Most good paramedics stopped that practice many years ago. Evidence based medicine vs superstition. And if a patient is presenting as a spinal injury, they come out the side of the car and not the roof. UK fire brigades continue to lag badly behind their colleagues unfortunately. Hundreds of years of tradition unimpeded by progress.

Very sad news I am in no way doubting the professionalism of the Fire Service/Brigade. However, when you have a persons reported fire, surely it would have been quicker to BA up whilst on route. Seems vital seconds were lost donning BA outside the fire. This seems to be a common thing. Why do so few turn up to fires with BA already on and ready to go?

These are professional emergency workers it's their job they know when they apply, train and commence their chosen career what to expect that's not callous, every day ordinary members of the public do exactly the same thing and give everything they can to save a complete strangers life be it an RTC, CARDIAC ARREST etc in reality they probably save more lives or lesson the chance of permanent disability.... makes you think doesn't it no wages or money reward maybe a certificate of thanks but of course we need the 999 crews but just think who Statistically is on scene first fighting to save lives!!!, thank god for training at your local school, sports Centre etc.

The boards/grills are there to stop entry because the property is empty and/or unsafe, to stop tresspassing. I fully assume the men were illegally dwelling or gained entry to the property.

What a joke this was. I've done plenty of Bariatric patient removals and transports. NEVER had to build a ramp from the first floor to remove the patient. How much did the patient weigh? 18 hours LOL! Back the transport vehicle to the front steps and place the patient in the unit. Maybe some cribbing is required at the curb? We also just required 2 portable auto ramps from the front step into the ambulance. We kept the auto ramps on our rescue unit due to the amount of Bariatric cases we transported. There is also a Bariatric Reeves that can be purchased along with furniture dollies for moving the patient within the home. Ropes are also a big help. Our EMS crew members NEVER were injured. Our normal Bariatric patient weighed around 500 pounds. Heaviest was 850. This was just SHOW BOATING.

@DS-um9hi many are regular patients. One in particular called the ambulance service 80 times in one month, triggering a Bariatric response on many of those calls. The incidents were quickly stood down when no emergency was found but unfortunately we have to respond every time.

@@thegoose4715 hi thanks for your response. What I was curious about is if there is an emergency situation as in the building is on fire, there wouldn't be the time to put ramps etc in place. In this case is there another extraction method? Obviously in this video and most likely (and thankfully) the situation isn't critical and time can be taken to plan etc.
