Jack Johnson stepping up in 2022 is a big reason the Avs finally got past round 2 and won the Cup. He made that blue line balanced instead of overly "offensive" and small when paired with EJ. He was a solid presence and will be missed for what he brought. This year Jack equal to Girard in goal production (3 each) and shot pc both with abysmal below 5%. I still don't know why Girard is so loved and called an offensive Dman when his stats are like old man Johnsons.

Love our guy Jack. He was especially *reliable* on the ice this year. Looked to me like a couple bad habits got coached right out of him. Loved that shot of him pissing off Benn (I remember that game and that *moment*, perfect photo choice!). Benn is a [censored]. I know I'm late on Sammy G remarks, but dayum I loved watching him just shut down McDavid. That's very serious D skill.

I don't remember what William Carrier has done vs the Avs to make him persona non grata. Refresh my memory...? Jack Johnson had a great year. I gave him an A. He was an excellent defenseman on a team where the defensemen are all expected to be forwards too, apparently. Pretty much every time I noticed him, he was doing something positive.

It's looking more and more like the Utah Hockey Club is going to be called the "Yeti." Thoughts on that? I find it baffling and not a little annoying that they would take a name that was the Avalanche logo and mascot for years.

Of the top 6 picks for the team 4 of them are closely related to, or directly taken from Colorado. Blizzard and yeti from the avs, and the outlaws/mammoth from the lacrosse teams. Venom would be my choice

@@madamebattleaxe4257They let Alex Meruelo (owner of the Coyotes) keep the name and logo for like the next 5 years. So, if he finds a place to put an actual arena for a team within that time, they will again be the Coyotes. That is why the Utah Hockey Club must choose a different name. I am in comp;rte agreement with you that they stay away from Yeti.

Was just informed the series is NOT titled 'Drive to Survive'. That is the title of the F1 series on Netflix that the same production company did. If I had any interest in F1 I would have realized that. Carry on!

Sammy has always been such a polorizing player, hes somewhat a jack of all trades role on the backend, though hes way more valuable to this team than most in the nhl. Keep him aorund. I though he had a great season.

I like Sammy G and happy he made it back from whatever he was battling. He is a great puck mover and good passer. But has no presence in front of the net and I have never seen so many shots go into the shin pads of defenders. It is quite strange all the flashback for any criticism directed at him or when his name is brought up in trade rumors.

It's amazing to me how little our fan base knows about hockey. Sammy is a baller defenseman. Yes he makes mistakes. Yes he has moments that make us all want to pull our hair out, but overall he is easily one of our most reliable defenseman. As for his salary, if you don't think he is worth 5 million a year you have no clue about hockey in general and I don't really know what to say to you. Darnell nurse makes 9.25 mil a year. Sammy makes almost half that. Sammy is the better defenseman of the two. It's not rocket science. In this market with the salary cap the way it is a second pair defenseman is 100% worth at least 5 mil a year.

Not worth the 5 Mil he being payed, too small for playoffs, and what I saw this season was nothing but jump the zone shoot and miss the net and allow for easy breakouts for the other team, very poor setups for other Avs. The only people who don’t have this gushing for him year after year is the fan base.

Sammy G story was the story that we all had hoped Val would mimic. You go into the player protocol you get help and then you come back and play great. Sammy G did great this year considering all that went on. I was rooting for him and he showed up. Highlight goal this year for Sammy was the flip in goal from the Red line. Just awesome.

@@LockedOnAvalanche Yeah it was earned for him by the rest of the team that were capable of remaining healthy in brutal NHL playoffs. He didn't win shit, Nathan Mackinnon and Cale Makar won it for him. The Avalanche have not gotten past round 2 with Girard in the lineup and that's a fact.

@@bafriesen they don't put asterisks on the Cup for that. And while he might not have played much in the post season he contributed during the regular season which is important as well. But my initial response was more towards his argument being a silly one trying to get angry at a player who's been on a Cup winning team compared to a player who's playing in one.

Sammy was definitely my least favorite Av last year given how many times he directly scored in our own net last year. This year was an awesome comeback year for him and was exciting to watch. I feel he absolutely earned that A-. Almost deserves a flat A for the center ice goal

The perfect contract for Drouin is 25$/6 years,,, 4 million a year for 6 years and 1 million $ bonus at signing ,,, it’s a win for both sides he gets the same $ in Mtl for a year longer and for the Avs it’s a win cause the more the years go forward the value gets better and better

Who all remembers when he wore the "A" in 2021? I took my family to St Louis for the April 24, 2021 game. I noticed Girard wearing the "A" and called out his name. I made an "A" outline on my shirt and gave him a thumbs-up. He then went to the bench and skated back across to give my son a stick.

Agreed, not really. 3 goals all year from an offensive dman? Unacceptable. I don't expect him to be Makar but I expect more output than Manson. As biggest Girard hater I can say that Girard had moments of good but also moments of stupid. Good: blocking shots Stupid: unable to defend net front due to size. I do hate that all of his offensive possessions he's incapable of burying point blank chances, sends pucks wide of the net all the time, he CANNOT score from the blue line and throws pucks into legs. Glad that Chris is FINALLY seeing the things I harped on about Girard FOREVER. People love to tell me on Twitter Girard is sooo good and I'm like at what, passing? GTFO. Little man passing (esp on 3 dman PP) isn't winning jack shit. The Avs need to move on and use that money for cheaper big body to go deeper.

I feel like you guys keep forgetting that the salary cap is increasing as is what certain players are worth. A second pair defenseman is absolutely worth 5 mil LMFAO. Toews for example easily could have cleared 9 mil/ year with another team, but took a team friendly deal to stay with the Avs.

Monahan contract with mtl after the trade should be a comparable. 1 year around 2m. shouldn't be more. Use this 1 year to prove You're actually what we presume and then get paid. 1 more year gives the Av's a good player to chase another cup.

I have to root against Corey Perry and honestly it will amuse me if McDavid has to wait a little longer for the big prize. Florida has never won a Cup, so I can root for them... but they do have a Tkachuk. So it's both "I don't care" and "ugh." I think I'm with Chris re: Drouin. We can't be the only ones to observe that it is very much his current situation that turned his career around. Hopefully the Avs will come up with a fair offer.

The Avs should better watch the Panthers. That's how you play successful hockey. I would be surprised if Drouin will sign so low that it will be cheap enough for MacFarland. Get all the old guys! Is that the new way for the Avs just to stay cheap? Does MacFarland want to win a cup? After his press conference I say no! Just saving money will not get you a top team.
