do you know if erd usually sells through for stores? and if not, what do the stores do with stock as they usually don’t discount. i’m wondering about these sellers on secondary sites with full size runs for certain items and the authenticity

A day before this video came up, I ordered my first pair of boots made to shape of my foot. I live in Peru and these workshops are disappearing, the craftsman working there is almost 80 years old, but his boots are rugged as he11, a friend of mine discovered his shop when he inherited his grandpa's boots and looked up the adress stamped on the inside. Those old boots he has, are the real deal and the shoemaker is not expensive at all. I tried buying some military surplus jungle boots but the sizing was weird and the sole was hard with no cushioning. I ended up reselling those and I'm currently waiting for next week my new boots are finished. My mom then told me all of my grandpas shoewear was made by hand for him, it was no that expensive back then. I feel sad about the future of Huerta's shop, none of his descendants took the business.

"these only exist because i bought them" that sounds like a weird tagline for consumerism. you're trying to make that sound like it's a good thing but it isn't really, i'd rather buy second hand knowing my money didn't kick start a whole chain of negative environmental impacts in order for you to have your 10th pair of boots you absolutely "needed"

What a wacky, holier-than-thou take. I could just as easily say that by buying secondhand from big brands, you are still feeding into the demand for those brands that causes them to produce in harmful ways. I don't believe that, I think that would be a silly thing to say, just like trying to imply that buying made-to-order isn't better than buying new in store. Obviously I'm juxtaposing that with brands who print hundreds or thousands of pieces per style, maybe even burning the leftover stock. Nothing is perfect in capitalism, but the point of my video is that made to order is *better*. It doesn't fix the world, but it is better. To imply otherwise is pointless contrarianism.
@ti2809
@ti2809 19 сағат бұрын
@@LOWluxury is it better when you already have what you need? you bring out your barely used alexander mcqueen wallet to show how much worse the leather is but it's still holding together as if it's never left the house. You get onto new boots when you already bought several pieces that are perfectly fine and achieve a nearly identical look. It would be better if there weren't people like you who after posting a video like this go back to buying stuff from big brands or just continue the discourse around big designers. I guess that's the problem when you have nothing else going for in your life than blind consumerism, outside of buying fashion and discussing fashion there isn't much else going on in there so you trick yourself into thinking that this stuff actually matters and is a genuine hobby so you automatically justify your habits. you can justify anything in fashion by saying "it's fine if i can resell this and it doesn't go into the land fill" well no, not everything you're buying is second hand or used to it's fullest, you've bought stuff new despite already having stuff that was perfectly useful. vicious cycle if kicking the problem down the road.

I bought a gorgeous RL suit in 1989 for a modern equivalent of $2500. A similar quality suit today is $5-6k. Yet most of Ralph Lauren’s Purple Label suits are about $2500-3500. Luxury quality has definitely decreased.

With my eyes. And my fingers. The fabrics aren’t as good. The stitching, construction, even the cut. I used to work for RL. I buy Purple Label products now and had a large wardrobe of RL goods in the early 90s. I shop, try on, etc. The same applies to Italian luxury brands.

even tho the jeans are a new interpretation like u stated it could still be illegal unfortunately considering the different brand elements included in the final product. imo tho, i think these kind of jeans are great because its obviously not a pair of levis and otherwise would probably go in the dumpster or at best the fabric would be reused for houses and stuff if donated back to levis (leaving a bunch of waste for the parts of the pair that arent denim i believe).
@LOWluxury
@LOWluxury 2 күн бұрын
@@andrewxzvxcud2 while you may be technically right, it’s probably a gray area, I couldn’t personally care less whether it’s illegal or legal. To me that only matters if you’re trying to pass off something fake as something real, and that’s essentially impossible here.
@andrewxzvxcud2
@andrewxzvxcud2 2 күн бұрын
@@LOWluxury i agree with the last bits and it is definitely a gray area in most aspects. in the past companies have been sued by levi for incorporating different branded elements that dont even have their name/logo on them. having the "arcuate stitching" , a certain sized tab in certain spot, etc. on a pair of jeans that are being passed off as something other than a pair of levis have gotten companies sued by them. im just saying i think thats kind of dumb for the most part, except like u mention of someone maybe passing off jeans as identical levis or smth. regardless most of these brands "get away with it" anyways as they should. in the example of these jeans tho in the video i think the new interpretation argument might win in court considering how much was changed ab them but idk.
@LOWluxury
@LOWluxury 2 күн бұрын
@@andrewxzvxcud2 there’s also a massive difference between taking real product and modifying it and making fake product that has trademarked elements from another brand. For example Nike just sued the shoe surgeon and they were very careful to say “we were totally fine with him buying Nikes and modifying them for sale. We’re not okay with him making shoes from scratch and then putting Nike branding on them”
@andrewxzvxcud2
@andrewxzvxcud2 2 күн бұрын
@@LOWluxury no i completely agree. most of those points i mentioned were of jeans not produced by levis having their brand elements, there was a big thing w japanese denim brands some years ago doing this w jeans they produced not levis. the ironic thing tho is nike has sued mschf for modifying air maxes (i believe rather than making the design from scratch) but it was settled out of court apparently, and im talking ab their charges disregarding the whole satan schtick. basically they had to pull them completely as agreed by both parties. im not aware of any similar cases when it comes to levis tho and they dont seem to care that much or maybe its just bc no brands as big as mschf have rlly done the same thing w levis idk. i didnt know ab the shoe surgeon thing but that seems very odd/contradictory considering the mschf hassle. edit: i looked it up and it seems like there might be some sort of detail w that? "when allowed under Nike-sponsored athletes’ contracts" came after the statement that his one of ones are fine. idk if that means he cant make those one of ones for normal people like me or u and only nike sponsored athletes.

I feel like that’s usually the first step towards being a more skilled craftsman though so no shade.

I remember that 10 years ago, I 've seen a documentary about Moncler puffers on Italian television. They find out that Moncler took their feathers goose from an Eastern european company who mistreated the gooses. The sanitary condition was very bad. The feathers were full of shit. A puffer with a retailed price at 1000 euros has a production cost at less than 70 euros. If I remember they also use subcontractors working in sweat shops. A part of the documentary is still on KZfaq. It is called Siamo tutti oche - Report

The juntae kim shoes don't fit match the level of quality of the other 2 pieces. I have a very strong suspicion that the juntae kim shoes are cheaply made - cemented construction and hollow heel. I think the term that describes the category you are looking for is 'artisanal' - made in small quantities by skilled artisans. The EigenGrau wallet and the Kotlovan jeans fit into that category. The juntae kim shoes don't. Even though these were all made to order, you can still get poor quality items if you don't do careful research.
