Thanks for the ideas. You just proved to me i have all the materials required already in my garage. Throwing a 20hp merc on my 1950s 12ft V bottom. I just need to raise it about 4".

DOPE! Proves the point that many times the best solution is the simplest, I LOVE this and I've watched a lot of DYI jack plate vids. Excellent work my man, thank you for sharing the info.

i am going to put an adjustable leg chock at the bottom of the transom to direct much of the trust vortex into the hull rather than the extended jack plate, might help

what prevents the 2 by 4's from sinking into the boat deeper when you stand on the deck? did you screw them into the aluminum?

Shouldn't do pressure treated it causes aluminum to corrode its not stronger and painted regular wood will last along time! Looks good tho!

I like the simplicity of this. I was pondering bolting on a .25 " aluminum plate to raise my 25 hp Merc' a fixed six inches. May give it a go. Think it'll work?

I was going to spend a lot more money on a jackplate so I can mount my vintage Mercury Mark 20 at the proper height on my vintage 14 foot v-hull. This looks like a better set-up, and for less money, if a little more work. Better because the jack plate would move the motor back and put the tiller handle too far back for comfort. The jack plate effectively makes the boat longer, which has some benefits, but the comfort and ease of use is more important for my purposes. Thanks for posting this ingenious modification.

I wondered the same question , I had to watch the video three or four times it's definitely quarter-inch, but I would try to go 3/8 or half even.

I used a rubber boot seal. You can google it and find some vendors. It’s the same thing you see on combination buses.

0) nice and cheap design. I would copy 1) Good that you did 2 woods. The rear will fail if you would use the rear only. 2) bolts pins i would put outside for your sefety in case if you fall in boat in deriction of pins
