This all began after reunification really. No hooliganism in the GDR under communism, as the stasi would have hammered any upstarts. The east just became disillusioned after reunification, the collapse of communism left a vacuum for the far right to fester, what you then got was young disillusioned east Germans caught up like these.

After watching this intriguing story I wonder if the British are to be trusted. In usual English fashion it seems as if they over complicated the situation with a miasma of political waffling then threw support to what they rationalized to be the lesser of two evils. How the world would be different had they done the right thing.

It's one of the best BBC Sport montages ever made. Gutted that the actual final didn't live up to it, Red Star could've beaten them with football, not just played for penalties like they did.

First of all, thanks for a great documentary! Balkan wars are often gruellingly complicated with usually five sides or more going at each other at one time. What MacLean fails to understand is that it was never the Chetnik forces collaborating with their enemies - it was their enemies who had a conscience after having witnessed the brutal slaugther that took lace against the serbs. Draza was a saint against vile devils on all sides. It is a miracle how he under those circumstances were able to work as effectivly as he did. One can only wonder how the borders after the war would have looked today had Patton taken the route right across the Adriatic sea to take Ploesti and the rest of Romania wo also were mostly Involuntary under the nazi yoke as the serbs - except they didn`t rise up in the streets as the brave serbs did in 41 rallying "Rather death than slavery!" against Hitler. Who had to divert a further half a million men from his budding Barbarossa campaign. He bombed Belgrade into submission NATO style causing near 4000 deaths. There was no way the serbs would want to collaborate after that.

Bullshit. Mclean himself confirms in his book "Eastern Aproaches" that he was witness of partisan attacks on Axis forces.

Mihailovic was the better man no doubt. I cannot imagine how hopeless the situation must have been. Not being able to conduct offensive warfare for seeing all the slaugthering of innocent civilians in retribution. Then the forgotten 500, the biggest air rescue operation in wartime. And having even his king betray him. Petar who more than anything wanted to be airdropped back home to Serbia - And join the chetnik resistance. Why didn`t the S.O.E. send Maclane with him to Mihailovic`s camp? Of course there has been tomfoolery
