flight sims in general have one of the most pretentious and toxic communities to ever exist in gaming. It's like people are afraid someone might possess knowledge they don't and put them out of a job prospect in the future. Ask a question on a forum the answer boils down to it being a skill issue. "d3d.dll keeps crashing. why" - "skill issue, set your pc on fire and play in traffic". Comment sections of flying videos are full of ass wipes telling how to do it better or just outright trashing someone for something trivial... my favorite are those who correct the likes of casmo and other actual pilots about how things should be done or slam someone for not following a procedure to the letter. It's been that way for 20+ years and is only going to get worse. People need to get over themselves, accept that it's a game, realize they aren't gods gift to the virtual cockpit and have fun like the rest of us are trying to do.

I actually agree with a lot of things that Mike Humphrey says, not all though. Pity that we have to turn against someone with contrarian views. I've been a big fan of DCS, but their price-gouging really irks me, especially since June 2020, when they removed regional pricing on Steam and bumped the prices of all/most modules, making them unaffordable for me, living in a developing country. R0NiN, your story is much like mine, also wanted to become a fighter pilot in my young days, didn't make the selection and now flying on computer. In my young days, the Mirage F1 was our country's premier fighter and I was delighted when it came to DCS. But sadly it is unattainable for me due to its high price. So yeah, guess I will levitate to people with a negative view of DCS. Sorry

"Trust my, Polyslop will let you down" is all I need to know this guy is full of shit lol. From having already put 10 hours in the module and from what I'm reading everywhere this is THE best helicopter module we have right out of the gate with no hotfixes.

Since you asked for feedback sure. Although it's hard for me to believe this will matter. As for the video, while there certainly is good points hidden in this you should really work on using a script. Nothing of context was said before 12 minutes into the video and it over all it feels very much like a personal matter. You explain yourself way to much and try to cross reference with whatever "experience" instead of analyzing the bigger picture from a cause / effect or even just neutral perspective. I'd have liked more structure if possible. I'd suggest taking notes, elaborate on those and even create chapters if needed - if you want to work on that side. On the topic: Yes, toxicity exists. Especially in DCS. It's logical if you think about it in context. Who is the main audience playing the game? What is a typical background from a DCS player, what are their views and motivations? What does the lead platform do to create a tension free environment? Their own moderators are... sometimes interesting. Their platform focus is sometimes pure conflict. The lack of care for bugs and core game improvements cause tension... There are also reasons why no modern redfor planes exist publicly for gamers to use - especially considering ED's extremely close ties to ruzzia and still having a load of ruzzian developers on their payroll. Nobody believes, or should, ED or DCS is a "neutral ground" and it does create tensions - it comes bundled with the product already. Plus the whole bubble is extremely influenced and polarizing. It has unfathomable depths to it. It sometimes cracks jokes about the killing of civilians, about religion, proudly post real life videos with FLIR imagery of gunships blowing donkeys and other animals (or humans) to bits or crippling them - it's a mentally straining environment - especially behind closed doors. If a psychologist reviews many of the content creators and parts of the playerbase it'd paint a dooming picture - mental health seems to be a big, if not giant, issue. But. you can't fix all the people with mental issues and you cannot even help content creators fix theirs. I've seen ED ban people and shut down forum threads for asking about fixing bugs that exist since years. I've seen very questionable jokes, comments and more coming from the most "well respected" out there on live streams or in chats. I've seen "real jet pilots" with mental issues and drug abuse problems insult minorities, genders and whatnot in their videos - just to feel better about themselves I guess? Who knows. I've seen content creators that you mentioned abuse the war on ukraine to gain popularity with faked thumbnails and titles just to get clicks. The list could go on forever. Nobody really cares in the end aside from picking personal fights. Ultimately I've seen a ton in this "community". A community mostly just ignores these people unless it triggers their buyers remorse. I truly believe it is because we lack options. We lack alternatives. We lack balance and fictional content to guide the thoughts outside of the stereotypical fence. In closing I want to add I don't support the toxicity or lack of professionalism. But I've just decided to ignore these people more and to block even some high profile content creators entirely, no matter how "honorable" their backgrounds are. In the end videos like this aren't helping in my humble opinion. Helping or enforcing changes for the better is a futile task. It's like trying to help all who've gone through traumatic events in their lives - just that these people don't even want to be helped. All this does is pouring more oil into the fires. You may believe you support the right cause - but you turned a blind eye to many other incidents by not reporting on them or calling those out, right? And I don't even blame you for it as it'd be near a bottomless pit. Remember the video you made on TWS (track while scan) back then? No update on that even though the whole project seriously went the scam route and even the website vanished now. That however impacted many more lives investing into it than a random soul with a "toxic" facebook group, wouldn't you agree? But again, bottomless pit. So instead just focus on the positives. Criticize DCS as a platform if needed to make a change for the better. Push them to excel, patch their broken modules or deliver on long outstanding content like the missing comms ladder, the weater system, the locked down map system where we can't even mod in terrains and so on. Avoid fake thumbnails, titles. Avoid whiteknighting and fanboyism. Try to create content that isn't political or insulting - neither groups nor individuals. Try content that is unique and based off of effort. That, to me at least, would be an actual contribution. 👍

