Thank you for posting this. My bike had its front suspension rebuilt to carry a chainsaw up front most of the time (0.35 to 0.42 springs) and wow, the ride is crazy harsh without the saw. Wanted to see how you would switch out the springs for the originals and/or change the length of that preload tube. Now I'm wondering if you even need to remove any fluid to do the bit with changing springs.

Hey, don't know if you are riding or not still but how did the shock work with air vs. 100% nitrogen? I get what people are saying because the mfg wants you to use nitrogen but air itself is 80% nitrogen. Would love to know if you could tell a difference or not.

Using a length of hose to pull the damper rod up through the spring was the exact stroke of genius I needed today. I love little tricks like that and it came in clutch! It labored me to watch this. A few tools you could use to make this easier a rubber mechanics hammer instead of a carpenters hammer, a couple mechanics punches to fit in the holes for prying the cap off the shock body instead of a carpenters chisel, a finer file for chamfering the shaft after grinding it. Most alarming of all you recharging your shock with air instead of nitrogen. Also I would never disassemble something like this without having all the parts to rebuild it including a new seal head. This really isn’t a very difficult job but you made it look like it was.

Really appreciate this video. I watched it several times and just completed a refresh on my 2006 KDX front end, including the forks, as well as the steering bearings, etc. I did not upgrade the valve (kept stock spring and valve, which I really like due to the slow technical riding we do), but I did Cerakote the triple clamps and the bottom fork tubes. Thanks again. Well done.

I’m doing this same job. Sent my valves to Jeff Fredette and he sent them back with settings using new race tech .42 springs. 100mm 7w oil and stock preload. My question is how to figure preload on these forks and also stock preload is over 3cm which is way over common Mx preload. Any insight?
@dirtbikeprojectchannel91432 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, I didn't notice this comment and I know it's been a while since you posted it. You're probably done with the job already. The spring preload does not equal fork sag. Preload is put on the spring to achieve the right sag. Sag is how much the forks compress when you ride the bike. I'd go with what they recommend to start out with and adjust from there. I'm sure you could also call them up and ask and they would probably have a better answer than I would since it's their product. The video itself isn't really about the tuning, just how to take the forks apart and get them back together again. I'm no expert suspension tuner, but it sure is fun to learn. There's some good information on kdxrider.net if you have not been there yet, it's a whole forum dedicated to the kdx bikes. I also own the race tech suspension bible book and it's been so helpful to learn about what all the measurements mean and do. I recommend that if you're wanting to really learn how your suspension works. There's no way I can compress all that knowledge into one video or comment.

What do the wires do
@dirtbikeprojectchannel91433 жыл бұрын
I assume you're talking about the wires that plug into the top of the carb. See my previous answer about that, someone else asked what that was for. It's a heater of some sort, I assume to keep ice from forming in there.

Did you remove and rebuild the compression adjuster as well? When your video begins, the adjuster is attached as if you did not remove/clean/new o-rings.

What about the stuff you put before the Main jet the little pipe things I’m not sure what there called
@dirtbikeprojectchannel91433 жыл бұрын
I had to watch that part of the video to try and understand what you're talking about. I didn't put anything under the main jet. The first jet I put in is the pilot jet, followed by the main jet. The pilot jet controls the amount of fuel delivered at idle and low throttle. Is this what you were asking about?

@@dirtbikeprojectchannel9143 Thank you for replying but I figured out when you unscrew the main jet screw there is two other pieces in the little main jet I’m not sure if you took them out but one you can see sticking out if you look through the air intake to engine were the needle pushes into

That sucks man. Sorry you got hurt. I crashed in the same spot on the first lap and hit the same tree but, I was lucky enough to just clip it with my right shoulder. Nasty bruise but nothing serious so I was able to finish race albeit pretty slow. I could not figure out what caused me to crash but, looking at your video it appears that a stump on the upside of the ditch got both of us. Hope you heal-up quickly!
@dirtbikeprojectchannel91433 жыл бұрын
Luckily I found out I don't need surgery, so I hope to be back for maybe the race in August. I can't decide if that stump/roots got me or if the suspension just bottomed and sent me in a weird direction, but either way, bad luck hitting the tree. I need new footpegs. I finally got a chance to look at the bike and the peg is bent back pretty far. See you at the races!

What are those tw0 wires for ? My new carb doesn't have them. I need help. Lol?
@dirtbikeprojectchannel91433 жыл бұрын
The two wires go to a heater. If you look at the OEM parts diagrams(I found it in the electrical harness diagram, not the carburetor diagram), this is what it's called. I can only assume this is to keep the carburetor from icing up, I can't think of any other reason there would be a heater in there. When air goes through a venturi, the pressure goes down, and the air speeds up. This is how the carburetor is able to pick up fuel from the float bowl. The air also goes down in temperature. The air can get down to a temperature where the humidity in the air condenses and freezes, causing ice to build up in there. I fly airplanes too and on carbureted airplanes you have to turn carburetor heat on and off to prevent ice build up during different phases of flight. I've never seen a carburetor heater on any other bike besides this one. I've read online a bunch of comments from people saying they unplugged it and they had no issues, but I never tried it. I hope this answers your question.
@silkcustoms5203 жыл бұрын
@Get at it, I’m guessing you have an aftermarket carb on your Bike, not the OEM carb. I believe the aftermarket carbs don’t have the heater assembly attached. Like Ryan stated, It is used to warm up the fuel in colder temps giving a better idle and throttle response.
@zackwest36652 жыл бұрын
So the aftermarket carb with no heater is a perfect direct fit with no issues??
