Changing the wire was a pain!! But thankful for your video- Would love a video close up- I couldn’t figure out how to get the black cover off and broke it. Hoping Gallagher can send me a replacement cover. By the way, when I called Gallagher, they actually sent me a link to your video to learn how to change it because their manual is so terrible!! 😂

Do you worry about grazing grass that short? The reason I ask I have had some issues with worms in the winter of my ewe lambs grazing short grass.
@grandviewlivestock3936
@grandviewlivestock3936 5 күн бұрын
There is no way to keep them from grazing it that short in the winter. Sheep will do that and graze what they can find even with adequate hay in front of them. Parasites need over 50 degrees to hatch and some moisture. We don't have worm issues in the winter unless it is someone that went into the winter with worms. That might be your problem.

Is there a video I can go to for filling in the blanks? I hate to ask too many questions. But would like to know what breed of sheep and goat you have settled on and why. And the goats stay in the smart fence, or is there a perimeter fence to catch them? I appreciate the videos, I know it takes time you probably don’t have.
@grandviewlivestock3936
@grandviewlivestock3936 5 күн бұрын
If you go back and watch all the videos it will probably answer questions you don't know you have. The sheep are Katahdin, and the goats are Kiko, Spanish, and Texmaster breeding. Sometimes there is a perimeter fence when we use the smart fence and sometimes not. Depends on where we are grazing.

This is one of the all time best videos on grazing ever…. Why? You are showing us what successful, profitable management is really all about. Starting with the plan, dealing with the reality of the land, weather, shelter, water, equipment, soil health, and animals today. Stating that you are willing to start over with your grazing chart shows the power of a humble heart. Taking the time to talk it over and discuss options, and you give credit to Travis as well. Thank you.

Thank you very much. I appreciate the value you find in the video. As you've heard it said, "Once the battle starts, the plan goes out the window but the planning process is invaluable." This is the reality of agriculture. The thing is, we never know how things will work out until it's too late.

What would be considered stress from a draught? I have spread about 15lbs of this over 1 acre before I knew about this having so many complications and I'm concerned for my goats I plan to have grazing on it. I live in texas so every summer we go a long time without rain. Can I not let them eat it if it hasn't rained in (how long?). Worried about the nitrate poisoning

How long do u keep them on field before u rotate them
@grandviewlivestock3936
@grandviewlivestock3936 Ай бұрын
That depends. How many are on the field and how large it is and how much forage is available. There are about 600 in this herd on 90 acres with a large amount of oat forage. They have been here about 1 week. Some others get moved daily or so, some not so often. There is no set answer to that question.