An easy explanation is this persons personality. Often, when faced with our own egos inherent flaws, but don't know what they are exactly because we lack that understanding in ourself, there is tendency for humans to become bitter and resentful in social situations, especially online where the interaction is highly impersonal and veiled in persona. I am sure this happened because of feelings of alienation previous to this event. It seems they have not figured out how to keep their own thoughts in check. An ego death after a long time of solitude and meditation is the only thing which can wake this person up to the reality of their situation.

This is the very reason I do not like the internet - and I do not engage in these kinds of things. Of course Casmo is an adult as well, and I am glad he did not scoop down to this Mike's level...seems this Mike fellow has gotten his own fiefdom (facebook group) where he is KING. So long story short: I have never mtalked to this Mike, nor have I heard of him and I hope it stays that way.

You can say what you want about Mike but I tend to agree with many of his Gripes and it's good to have a place where we can gripe without getting blacklisted by ED. We keep ED in business. They should LISTEN to us when we have a legitimate gripe. Like Mike or not, he provides a service by allowing some of us a place to air our grievances. Believe me when I tell you, I was once a DCS Fanboy. I lived and breathed DCS every single day for several years. But then there was a turn in how things functioned and how the business morphed into what it is today. I have spent a ton on Modules as well as Peripherals to enjoy my flying. So when things are turning to S**T, I believe I have the right to speak my mind without getting "ripped" and/or Banned for it. PS> If you knew how far back Sven and Mike go back and understood some of the crap Sven has broadcast about Mike, you'd better understand Mike's comments. I don't know anything about Sven either but I do know he's got some nerve saying some of the things he has and threats to Mike's FAMILY that he's made. Sven is essentially "Phone Tough" but likely a chicken S**T in person. And MAYBE if you read a few threads you'd understand why Mike was "so angry" when you asked. Mike has good reasons to be Angry with Sven and with ED as do I and MANY OTHERS who still support and fly in DCS. At the same time, I can see how Mike can get under some people's skin.

Fantastic video, excellent sentiment - kudos Unfortunately the community is littered with some complete assholes, I am one of them, often I will make a polarizing comment (unintentionally) regardless if founded in good intentions, but often it misses the mark. So what I can say about Casmo & many of the other guys like Barundus, Bradmick, HellGato & a few others whom have changed their handles & i dont know their real names, who I had the privilege of flying with in the early days of the low level hell discord, they were all great guys, & welcomed me in as a former grunt with no military flight experience, but recognized i was a commercial helo pilot. These real world apache & former kiowa pilots were constantly taking the piss out of each other (& me) & happily accepted any random grilling from me (as an outsider) openly without any temper tantrums or bruised feelings, they are just good decent human beings. Their willingness to share (unsensitive) information to help out any knowledge gaps etc was beyond generous & an opportunity too good to pass up. Inversely - I have heard NOTHING but negative things about this mike guy ... & every SME type person I know that has tried to join his servers, & made any comment that he disagrees with, he just bans & boots them. A complete narcissist & i suspect has some other mental conditions. Which is sad, I suffer from combat related PTSD which is a mental injury, not an affliction or disease, but i can empathise with those suffering mental conditions, irrespective of how the behaviour impacts the wider community that I enjoy & seriously need, I have lost my Class1 medical & can no longer fly commercially, so simulator (chair) flying is the only outlet i now have Also building simpits has always been a hobby & since my retirement has become a fulltime obsession As i age i find my tolerance to assholes gets thinner & the filter/switch doesn't engage as it used to & i just dish out both barrels. Thankyou for articulating this issue far better than i ever could have. Respect

