There's a race challenge south of Kakariko Village - if you get to the sign in the middle, it reads "If you have time to read this sign, you should head to the exit immediately!". And for e.g. Jahara's playthrough, it had the intended effect: making her panic, turn around and move south, causing her to discover the meaning of those little dots, jump the fence and finish in 09 seconds.

This little wood is a total waste of Space in Hyrule / the Light World. And Petting a Shop there in the Dark World isn't much better. I know there were severe Limitations but looking at what Link's Awakening did on the Gameboy it feels like there wasn't much efford to create more things to do than going from Dungeon to Dungeon, only getting Things you needet to progress between the dungeons.

If use the ice rod on the thing that steals your red shield and kill it. You get your shield back but it’ll be blue, until you get hit or something. That’s how you get the blue shield

I forgot all about this shop. Thanks for jogging my memory! I'm in the middle of a Let's Play/100% walkthrough of this game, and in the episode I just uploaded yesterday, I said the only way to get another red shield was to buy a regular shield and have the fairy queen upgrade it again. Interestingly enough, the Light World analog of that location is also a screen you never need to enter to complete the came.

This game has its faults but it was fun, especially considering it was a launch title developed on a brand new machine in about 2 weeks. I think the reputation it has is quite unfair. It's akin to those old LCD games you could get, with basic gameplay. But with better graphics. There was no way in hell I was going to long play this on any level above 1 though. It's difficult enough on 1, any higher and its impossible. At least for me.

This game is fun when you play it for 10 min and you don't know more about it, frustrating when you try to beat the game at 1st place at all races at level 4 or 5 without savestates. Too many hazards on the road and the game become unfun to play...
