180mm rotor, what made you cut the fork tube down, what pedals you decided on.

Just rode this trail. It was awful. One of the worst trails I've ridden anywhere in country. Unquestionably the worst climb I've experienced. But the AC surface is just nasty the entire way. I just rode Sedona for a month in March and I swear I didn't experience such rough trail there. I was hoping it would be different - but I would definitely NOT recommend either that climb or Avery.

To each there own. I dream about riding this trail (and some of the other trails in the Pisgah area). The road climb is what it is, and Club Gap is very challenging. All of that said, my preference gravitates towards the rougher terrain. I'm curious, have you ridden other trails in Pisgah? Are there others you liked?

I forget how Black Mountain is divided. Is it lower black, middle black, and lower black? I remember the top part not being worth the hike-a-bike, but after you get to the first meeting point where people could get directly on from the road, that section was awesome.

With the exception of one shot that showed settings via the camera screen, there was no mention of aperture/shutter speed/iso settings that might help a beginner start to dial in the other things. I really wanted to know what exposure settings you two used for most of your shots.
@wippenoblem3726 Жыл бұрын
This is just classic exposure triangle. Make shutter fast enough for no blur, eg 1/1000, aperture large enough to get the background blur you want, eg 2.8, and ISO the minimum given the scene, eg 400. A thousand videos on this topic on KZfaq.
@louhablas6040 Жыл бұрын
@@wippenoblem3726 Yeah, I understand the exposure triangle, as I've been shooting for years. My comment was more of an observation that perhaps they should consider people who have no clue what the exposure triangle is and offer some guidance. Make sense????

One of my favorite frames for Single Speed. I had the later models with the tube junction, quite nice and never had any slop or bushing issues, ever. The first one was my second SS ever, a long time ago. It worked flawlessly for that. I've another now, SS (26/2.35 x 27.5/2.6) and when don't forget how to ride it... it's still great. A hardtail with a softail feel in a way. You definitely need to ride differently, think like a hard tail and sit/float yer butt on flowy smoother stuff. Do NOT just sit down and charge downhill over big bumps... it may just catapult you. That's a bit dramatic but you get the picture. Love them, they're so odd and they are certainly fast. Cheers.

Thanks for mentioning how to approach horses. Also for pointing out that new riders are sent to this trail by everyone, so you should expect them here. New riders don't always know what to do when you rush up on them and may not understand what you're calling out. So, relax and just talk with them.
