Same issue. This worked. While it was in warranty, I had been sending my K701 in for warranty repair, but this was the first time fixing it myself. The warranty repair shop had glued the white wire to the housing, possibly in an attempt at strain relief. When it broke this time, it detached in a deeper, different place in the headphone instead of on the posts where yours broke.

Same works for K712 Pro. Mine had stopped working on the left side (the one that connects to the cable). Struggled a bit with getting the cover off but once I got it off I noticed the yellow wire was disconnected. soldering it up was simple and quick and now it works again. Edit: To get the cover off I had to pry it off using a flathead, would've been cool to see it in the video, the most difficult part IMO was getting it off the frame of the headpiece, but with some careful force it wasn't too difficult.

Thank you! The left channel on my Q701s gave out tonight. Same issue as yours: wire came loose from the terminal. With the help of your video and a couple drops of solder, it’s now fixed. Much appreciated!

Literally just had to do this, your video gave me the direction so I didn't break them taking the cover off. Shame you have to cannibalise the silver cover though.

Thanks so much! same headphones, same problem (didn't show up until about 2 years after purchase). In my case, the white wire on the right was squeezed off, obviously during assembly when putting on the black cap. Support in Germany pretended not to know the problem and said I would just have to buy a new one....

Thanks for the tutorial! Although, I just want to point-out that stranded cables, although mire fragile, are way better to transmit electricity than solid wires... In case of audio, on such small gauge of wires, a solid core could even degrade sound quality! Anyways, I was trying to open-up my AKGs, and your video helped a lot! Thanks!

Thanks! The twisting of the silver cover was what helped me, took seconds to diagnose the issue afterwards. Mine was on the mini XLR input jack side, three wires there, and they were shorting. Just moved them back into a better position and good as new again. Brilliant!

Wow, I can't thank you enough. I had the exact same problem. I used the thin end of a plastic spudger to rotate the silver cover and remove it without leaving any blemishes. I can't believe how simple it was to fix these headphones.

THANK YOU BUD! I couldn't find my solder but I was able to reflow it with the solder that was already on the little post. Temporary fix but I got new solder coming in the mail. I spent a good 25 minutes trying to figure out how these came apart before stumbling across your video. ^_^ Definitely earned my subscription haha PS: the issue isn't really the multi core wire. The issue is they never accounted for the cup moving around causing fatigue of the wire. They should've put in a wire clamp or some other strain relief into it. Kinda disappointing on AKGs end.

Thank you! I was searching for the way to open some AKG K612 pro for soldering (because one side had a loose contact) and the K702 have quite the similar design, so your video, also showing the contact locations, helped a lot to repair them quickly!

My near 300€ studio pro AKGs went in one ear earlier today after just over a year of - delicate - use. Just back with some cheap new JVCs and disappointed with the cheap sound trawled around and found this. I’ve got some good older AKGs also kaput in one ear, so am going to try and fix both. Soldering iron is a bit large and I’m no Swiss watch maker, now I just need some tweezers.

I know literally nothing about soldering or electrical maguffins whatsoever, so does soldering affect the signal quality at all? If I didn’t do an amazing job at soldering is there a risk it’d lower the audio quality?

Hello there, the same just happened to me. I dont have any knowledge in soldering, what soldering iron and what solder wire should i get for this type of headphone? And also, would this connection be possible if I use electrical tape, when I dont have access to soldering iron? Thanks for your answer :)

hey! I've had mine for 3-4 years now. since a few weeks the left ear has been cutting off or quieter. I changed the cable, removed the earcuffs to clean them, nothing, then found your video. The soldering joints on mine are wrapped in heat-shrink stuff, which made me unable to check them, but is also likely a good design change to fix that particular issue! there was some dust on the inside end of the mini-XLR port, I cleaned it, and it seems to all work fine now. maybe it was bridging the connections or something. whatever, I think it's good, and good to see they also updated their design to fix the de-soldering issue!

Man I had these sitting in a bag in my closet for almost 6 years. I opened up the right side and the red wire was disconnected. I don't have a soldering gun so I just took some more wire and "braided/wrapped" it in back to the solder point. It freaking works! Thanks so much.

They don’t sound shit though, at least my 712 is awesome, fantastic clarity and spacing. If you’re working with electrical stuff it’s always wise to have a soldering iron around. Any wiring no matter how good when it’s getting vibrated to hell by speakers in s going to get loosened up parts. It’s normal.
