Definitely the best striker in history but not the best player in history. His career was as erratic as Ronaldinho's.

As someone that has been watching Messi play for 17+ years, I can confidently tell you that even though Messi was insane 2009-2012, I don't think that was his prime at all. Yes he scored 73 goals and got 30 assists in 60 games in 2011/12, the team, the coach, and the oppositions favoured him then. Don't get me wrong, I'm not taking away what he's done in that period, I just think that playing in arguably one of the best squads in history really benefitted him. With that said, I believe Messi's prime was 2018/19. Why? Starting with stats, he scored 51 goals and got 19 assist in 50 games. From those 51 goals, 8 of them were free kicks, and 5 were outside of the box, while only scoring 5/6 penalties. Not to mention 12 goals in the champions league against teams like Inter Tottenham, Man United, and Liverpool. He also was MOTM in 24 of the 50 games. In comparison, 2011/12, from the 73 goals, he only scored 3 free kicks, and 1 outside of the box, he also scored 14/17 penalties and got MOTM in 32 of the 60 games. He scored 14 goals in the champions league only notably playing Milan and Chelsea (which he didn't score against). When looking at the stats, any logical person would say that 2011/12 Messi was better. However, as I have stated before, the squad made a huge difference. In 2011/12, Messi had prime Iniesta, prime Xavi, prime David Villa, prime Busquets, arguably prime Fabregas, Pedro, and prime Dani Alves. To top it off, the coach was Guardiola. In 2018/19, the only notable players were Ter Stegen and Suarez in some matches. I watched every single Barcelona match that season, and I can confidently say that during that season, Messi was almost a one man show. Dropping all the way to DM position to get the ball and start an attack. He had to create the chances and score the goals since he was the only one with the vision and skill to give key passes. Even with those key passes, players like Suarez, Coutinho, Dembele, and Rakitic simply fumbled free chances on goal. It sounds like I'm hating on the 2018/19 squad and belittling their contribution, but they don't compare with the 2011/12 squad. Messi was INCREDIBLE in the 2018/19 season and I'm honestly sad that very little people give enough credit for the performances he's given in that season. To me, that is his best season because of the difference in squad quality, the coach, the more difficult way of playing since most teams learned to park the bus, and also 2-3 players man marking Messi. That is why I think the 2018/19 season was better than the 2011/12 season.

A very well done analysis on your part, personally, I already consider these seasons equal, I don't really have a particular favorite. In first place are the seasons 10/11, 11/12, 12/13, 14/15 and 18/19. In second place we can easily put 08/09, 09/10, 16/17. Sometimes I sit and wonder how many goals he could have scored, if he kept his top/wing position throughout his career and didn't use to drop so much.

@@stefanprintultau6898 I believe the reason he dropped more into a playmaker role is because of Suarez and Neymar, also since there were no real playmakers in the squad. Just box to box midfielders. No one had the same vision and skill as Messi or even Iniesta and Xavi and Fabregas. The reason I don’t consider the 14/15 season his best even tho I believe it’s just behind the 18/19 and 11/12 seasons, is because that squad was incredibly strong. Ofc the 15/16 season he got injured. The 16/17 season was Neymar’s best season in his career imo, although Messi was also incredible, he was still short of those memorable seasons. Only really well known event is the goal against real madrid in the final minutes and the iconic photo.

@@faisalhp1773 To be honest, I don't know how good this decision was by him to go down the middle to create other goalscoring opportunities, given that he is the best finisher in the world. Before 2015, I can say that even he was Mr.UCL due to so many moments in ucl KO's rounds. After that, he used to go down so much that it became useless, I remember as if it was yesterday, when I had three or four goalscoring opportunities with Liverpool in 2019, and they were all wasted, now that I think about it , if it had been him, at least there would have been a goal. While ronaldo, he stayed as he stayed, next to the box, but he always scored goals, he almost won 3 ucl and 3 ballon dors in three consecutive years (if it wasn't modric's Croatia). It was hard to see this, after a clear dominance of Barcelona in '09-12. I consider this to be the SECOND biggest mistake of Barcelona's great downfall, after the bad management of the team, in terms of transfers and coaches.

@@stefanprintultau6898 I believe Ronaldo changed to play more of a striker role because his team helped him and the coaches realised his strength and built a team around it. Barcelona was plagued by the old management and a series of subpar coaches, not worthy of the club’s name. Valverde did well by winning the league but always fell short outside. Koeman was a coward, and I don’t even remember who replaced him afterwards. By that time, the team had already collapsed. Too much debt to get new world class players, and no motivation or drive from any player, only Messi and a couple of other players gave everything. I do think however the decision to drop to a playmaker role benefitted Messi, he became a much more well rounded player, and atleast to me, more creative. He used raw talent and skill as a youngster, as well as explosive speed. He became slower ofc as he aged, but his dribbling never dropped, if anything it became better with his experience.

As Ronaldo fan, i agree that Hazard has more natural talent than Cristiano. We can all agree that Hazard was not even training properly and put that much effort to play like he did in his prime. You can all watch his teammates interview about his laziness in training. I even believe that Neymar and Messi got more Natural Talent than Ronaldo. Maybe if Neymar and Hazard got 10/10 talent and Messi got like 20/10 talent, I’ll rate Ronaldo’s talent at 8/10. But being the best footballer with talent alone isn’t enough. There are a lot of factors. Like your environnent, health, discipline, hardwork, mental state, etc. Ronaldo basically has everything and that’s why he can be the best even with 8/10 talent. He can even compete with someone like Messi who got a lot nore Natural Talent than him and be the God Tier footballer. Neymar and Hazard were just two of the of player who’s performing really well with talents alone eventhough only for a short time. You can name other players maybe like R9, Ronaldinho etc There’s a lot of players who were born with a lot of Natural Talent and most of the times being talented alone can get to most of the players head that they start of being lazy, unprofesional and indiscipline. In the future there will be more players like this especially if you put social media in there. But there’s only one reason why Cristiano Ronaldo will always be the best even he’s not blessed with insane amount of talent like the other legends, no one got Ronaldo’s hardwork, profesionalism, mentality and all other quality he got as a player exclude his Natural Talent.

People disrespect this man too much. Comparing him with Hazard.....come on. Saying he's overrated. If he is so overrated, with the exception of Messi, which player has come close to doing what he has done. Give respect where respect is due. Arguably the greatest to play the game......apart from Messi
