This is so important! Note the inverse relationship of job and environment. Accounting for example can be perfect for some but attracts almost always toxic management

Two traps. 1. When i need tk start a task, thinking abkut the task, or looking at it if its a mess, will trigger it, and im done, cant do anything. 2. If i stop in the middle of something to take a break, I'm done.

Let me address some things: ADHD meds (stimulants) don't fix or change you 😂 they 'improve' inattention, impulsivity and hyperactivity. So you have more motivation and drive to things you choose to do (dopamine). They also don't stay in your system by the end of the day. I am exactly the same person and still need to leave my house on time, motivate myself to leave and put in strategies. It's just easier if I need to work all day and I'm not frozen in procrastination. Medication is not the only thing that can improve your quality of life. Psychoeducation, therapy (for comorbidities like anxiety and depression, trauma), exercise especially in nature, sleep, mentoring/coaching, school and workplace adjustements and balanced diet are all helpful strategies which many healthcare professionals recommend. Dr Mate claiming that meds are the only thing that will fix you is portraying this as a black and white choice. Dr Mate also claims rewards don't work. I do agree that intrinsic motivation is more important than extrinsic (Ryan and Deci, 2000). However this study on: Meta-Cognitive Therapy for Adult ADHD (Solanto, 2010) shows benefit. Those are adults on medication also. 'In meta-cognitive therapy, cognitive-behavioral principles are employed to 1) provide contingent self-reward (e.g., for completing an aversive task); 2) dismantle complex tasks into manageable parts; and 3) sustain motivation toward distant goals by visualizing long-term rewards.' - as long as the reward is self-given by a child and negotiated with the adult it should abosultely work. Closing remarks: 'Symptoms of ADHD are abnormal responses to abnormal circumstances' - this suggests you can cure it, which isn’t true. It's a genetic neurodevelopmental condition and you're born with it. Taking care of your emotional life and stress is a great advice. And the statement that there's nothing wrong with you, is a posititive message regardless of the beliefs you have about ADHD. Even though Dr Russell Barkley and Dr Gabor Mate disagree and use different evidence, I can see that both are coming from the same place. They want to improve acceptance of ADHD and reduce stigma. I just wish I could see some references from Dr Mate as so far I have not seen the claims supported (trauma correlation does not mean causation, that it's not genetic etc).

A wonderful and compassionate doctor, a true healer. I would also add the nutritional component. A Harvard psychiatrist researching the KETO diet for ADHD and mental health issues. Let's look at a multi therapeutic approach. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aa2GfNGSp6nSj5c.htmlsi=rJOzs8a8NfQjJh_v

I feel like I always speed run the first stages and cram like 6-12 months of a relationship into the first 2-3 months because I’m so enticed by the learning/discovery (mentally, physically, etc) stage…and then hit a wall where I just want them to be a friend and not have to be around them all the time. Which is jarring to them because for those first couple months I want to spend 3+ days a week with them

ADHDers love compliments!!! Their face lights up when they hear compliments they smile and will stand up straighter. That’s what I noticed with my son when others do it. When I do it it’s “okay”