Toxicity goes both ways though. What Mike does is douchy and low. He’s clearly shown that he has no intention of changing so we need to….. by just not taking about him anymore. I know it’s easier said than done but that’s the solution. If he stops getting attention and no one joins his group then he slowly becomes irrelevant and goes away. But there is the other side of the toxicity and that is the blind fanboys who know (or think they know) DCS so well and have all the gear that they become the assholes who talk down to or gaslight any criticism as if ED/DCS can do no wrong. They can, they have and they will again. No company is perfect and ED needs to hear criticism and feedback, yes even if it’s angry feedback…… and blind sycophantic members who do nothing but cradle DCS’s balls all the time are just as toxic. If we have disagreements we need to be adult enough to acknowledge it and move on or continue the dialogue if there lies a mutual effort to come to some sort of compromise and resolution. If that’s not possible then accept that others have opinions, agree to disagree and walk away. And for fucks sale, if you’re a content creator and get criticism, don’t take it personally. You’re a content creator, you’re bound to get flamed every now and then be it just or unjust. It comes with the territory.

As a relatively new DCS player of 7 months, and someone who has been into Flight Simulation since I was a kid with EDs SU-27 Flanker, I appreciate this testimony and maturity. I am not fully aware of what is going on with DCS but I have briefly looked at r/Hoggit and have seen the accusations and toxic negativity focused on ED and the third-party devs. It doesn't seem fair when people have been spending so much time, energy, and money, on a game they seemed to love. I get showing frustration because we want DCS to be the best it can be, but we have to offer solutions & support and be patient. Like most Social Media issues it seems to be blown up to generate views, clicks, and engagement. I really love the KZfaq DCS community and the support everyone gives one another, and for the past few years, I have avoided Reddit for the most part because it is inundated with trolls and toxicity. I am thoroughly enjoying the F-4E Phantom II; the challenges and excitement are super satisfying and I am looking forward to enjoying it for many months to come. I'll have to trial some more of the choppers but they are quite difficult for me to wrap my head around so far. But I am not subscribed to your channel and will be looking forward to diving more into the helicopter side of DCS.

@@the_apache_pit Yes we can declare it to be ED's fault. They don't even maintain their own modules, they don't bring in new 3rd parties in a relevant number, they don't shape DCS into a plausible ecosystem (we still to this day don't have a single complete theater) and they certainly don't take care of their 3rd parties enough or pick up the mess and fix it themselves. So in total that leaves us with a faulty product - of course it's ED's fault. The sad truth is the community is just accepting this attitude because there's simply no alternative - aside from niches like korea (e.g. Falcon BMS).

