I appreciate this well done video. I have looked at several and this is the best. I have one question. At approximately 14:45 in the video, you show a part #65848 (Carrier) . You look at the package and then set it aside. I don't see what you do with it. I have the same part and I can't figure out where it goes. Any suggestions? Thanks!
@ProWrenching23 сағат бұрын
@@billallen1095 Thank you! Glad the video was helpful. I ordered all the parts for the job, but after I inspected the existing carrier, I decided that was in good condition and decided not to replace it. The carrier is a plastic ring that sits inside the block.

I'm installing the same kit on the same motor so I was excited to find your video. Unfortunately the information i was looking for is missing. The instructions don't include anything about wiring. The wires are color coded on the motor, but on the upgrade kit they're both black. So there's no way to tell which is positive and negative. The instructions say to connect the wires of the upgrade switch to the appropriate wires on the motor. But there's no way to tell which wire goes where. I was hoping you would help with that but you didn't cover it at all. Maybe they're interchangeable? But I hate to guess at something like that. It would have been helpful if you would've covered that.

@@jonathanbarber1328 Thanks! i appreciate the compliment. That’s an in-line fuel filter. It was on the engine when I bought it. It’s the kind that can be reused and cleaned out. My fuel lines are run direct to the engine as well. I’m not using the quick connect to the engine.

Is it true if you turn the propeller counter clockwise it could break the water pump?
@ProWrenching24 күн бұрын
It’s not good for it. That would be most likely to happen if the water pump impeller was old and brittle.

@@ProWrenching This morning I went to work on the Merc 175 black max I set up a 5 gallon tout and had a hose running to the rabbit ears the water pump was working just a slow run out the back so I think the water pump is good. I took off the caling and when I did a bolt fell out that went just behind the air intake near the motor. I tightened down the bolts on both sides. Too much air will cause the motor to bog I think.

I have a 454 Mercruiser with mechanical fuel pump. It has a bulb fuel primer going to fuel water separator filter. Do a really need a hand bulb primer at all? Shouldn't the mechanical fuel pump work fine?
@ProWrenching25 күн бұрын
Mine doesn’t have a primer bulb. It could come in handy if your boats been sitting a while, would prevent the extra cranks from the fuel pump having to build up fuel in the carburetor.

Question, I have a 1997 StarCraft, the shifter is connected backwards. So I have to pull the lever back to go forwards. What is connected wrong? Is this a hard fix for a owner to do alone? Is it worth fixing considering the risk of breaking something while fixing? Could there have been a good reason a past owner made it work backwards?
@ProWrenching25 күн бұрын
That is strange. Boat motors have right hand and left-hand propellers. If somebody put the wrong kind of propeller on your motor, it may make it go backwards instead of forwards. I would look at the propeller first.

I jave an issue with my 175. I have took carbs apart. Adjusted the floats. Changed one of them. But i have to kep the throttle shifter forward so it will stay running. If i pull it back too far or in the actual nutrual position it will stall out. Almost sounds like it wants to back fire. But it stalls and pushes gas out if the overflow tube. If thats what the tube is. Too much gas? Or not butning it off. It does idle good and sound good idled up. It eill take the fas then. Do you have a video that will help me??
@ProWrenchingАй бұрын
If your carburetor is overflowing when idling , I recommend rechecking the float adjustment. Also check your fuel lines to make sure that you don’t have a leak.

What is the purpose for this valve
@ProWrenchingАй бұрын
A poppet valve regulates the amoumt of water that flows into a boat motor based on the motor’s RPM. It’s part of the cooling system
