Hi Hazie, it’s such a gem that I found your youtube videos! Thank you for great videos. Where did you get the checklist for the toys for each stage by the way? I bet this really helps for arranging toys on the shelves!

We started with videos of an aquarium. My son loves looking at the fish swimming by and wasn't overstimulated after. The orchestra is such a good idea as well!

Wish I had watched this yesterday 😂 my little one never has screentime but I found myself in a bit of a situation this morning where I had to take an urgent business call and in my panic randomly turned on the TV. because I knew that giving her an activity or colouring would not occupy her long enough to take my call. Because my little one never gets to watch TV I wasn't really prepared on what to show her and so I panicked and turned on the first thing that came to mind which was stupidly Miss Rachel. Needless to say I won't give her this sort of content again.how obnoxious is that channel? 😮 Sheer moment of rushing things and not thinking clearly. My daughter started screaming in panic 10mins into it because she just could not comprehend what she was seeing. She is 21 months this week and has had no exposure, possibly 20 minutes altogether in all her life of TV. This was way too overwhelming for her. I don't think she had any concept of this not being real or for those figures motto break out of the screen . Also: puppets are scary. I watched the clip she saw back later on to make sure I had not shown her anything inappropriate. It was fine but very overstimulating. I think that is the other issue: You can turn something on without actually knowing what your kids will see when you walk away to do your tasks/work. KZfaq can be a weird place.

I love how you said she doesn’t do things magically on her own still but doing things collaboratively is still the way to go. I originally tried teaching my little kids (3, 4) doing everything independently like getting dressed, cleaning messes etc… and they were able to do it with reminders, but realized at this age, they much rather do stuff together with parents- it’s bonding connecting time and they are just so much happier getting thru the day. And stuff gets done faster too.

Relevant, important topic to talk about. Agree- I did orchestra for my kiddies too! And I talked about the various instruments, identifying them, their sounds… I agree most kid stuff is way too stimulating. The visuals overstimulate me as an adult 🤣🤣

Such a great video yet again, very helpful advice. I didn't know that TV could affect self regulating if used to when toddler is upset. I will keep this in mind, I also like the tip to show orchestra or similar videos that will only be stimulating for 10mins.

I myself love learning foreign languages. And I think videos like comprehensible input (target language) are great. Many of them are not that long 10-15 minutes and usual have real people talking and describing things/drawings. Sometimes I put this kind of videos for my sister. She does watch them. I had a thought that since babies love repeated stuff and this kind of videos ideally should be watched repeatedly, those gonna be introduction screen time for them. My sister also loves Alphablocks

Thank you for sharing! I didn’t even think to search for orchestra on KZfaq or use that as the first type of screen time. I have a 7 month old and the form of “screen time” we introduced to him to is video calling with family. Since having a baby I have found many of your videos helpful. Do you happen to have a recipe for the spinach pancakes you and your daughter made in this video?

Glad you find it helpful! You can watch Play School Let's Eat on KZfaq and you will find the recipe there! You just need spinach, banana, egg, oat meal, and water 😀 very simple! (We like to add some butter in the batch)

Yeah, it’s pretty simple. Praise the energy and work ethic that’s put towards the work that they are doing. Point out specific things that they did that you want them to do again, which is focused on their work, effort, and any tangible thing that they actually did.

I wish someone could read my comment and give me their thoughts. My daughter is turning 1 year and i’m in the process of moving her to her room and planning to have the same bed for her. However, my only concern if she starts to walk how i could leave her in this bed knowing that she might go outside or do something 🥲🥲🥲 uhh im so confused

Hey, I totally get your concern. I had the same issue when my daughter figured out how to open her door early on. We ended up putting a safety gate outside her door, which gave me peace of mind that she wouldn’t wander into the living room at night. We took it down when she turned three, as I felt she was old enough not to get into anything dangerous (though she’s pretty cautious by nature, so trust your gut since you know your son best). We’re using the same safety gate for my son’s room, and it’s working great for him too. Hope this helps ease your worries!

I work with children from time to time. If they come, proud or enthusiastic and want me to praise them, sometimes I ask: how do you feel about it? Are you satisfied? Was it interesting for you? How did you come there? Yesterday it was different, what has changed? I trie to mirror their happiness and joy and focus on their feelings and thoughts instead of judging the results, products or their skills . This is very interesting because lots of children seem to be surprised that I am interested in the process and in them and not so much in the results or the image of things.

I haven't had time to read any books on Montessori, but I too teach my little girl things all around the house and explain why we do them, and then she gets to try if she wants too. She too loves picking out flowers and checking fruit and vegetables for whether they are as they should or not :) She also loves shopping with me, but by herself and come back with clean yoghurt, frukt, nuts and other healthy foods - never any candy, as she'd rather sit on the store floor and flip through the comics that are across the isle 😊
