Great stuff. Are these tubes for sale? I would like to try them in a preamplifier circuit.

This is amazing! What a talent and skill. Very, VERY few people are capable of making their own tubes and make them work as well with a handful of ancient parts. Chapeau! My hat off to you.

Let me tell you something you already know for those at home watching: Any tool that come in contact with the flame of the torch or is subjected to high heat is scaraficial. Tools that are tempered will lose their temper. You need an assistant to make cabinetry for device’s such as this and to make you tools like a foot operated masher for the tungsten seal and a thumbscrew for that makita drill. Crazy thought …how about a mist chamber to make oxide coating. Use an atomizer for like a gecko an induction heat and test samples to create run time. Someone to straighten tungsten wire for you. <uhum> The tungsten amazes me I got tungsten carbide crystals white hot and hit them with a sledge hammer and all it did was dent the hammer.

Shouldn’t the ‘ballast’ capacitors be 25uF for a reactance of 105 Ohms @60 Hz?

love your channel. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I was wondering if you’ve ever seen or heard of someone repairing a VFD display. My Akai AX80 has a broken glass nib seal on one of the 5 screens. The corner patch has oxidized white. But part of me wonders if these can still be saved if properly vacuumed and sealed again. I don’t think there’s any gas in VFD’s. Thank you for any help

The Warm sound of the old amplifiers takes me way back to my childhood we had two Large Radio/Record players form the late 1930s. The sound is ver comforting. I worked on those old radios, it got me interested in Electronics and have been working with electronics for the past 60 years, i was 10 when i worked on those old radio/record players

It's not just that you made the tubes, but that you made most of the tools to build the tubes, test them, and THEN built the amp.

@57:40 "It kinda works." NO. It worked flawlessly. To your point, yes, it could be improved here and there. I guess, now that I've seen someone build tubes from scratch, now I want to see hand-built resistors and capacitors and transformers, too! If the magic glowy tubes can be built from scratch, surely those can be as well, right? This was amazing. Cheers!

@Olilen1323Ай бұрын
hello, what vacuum pump do you use? Is a two-stage pump enough to obtain the appropriate vacuum pressure?
@jdflybackАй бұрын
Yes, I use an edwards e2m1 2 stage rotary vane pump for my tubes. This works but just barely. The poor vacuum allows for only use of pure tungsten for the cathode which leads to low emission. The vacuum also requires the use of a titanium getter instead of a normal barium one
