Hi, wanted to say thank you for all the pandaplacer videos. We got ours a month ago and these videos have been extremely helpful. I also wanted to ask if you ever had issues using plastic tape in these AS2 feeders? We are finding that the components that come in plastic tape don't feed consistently and sometimes the components pop out of the strip. We don't see these problems as much with paper tape.

@@noahhamamura74 I'm happy they're helping. I will put that topic on my list. Make sure your top clamp screw is tight. Tapping on the tape should not bounce the tape. If it does, tighten the top clamp more.

Shame about the ROM. I've never seen one like that before... would it be possible to remove the whole mounting from the board, and put it into the ZIF socket that way? I'm guessing, with such a low serial number and a sales rep model, this would have been a prototype, and easy removal / insertion of the firmware would have been their priority, not expecting the device to be around 4 years later, never mind over 40! It'd be interesting to see if there's any hidden features / test modes left behind. I wonder if someone could knock up an emulator for it in MAME?

I have the remnants of an old 1970's -80's beer sign that has a led moving display on the bottom. i think it used to scroll "Budweiser..... the king of beers... cold... and refreshing " if I remember correctly. I didn't care that much about the printed signage, but kept the moving LED display part of it. it was working, but then I moved it around and there was a loose barrel connector and it went on and off a few times, and now it won't come on. I think a voltage spike took out one of the I.C's. but thought it would be kewl if I could get it going again, and figure out how to reprogram it to say something else on the screen.

@@nickydoes Mostly its a good thing, the specialized components seems to create better solutions than generic ones would have. Only possible downside, they would be harder to replace if they ever break. Speaking of breaking, does the x carriage have to reach the physical end stop furthest away from the motor? Asking as the last bit of the FPC seems to have a very hard time getting over the zip ties on the belt, and ends up getting caught between the y bracket and the x carriage. It doesn't look like something that will be good for it in the long run.

@@LoveMyRottweiler1Hi! It's been a while since I've had my hands in the Selectric. The carriage advance issue is 90% likely due to waxy lubricant. Yes, it will be worth more working / refurbished, but probably not enough of an added to justify refurbishing it. Check to see if the white plastic pulley on the main 'cycle shaft' is cracked. If it is, the machine will make a lumpy-lumpy sound as the cracked tooth contacts the drive belt. The fix is easy for golfball typewriter nerds, but not for normal people. Watch Duane Jensen's videos for a taste. I'd sell it as is, probably on Facebook Marketplace if possible.

One more thing: the whole of the mechanical machine is likely gummed up with waxy oil. Fixing the advance issue will likely reveal the next issue, and so on. These machines are amazing, but they were built in large numbers, so they're not yet rare.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and helping make the Lumen better as a result.

Yes, however there was no realistic upgrade path or assistance to help Opulo early adopters to migrate as you learned. Josef Prusa mastered that trick. The LumenPnP never made a single board, despite hours of attempts, which stings. Service and assistance was difficult - I related my bottom camera replacement story already. Basically, I never felt Opulo's love despite joining the family. The PandaPlacer was populating 0603s two days after it arrived, and is now placing 0402s consistently. It is also 1/3 the cost. No, I'm not a shill. I paid full price for their products and have no hard or soft comp from PP. I'm just very satisfied with their product.
