What happens inside when you tilt the thing? Does the food spill everywhere?

There is a leveling rack in the oven where the cooking pot is put on so that the food doesn't spill when the leg is adjusted the food doesn't spill.

Sure wish they were more affordable. The best roasted chicken i ever ate was from a sun oven solar cooker just like that.

Thank you for this . When you use multiple mason jars for pasteurizing water, it is sufficient to use one WAPI in one mason jar? If the wax melts in one jar, can we assume the temperature of the water is the same in the other 5 jars? Is it possible to use half gallon mason jars?

You will only need 1 WAPI in 1 mason jar if you have water in multiple mason jars in the SUN OVEN.

Thanks. I do miss Paul's informative videos, and that music was annoying. Please just have a spokesman describe the process. Still love my Sun Oven, and used it to make a great Thanksgiving turkey. This year I covered the turkey with a thin, black silicone mat, and was able to keep the temp up to 350 degrees, without it, the plastic bag around the turkey reflected too much sun, and I could only keep the temp at around 300 last year.

We recommend applying linseed oil to the wood ever 2 years to keep the wood in good condition.

Limitations are trees or clouds that pass over and block the sun, adverse weather and of course, you can't cook at night unless you have some incredible way to store the heat you made in your oven. I tried putting in heat sinks like black rocks or soapstone on the floor of the oven, but it takes longer for the box to heat up like that, but it does prolong the amount of time you've got a higher temperature once it does get up there. What this thing is great for is when it is too hot to bake in the summer time and you want to make a pie or bake bread. I've got pictures of some really beautiful pies and loaves of bread I made in mine and we live in upstate NY.

Just found you, thank you so much! I have not tried bread in the Sun Oven before. In this summer heat I do not want to turn on the indoor oven but I am wondering about cooking bread in the higher heat in the SO? Days here are at 105 degrees so I would imagine the SO is well over 400. Is that too hot for baking bread?

The most important factor in using a SUN OVEN is the brightness of the sun, not the outside air temperature. If your oven is too hot, you can turn it out of the sun which will lower the temperature of the oven.

I love sun oven and have been cooking with it for 5 or 6 years. Don’t like the tilt pole though. It is too difficult to raise and lower. Button is too hard to push and the foot keeps coming unscrewed. I have been tilting with different height bricks instead of using the tilt device. Been this way since I bought it. But otherwise this oven works great and I use it all the time.

I'm sorry you're having a problem with the leg in your oven. I would recommend you removing the button completely and pressing it together numerous times so that when you put it back in the leg it will be easier to use. When you remove the button you'll see that the button is part of a piece that is shaped like a V, so when you press it together it will bend it a little which will make it easier to use when it's back in the leg. The best way to remove the button piece from the leg is to press the button in and use tweezers to remove the piece. If you can't get the button pressed in enough to remove the piece you can use a pen, screwdriver or something else small to press the button.

I've managed to stop buying gasoline for about three years now with the help of a electric recumbent bike I built , maybe I can do more to help the planet by the use of a solar cooker ! I wish I had enough solar panels to cover my roof of my house.

I found your American sun oven at the Goodwill outlet north in Austin in the bins. Me and another buyer speculated as to what it was, maybe a solar vegetable dehydrator? I bought it on the off chance that it might be useful, I’m ashamed to say the pittance I paid for it. We get lots of sun in Austin, I will make good use of it! Thanks for the video. By the way, the only thing that was missing were the stakes which I can pick up anywhere.

How is the infrared radiation focused on one area ? Here there is no parabolic struture that could focus solar rays.

If you score your sourdough bread befor cooking in your regular oven you'll want to score when cooking in your SUN OVEN.

Lift and unfold the reflectors (which are hinged to the top of the Sun Oven®) and slide the slot in the bottom section of the reflectors over the thumbscrew in the wooden frame, making sure the thumbscrew fits through the slot. Twist the thumbscrew one-quarter turn to hold the reflectors in place. The latches that hold the glass door shut (on the right side of the door) are tightened before shipping - you will need to unscrew them 1⁄4 to 1⁄2 turn to make them easier to operate

I just went to use my sun oven today to cook for the first time and it fell and bent the hinges to crap and it doesn't work 😢 I took the hinges apart to get my food out to finish in the oven. The sun oven works though just use the holes to keep it centered. I sent sun oven an email. Hopefully they have replacement hinges and some black connector screw/bolt thing

I have one of these, I've had it for many years, it's so old it didn't come with the cube that tells you it's facing the sun. I just eye-ball it, it gets 350 degrees FAST with no issues!.... They are quite costly BUT, you'll be wishing you had one when the power goes out and you need to eat and you also have NO propane....

We grow heirloom tomatoes and have included various paste varieties, thanks to our Sun Oven dehydrating experience over the past 4 years. The slicing varieties we love fresh have too much water and not enough flesh, end up like pieces of thin leather. Tasty, but not much bulk. But Amish Paste, Salvatera's Select, Opalka, etc have thick skins, leaving lots of dried flesh. Place the dried bits in small zip-lock bags and freeze. A few added to any creamy soup, gravy, or sauce lights up the flavor of the entire dish. Fair warning -- there are two difficult parts. The first difficulty is minimizing the losses due to eating them before they get in the bag. The second problem for us is minimizing the number of bags our three grown children take to their kitchens. To us, they taste better than when oven dehydrated.

Are there lightweight portable ones which I could carry in a backpack? I often hike alone so rarely need to boil more than a liter of water, but seems like a useful alternative to a campfire in sunny places

The Sun Oven will survive! It's made to take the weather. Rain and water will not damage it. Just wipe it off when you get a chance.

I read in one cookbook that a hole or so needs to be put in canning jar lids to put in the oven. I would appreciate any comments.
