Been doing this for a while but trying to use more stock plugins as they sound good and are very useful. That stereo delay treatment back into the reverb is just the thing that I’ve been looking for to really make the vocals stand out. Great video.

awesome. This is also great for fade outs on the stereo out bus. Instead of a boring straight off ramp.

Great, inspiring and somehow logical. If you don’t want to get the usual boring stuff allow yourself to enjoy unconventional methods to get different results. Often that’s a lot quicker and definitely more satisfying to listen to. It’s worth it and a lot of fun to risk failure.

Comping sucks . It slows down my work to a crawl . Editing comps is crapp and a time waster as well . If you don’t like the take you did record it until you get it right DONT use multiple takes and coble some bad or incomplete takes together either and in the time it takes to record it over you would be wasting time sticking crappy takes together . Just another example of how Apple intentionally wastes our time to burn up our warranty’s on our computer or the dreaded iOS devices that used to be amazing until apple turned it into a prosumer device by not giving it any connectivity except one shitty usb 3 port and a bunch of shitty dongles instead. That’s why I canceled logic for iOS and Final Cut on top of there not being a real course on how to use their cryptic software and interfaces that aren’t even remotely fleshed out at all anymore. 😖

Love all this! Two quick things that might go against the grain a bit: I understand that it’s normal to basically put all the faders to unity and gain staged “correctly” but to me it makes no difference and I would much rather have the tracks at the level they already mixed them, prevents someone from having to rebalance the whole mix. In logic if a track is too quiet for someone they can literally just gain it up with nearly no penalty. Also I wonder if it is easier to just deliver two folders- one being processed and one being totally raw. Seems to minimize a ton of work and avoids at guessing what the mixer might need. I usually tell them to grab the drums and vocals out of the raw folder and ise everything else from the processed folder (so many sounds in profuctions having been created using plugins) Happy to hear why some mix engineer might totally disagree with those two ideas- always trying to make my workflow better and easier for my collaborators

Awesome vid. How is Melodyne’s detection of notes compared to Logic’s? Want a method of recording guitar and switching it to midi for piano. Was using the free version of MIDI Guitar 2 but not always accurate

Sorry Chris. It just seems like so many steps that make a vocal feel un natural to me. Take a listen to Jethro Tull's Aqualung, Ween, for the weird, Yes, for the mixes, Knower for the weird modern, Thank You Scientist for the extreme, Myles Davis Kinda Blue for a recording experience, as well as Tori Amos, pretty much anything. I have more. Respectfully, I digress. Maybe I'm just crazy. But do listen to Sam Cooke... Down by the river. May be to much rev, but the vocal is captured amazingly.

Old school engineer chiming in. Take it for what it is worth. 4 eq's? 3 compressors? First and foremost, know your mics. Set them up well NEVER record with any effects. Second, tighten your Q and yes, diminutive EQ as said in the "pre" eq. Get it correct. Compression depends on the material. Stop squashing it so much if you have a dynamic singer (imagine squashing Peter Gabriel so much that his songs turned to garbage). Effects. Try and see what your talent likes. Play with it. Most important. Learn to mix. If you are mixing vocals, don't listen to them. Listen to everything else around it to see where it should be placed. Want some amazing albums to learn recording and mixing? Hit me up. Less is more.

I cannot wait for you to blow up! I've been working at learning how to record and produce on my own for awhile now and have made a ton of progress but everything was always a bit off. This video with your others (btw pls make a playlist for all the logic videos in order that'd be extremely helpful!) has shown me I'm using the right tools just not in the best way I can! Also seeing the correct order in which to use them has been more helpful than the hours of videos I've watched 🥲

Hey man, great tutorial. One suggestion, stop ending your sentences with rising incidences. It makes you sound less authoritative. You have a great information in your videos, and do not put subconscious triggers that would diminish your credibility.

Still trying to decide which daw to move over to from Reason. I love a lot about Logic, but stuff like this...not so much. Channel Link in Cubase 13 Pro is fantastic. I can quad track my guitars through 4 Neural DSP amps and then link them all so I only have to adjust one amp tone to adjust them all. Very much hoping Logic gets something like this one day. Apparently AI musicians were a higher priority for 11...said no-one ever haha. Still, appreciate the video man. Very thorough!!

I need a proper dark mood. Can’t pay $70 for LP colorizer for something Apple can actually implement, Final cut has it, so logic can too. Then moving tracks on the mixer would be nice. I don’t make instrumentals in logic(Ableton for creating the beats/sound design….., logic for recording, mixing and mastering) that being said, loop punch in would be great!!! The piano roll overhaul doesn’t move me but would be nice for the community. Plugin search too, very important…. Nice video btw🫡
