Hello, lovely video to watch. Just wondering what your opinion is on using or not using cork underlay. Cheers Rich
@tony-helmsdeepmodelrailwayoosc
@tony-helmsdeepmodelrailwayoosc 2 ай бұрын
Hello Richard Good question, I began my model railway journey back in 2004, originally this layout was erected within the extension at the back of my home and because this space had to be shared with ordinary home use my layout was designed to be lifted up from the floor (in two sections) and stored upright when not in use. Unfortunately for me when I built this layout I paid no attention to placing the track on a bed of cork. I do wish now I had done so and the reasoning as to not doing it now is because I have employed DCC Concepts Cobalt point motors (all situated beneath my layout) In total I have 32 point-ends on my layout, and as a result, each of the points control arms have already been cut down in size, so if I wanted to now retrofit a cork bed beneath the track I would have to purchase replacement point control arms from DCC Concepts which would quite expensive. I really do wish that I had used a cork track bed in the first place.

Any sign of a fan drive for the chuff effect or is it solely the piezo disc being turned on/off by the circuit board and hall sensor?

I'm barely getting a "wisp" of vapour from my P2. My loco also started to "screech" badly after about 30 minutes of use - but after lubrication, this stopped. My other concern was the decoder cannot be read by my ECoS system. Trying to read the decoder causes the ECoS to "short out" - so the only way to address the loco was either via the App or by another DCC Controller (luckily, I have a Gaugemaster Prodigy 2 as spare - so I used this. I recently fitted a TXS HM7000 sound decoder into a Hornby diesel locomotive and that was a nightmare! My ECoS (again) couldn't read the decoder and control could only be via the App (it wouldn't toggle between DCC and Bluetooth. Luckily - following an email to Hornby Technical Services who advised of a decoder reset and a CV change this remedied the issue, but In future I think I'll be sticking to Bachmann!

Just a quick reply to you Chris regarding my two Accurascale class 37’s I now have two of them in my collection, including a replacement model for a faulty one (the ‘stay-alive’ feature wasn’t working) Looking through KZfaq I’ve noticed other people on here reporting the ‘sound dropping out’, I’ve been successful in overcoming this problem by changing CV63 (sound volume) and reducing the sound volume to no more the 150 (the default setting was 192 which is way too high) Doing this will resolve the issue of sound dropping out and stopping.

Hello Phantom I now have two sound fitted Accurascale class 37’s both BR Green. I have found I now have quite a serious problem with both of them. Whilst running them, the sound keeps cutting out and stopping, the only way I can get the sound back on again is to tip the locomotive slightly on one side until all the wheels on one side of the track are off the rails then wait for the stay-alive to run down. Once the stay-alive has completely run down and the locomotive is powered down, I return all of the wheels to the track, the sound once again returns, then a few moments later the same thing happens again and continues to do so until the locomotive has finally warmed up! This is extremely annoying, I’m reluctant to inform Accurascale about this fault because I believe Accurascale will simply suggest the locomotives be returned to them for a possible replacement, which I don’t believe will happen due to lack of availability. I would be really interested to know if this fault is just on my two locomotives or are there many more people with the same problem?

Hello Tony, New back to the hobby. Got a few Bachmann sound locomotives. All great models. All amazing great smooth runners. Sadly both 37's are quite noisy (groaning and moaning noise from motors) gets really bad when more speed applied and with load (pulling 5 coaches) and on bends. Obviously with sound on not as noticeable. Sound isn't as nice as yours as both distort with vibrations through the body. One is worse than the other. If you press down and hold the sides (while on speed lock f7) it's OK. Hoping to be able to reduce the volume, to see if that helps. As I only have a basic controller at the moment. Will have to wait. Any suggestions to help me. Its such a shame as they are my favourite locos. Some have suggested a better speaker ! But don't think this is necessary. Cheers Mike

Hello Michael Regarding your own class 37’s all I can suggest is for you to check to see if the bogie gear towers/drive shafts and the wheel bearings need lubricating. Regarding distorted sounds, all I can suggest is perhaps lowering the sound volume a little and looking to see that the speaker is properly secured with no nearby wiring touching the speaker enclosure.

Two of which are the 2015 Bachmann’s, both split headcode variants, one in plain green, the other has a small yellow warning panel. Then there are these two ‘new tooled’ versions I received recently, one of these is once again a plain green version with split headcodes, the second is a centre headcode variant with small yellow warning panels. The two Accurascale class 37’s on preorder are another centre headcode version with a small yellow warning panel, and a split headcode variant with a small yellow warning panel. I must confess I really do adore the class 37, it’s such a beautiful looking machine. Thankfully, some 37’s are still running around on the network, which is simply wonderful. The last 37 I saw running past my signalling centre was about two years ago in a dark maroon livery, it looked and sounded absolutely fantastic, and is a testament to the durability of these machines.

Hello hythekent Thanks for your comment. No, my layout is not that large, it’s about 17ft 6ins long by 7ft 6ins at its widest point. The Accurascale Manors seem to be a bit like Marmite, you either like them or you don’t. One of the deciding factors for me was the way in which Dapol electrically connect the locomotive to the tender. I have in my collection, Moguls, D class and a couple of D1’s too, all factory fitted sound versions. I’ve experienced problems with the sound sometimes cutting out within the tenders whilst hauling rolling stock. I believe the electrical contacts within these locomotives to be a problem, as a consequence once Dapol and Accurascale both announced versions of the Manor class I remained. ‘On the fence’ I believe both versions are beautiful and both put other manufacturers to shame, however I do prefer the older style drawbar used by Accurascale.
