Hello, I'm currently working on a procject surronding bio food paper using local corn husks for the paper. We've found this video very interesting, and would like to ask if it is possible for us to use some of your recipie? We'd like to hear if you think the paper made from corn husks can be used in food packaging? Thanks a lot

First, the procedure that we used to make this paper is not mine. It has been used for many years. Feel free to make paper using this method. Second. I am not an expert in food packaging. I can not speak to the safety of this type of paper. The paper we made is used in art projects. I wish you the best. -Jim

Hello, Does anyone know if I could use this same process to spin yarn and just not blend the fibers at the end? I grow corn and have this idea about turning the husks into yarn but don't know how to go about it. If anyone has any ideas it'd be much appreciated!
@jaescala

Hi SageKinessling. I wish I had an answer to your question. I have never spun yarn or worked with fiber. Around the 0.31 mark you can see what the fiber looks like after it was cooked. I do not recall if we ever let the cooked fibers fully dry. My guess that it would be rather stiff and not wool like. I would love to hear about any trials that you attempt. Thanks for asking. All best, -Jim

Dang. Talk about mansplaining, Geesh you say the same thing 10 different ways for 5 minutes before doing something and then moving to the next section just to explain the same thing 10 different ways again. Shit. Just explain once and do the task. 🤦‍♂️😡 you also waste way more paper then is needed. Only like an inch has glue on it and yet you fold over 4 inches and at times throw the entire paper away for a small amount of glue 🤦‍♂️ extremely inefficient. Even towards the end you’re like I could do this or this or this, BUT. It in a here’s options for you, more like in a I don’t know what to do way. Like Geesh, is this the first book you’ve ever made and your first KZfaq video? It’s like you have no clue what you’re doing? I most definitely will never follow you and will make note to not watch your videos again. I feel like I’ve lost knowledge by watching this trash.

I watched your video and thought I would try to make a book with only 8 folios. My first attempt went disastrously wrong, glue everywhere and all the wrong bits glued together. Straight into the recycling bin! However my second attempt is a success. It was lot easier to complete each individual page with it's black hinge and then attach them to the backing card one by one rather then building each one and attaching it and getting covered in glue. My backing card was long enough that I folded it over to make a cover. I'm happy with it. I used black poster card from the local dollar store!

Good suggestion. It is worth a try to see how it works. If the fold is adding too much thickness, you can use a thinner sheet for the cover. Sorry I can't check Smith's book. I must have loaned his book and lots track of it. Happy binding! -Jim

I checked for the exact materials. I purchased the paper several years ago. I am 99% sure the black paper is “Black Licorice 100 lb cover stock and the white is also from the same vendor. I buy lots of my paper from French Paper company. For this demo I used a cover stock 100 lb paper for the the white inside sheets of paper. I used PVC book adhesive to glue the pages together and a brush to apply the PVC. In Cindy’s book, she used a black handmade paper for the cover. Her image was copied onto photo copy paper. The cut portions of her drawing were added to similar white bond paper. I hope this is helpful. -Jim

I just got an SP 15 and need to clean the press (not the rollers, but the press itself). What would you use to clean the press bed, rails, etc? Thank you!
@jaescala
@jaescala Жыл бұрын
Hi Jessie, How exciting! Hard to know with out seeing how dirty it is” Buy good rubber gloves. Hopefully you have a fan or a well ventilated room. If not look, for a respirator with a cartridge for the cleaning materials that you use. This is what I have used. I bought mine in 1980. We had limited cleaning solvents then, and most were industrial level materials. Today you may find safer ones. On mine, I still use fine steel wool or green rough pad to clean real dirty or rusty areas. I have fans and decent ventilation. I use Mineral sprits to clean the rollers and any surface area that is dirty. If you have rust you can use a product called Naval Jelly. It is pink in color and jelly like consistency. I apply it to the rusted areas, let it sit and then gently rub out the rust using fine steel wool. Another product I have used if a cloth like fiber called “Never Dull”. It is a cloth with a solvent that can clean away some stains and rust from the metal surface. I use alcohol to remove grease residue. If you have any stuck bolts, try a penetrating solvent to losses bolts and nuts. A good hardware store is your friend. They often have people with good knowledge on cleaning machinery. I keep my press well oiled and also apply oil to the gears and press bed, if I do not plan to use it for some time. I buy a single viscosity motor oil, like SW 10 when I oil my press. Hope this helps. Reach out to me if you have other questions. I don’t have much knowledge about social media, but I hear that lots of people have resources on line to help with your press. Again, congratulations and happy printing!