@@Aolen75 I’m not having a go, I just wanted to know if there was anything specific I might be overlooking in my general playing of the module. Yes, it feels like a lot of money for a bunch of pixels but before I moved over to DCS, I’d been softened up by War Thunder. They are now asking 70 squids for something nowhere near as detailed as a DCS module - which is insane. I kinda stopped giving Gaijin money as soon as it became apparent they were z-Russians 😀. So I never paid that much, thank god. Everyone has their limit, you do yours. I’m not working at the moment due to health, and I’m not spending money going out for the same reason, so for me, the price isn’t exactly an impulse buy but it’s ok for the time I’m spending in DCS. G'day champ, as Julianmorrisco eluded to, it would far more helpful if you were more specific as to what you are not happy with regard to the textures, a LOT of time & effort has been put into the module to get it right, it was always intended to be released as a completed module, no early access, no pre-release sales, nothing, full completed module at a fixed price, that was their prerogative, considering the willingness of people to fork out 75<80% for incomplete early access modules the likes of the F-16 , F-18, F15 etc, in the states of function that they were in.... IMHO you are being a bit jaded. That aside mate, please take the time to identify specific things & pass it on as constructive feedback to PC, the have persevered through some completely unique & unquestionably challenging situations that would have seen many others just abandon everything & walk away. I am a veteran on a pension, I don't have money to throw around either, but I am a keen rotor-head being an CPL(H), & would rather fly any whirly-bird than a lawn dart (so I concur I am biased), could it be that some of the graphics settings were set lower than you may have seen elsewhere? that on your personal system with your graphics settings you might be pleasantly surprised? Admittedly it isn't perfect (nothing in this world is) but it is much closer to 100% than anything we have seen released in a long time, (not disparaging HeatBlur, they are the one module creator I would buy off sight unseen) but you get my sentiment. Please use your words mate, elaborate & articulate the issues as you see them, (besides your issue with the Full module/Full price). Cheers

To back that up Sven claimed(!) to have IRL information (Addresses) on Mike and thus made clear that Mike is no longer an anonymous useraccount on the Internet but a real person his lawyers could reach out to if Mikes behaviour towards polychop would not cease. None of the information has actually been disclosed to the public by sven (doxxing). And on a sidenote: How do you even "try" to doxx someone? I don't think it's that bad... I mean sure, some of the texture is pretty terrible, but I think the overall 3D modeling isn't awful. Especially if you look at it from a bit of a distance in the F2 camera.

Mike Humphries is so infamous that there is a dcs group called "DCS players except Mike Humphries". Mike will call people a cultist because they like DCS. I blocked him.

long history with these 3rd party devs... some people don't forget the previously abandoned projects by both Poly and Razbam... both let their modules sit, significantly broken for many months or years in the past with zero communication to the community. I have all the modules and have been a dcs nut for 12 years... it's been a very rough ride. Personally, the toxicity makes sense, but isn't my style, but I certainly understand some of it, given the history.

His stream name is HellGato... jkjk. This guy is a troll, and your points are valid, but the thing with trolls as someone who has dabbled with trolling is that they are typically unattached to the actual topic but enjoy the confrontation with others attempting to be reasonable. I think you nailed it with "Don't feed the trolls," the priority should be to bring attention to the community that member X is a troll, which is beneficial, especially to the new members looking for knowledge, as the DCS learning curve is steep. However, the desire to address the individual as if they are a well-adjusted emotional adult is a waste of energy and likely to yield no actual benefit. This is a well-done and concise video on our community issue. I value you owning your content and being willing to provide exact names, as I was unaware of this individual until now.

i think we humans are naturally toxic. i myself sometimes get extremely toxic. i grew up in very toxic environment. and if someone is in the military, it's very toxic too. toxic is kinda like the other side of enthusiasm, so i get used to it and never get mad or too much hurt by it as long as everybody keep holding the truth.

What!? The military isn't toxic, it's perfectly normal to call a person a complete coward if they refuse to take a shot of whiskey, right? /s

My first impression was, ‘How much?’. They priced it too high for me I’m afraid - shame, I was looking forward to it. Maybe in a few years when it’s on sale.

There are some toxic people in the dcs community as like every gaming community, though i think the majority of people who play dcs are pretty good peoole and are always willing to help people with problems.

as someone new to dcs i learned the hard way that some (not all) of the people in this community i encountered personally is indeed quite toxic and very dismissive, especially towards new players trying to figure out stuffs for their first time. i don't regret diving into dcs though, just a little bit disappointed.

@@azure928 goes back to the perceived elitism that comes with flight sims. people are terrified someone might pass them in the knowledge race and learn something they don't yet know. Can't let ur ego get bruised and have someone be a better virtual pilot ya kno?
