I remember finding a SHINY Goldeen in the Safari Zone in Sapphire. I was equally shocked at succeeding in catching it, as my luck in the Safari Zone is mixed.

Not even five minutes in and i get a satisfied chuckle about the unhinged decision to make Gyarados a flying type.

The major problem was you not constantly purifying shadow Pokemon during the entire campaign. The easiest way to complete Colisseum is by funneling all EXP into a single Pokemon, and allways have 5 other shadow Pokemon on you. Espeon is really the best choice for that single XP Pokemon imO. You can expedite this process even more by abusing the EXP share, because by giving that to Espeon, it will recieve 75% of all battles EXP. You'll constantly outlevel every mon by 15-20 levels, and just swap around all the shadow Pokemon. By the time i was done with the main story, i had purified about 35 of the 48 shadow Pokemon, and the purified the rest with mount battle, and spamming oils on the final few after i was done with that too. No grinding, unless you wanna count the trainer refights, with their updated teams every now and again. Cleared mount battle and every colloseum round once. Cleared everything but the Ho-oh battle refights in under 30 hours. That is sadly where i would need to start grinding a team to 50, but i don't care to do that.

Colosseum is a weird game, but i figured out a long time ago, how to most efficiently play it. Bascially you wanna have your Espeon in every single fight, and just switch out the other shadow mon, whenever you are done with opening his heart. You will constantly outlevel every enemy with your Espeon by 10-15 levels and easily oneshot everything that isn't dark type. With the twisted spoon, and being 15 levels higher, you will even oneshot steel types with physic 90% of the time, and only really need to worry about the rare dark types, that you have return for. This is up until you reach the last room before the final boss gauntlet. Thats where a massive difficulty jump comes in, where the enemies will have caught up to your Espeon, and thats where i usually clear both Mt. Battle and the optional colosseums. After that i crushed the last gauntlet with a 90+ Espeon.

The GameCube games do provide more than just Ho-oh and Lugia! If you try to complete the National Pokedex alone in Gen 3 without the GameCube games, you'll quickly run into a huge headache trying to get all three Legendary Beasts and the Johto Starters. Upon obtaining the national pokedex in FireRed and LeafGreen, one of the Legendary Beasts (decided by which starter you chose) begins to roam Kanto. This means you'd be required to do three whole playthroughs of FireRed and LeafGreen. But even more egregious is the Johto Starters which can only be obtained in Emerald. For completing the regional pokedex, you're rewarded with... one per save file. So in order to get all three Legendary Beasts and all three Johto Starters, you'll have to do three deep playthroughs of FireRed and LeafGreen and complete the regional pokedex on three separate save files in Emerald. Needless to say, it's an absurd grind. One that's easily dodged with Colosseum alone. Also, side note, you didn't actually have to evolve that Dragonair yourself. You can get a Shadow Dragonite in XD from Miror B. after snagging all the other Shadow Pokemon.

I replayed this game real quick to make sure I wasn't remembering things wrong but that's not really the case, this video is mostly just picking on the game with some fair criticism of the game. It's difficult to differentiate between "hard" and "grindy" in basically every RPG that isn't "children-easy" like regular Pokemon but for Colosseum it's rather clear: This game can be completed with little to pretty much no grind, even if it's your first playthrough with no previous knowledge of the game beforehand. The game does take some time and a lot of that is indeed seeing the same animations over and over again which is the same in regular pokemon games but this is like ten time worse. This is probably the biggest issue with the game, as regular pokemon games allows you to turn off animations if you don't want to see them. I would say that this is a 2004 issue however, as nowadays emulators offer sped up gameplay which greatly reduce the issue. I'm not going to analyse every sentence in this video and "debunk" it because it requires a lot of video games + pokemon + rpg knowledge (and a lot of time as well). But I'll end up by saying that this game was made to be tougher than the average pokemon game with a more mature setting and that it succeeded well in those regards. The game itself can be criticized for some issues, but not for a lack of skill

I’ve done this in Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee and Pokemon Shield. I wanted to make a living dex for Pokemon Violet too, but that game has horrible pokemon storage (lag and no sorting).

For the event pokemon you could have used ereader cards or distribution roms, the same ones used in Pokemon centers back in the day. Kind of loses some of the magic by using codes.

Never really realized how much Pokemon Box helped in doing my Gen 3 Living Dex. Just cutting out all of the non-Colo/XD trading while transferring to the main game is a lifesaver. Really is a shame that they didn't give XD the ability to trade with Colosseum, or access Pokemon Box.

What was the emulator/program you used to do all of this?? I want to, but because so much stuff is gate kept in terms of limited availability, time restrictions, it's impossible to do. EVen if I went and paid 300 for an old used GBA/GameCube, i'd still wouldn't be able to pull this off.

I think you can spawn some of the pokemon in alternate cave using the e-reader or am i missrembering?

I caught all of the gen 3 pokemon, with the exception of Feebas and Milotic. Those two are insanely hard to obtain in the original gen 3 games. It's a nightmare! 😭😱😖

Couldn't you have just used Pokemon Box to transfer pokemon en masse between the GBA games? It still takes a little bit to setup, but can transfer entire boxes over easily

The Numel weren't gonna do you any good either because they barely had any training, and were again 10 levels under. If they were like 5 levels, MAYBE you would have had a chance, but you were doomed to lose because they had very little EVs, and were never gonna tank Torcoal's attacks even with a quad resist.
