Lafayette the Frenchman fought in the Revolutionary War. George Washington was impressed with his bravery in battle. He was buried in France with dirt from Bunker Hill.

Guzzi's are such special bikes, I'm not surprised you're so invested in them. The engine sound throughout your video is all the soundtrack you need.

I worked with Dennis Neill later in the 80's. He never recovered from that accident. I happened to take a picture of his bike in the pits prior to the Arai 500. It shows that the axle clamps were not tightened after a wheel change just prior to race start. Later Honda settled with him, a front wheel falling out at 140mph is not a good thing. The mountain was the wild west, crazy shit happened, memories were made, brain cells burnt, we survived and some of us still live on.

Yea mate your comment was very interesting , where in the hell did Honda get those mechanics from , it’s looks like they were chasing that handling problem there on film when he was coming back in during practice , you can understand the cap nuts not being tight enough but to be so loose they unwound and fell off & not being picked up beforehand while in the pits is more amateur than any armature privater could ever be. And it cost Den’s his life .. eventually.

i've never even been to Austrailia but in the 80s i attended many events in Europe, Assen TT, Spa, Le Mans 24h, Bol d'Or 24h, Isle of Man, Silverstone, Donnington ect. All of them had the same atmosphere that is oozing out of this old film. Thank you for transporting to those care free times.

Yea mate , that’s a good comment , a few GP legends have there raced there at Bathurst like Wayne Gardner , Graham Crosby , Mick Doohan , Kevin Magee and I think even Wes Cooley at one stage. After the Isle of Mann it’s probably the greatest road course in the World and GT3 Cars come from Europe every year for the world Championship.

Loved it up there, best racing was 250 production, the Arai and of course Unlimited and Aussie GP on sunday, could get pretty wild up the top depending where you camped. Biggest memory apart from the racing was what we were charged in town for foam eskies and firewood up on the mountain 😳 Car crowd even crazier but you never hear about that, in the end the tin tops didn't like the motorcycle safety track changes and now it's just a concrete chicane😞

Just bumped into this video. I drove from The Netherlands, with some friends also that year to Mandelo. We did it by France. Maybe we even spoke to each other, we camped in that little park close to the lake. You made a very nice video from your trip. Success with the Guzzi.

Awesome vid. thanks mate. Absolutely fantastic ride around. What better way to sooth the soul than to take the Aussie Italian girls back where they were born. Gotta say mate, your lady has a beautifull heartbeat. Sounds almost as sweet as my MK III did lol. Im Way over on the mid West coast and the times I hear that sweet sound are very few and far between. A few run around Perth but only 1 I know of lives within 200 miles of me .
