Another clock repairer had so much work that I was doing some for him. So I sent the link for this to him to show the action of the hammers. Once back in the case it did chime and strike. Rather awkward to set up the chime rods on the test stand.

@@tymz-r-achangin It was just to show a couple of collegues the drop of the pallets, to get a 2nd opinion on the pallet action. I can't really send videos via email. So it is just for 2 people really. It did the trick it is within limits of the pallet action. And I didn't want to talk over the beat of the action (tick tock). That may have drowned out the tick tock sound.

Foregot about the video of this I put on some time ago. Not a very good repairer, especially losing the pendulum bob and rod. I have now done over 500 clock repairs and now do it professionally. every clock I have done works and I never lose the parts. He must have been a complete incompetent amateur.

@@verybigkittens7550 Sadly he must yes. My Mother was very upset. The clock kept stopping and we took it to a local repairer who cleaned it but said it had some worn shafts, after that it worked for some time, One day my Uncle visited and said he would take it to a clock repairer he knew, he had it ages and my Uncle had a job getting it back. When he did it had a rusty small pendulum and the chime mechanism strikes 20 'O' clock or more if at all and not even on the hour also the silent / Chime lever does not move so something is very wrong with it now. @@cedarcam Are you based in the usa or uk.etc. The clock repairer seems incompetent to me. I have done a lot of westminster mantle clocks.

@@cedarcam When he said worn shafts, he must have meant pivots at the end of the arbors that the wheels are on. These can either be smoothed out, using a watchmakers lathe I have one then a smaller bush put in the plate, because it reduces the pivot slightly. Or re pivoted. This clock repairer should have been able to do this and not lost any parts either. You can look on ebay for a [email protected]

Someone misplaced one of the ratchets it would so appear.

I think it is doing the 3rd set of chimes, instead of the first, on the hour. I usually take off the intermediate wheel on the back plate, then move the one next to the chime cylinder round, to get the chimes correct then replace the intermediate wheel, it is usually held on by a horse shoe clip. I don't get it wrong now got much more experience.The other way is to loosen off the 1/4 cam on the front plate and move that round in relation to its chime wheel on the back plate, but not if the movement is back in the clcok. If the hands are out of sync then I move foreward in 1/2 hour intervals to get that into sync. But if that keeps on happening there is a problem, as to why it is missing out some of the 1/4 chimes, and the position of the 1/4 cam doesn't correspond to the postion of the hands.
