I'm stuck on my XR600 project right now waiting for a couple more parts and some tools I want to try out for cleaning up the frame and other parts for paint. In the meantime, I'm putting a few how-to videos out there. This one is about cleaning a carburetor using my son's TTR-90 as an example.

Great Job. I just rebuilt my Son’s TTR90 carb and Chrome polished the whole thing and the intake. Took quite a while

Where do you buy a new pilot jet for this carburetor? Mine was all crimped and mangled. Thank you!

There's tons of places you can get the jets. Here's a link to rocky mountain atv that says they have them. Rocky Mountain ATV is also where I bought the whole rebuilt kit from. www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/mikuni-vm28-486-series-pilot-jet-p?v=1498

My choke plunger won't come out. It's like it seized in there. Probably why my bikes stalling out? How to fix?! Thanks

Good question. It's hard to say without looking at it myself, but I have seen things like choke plungers stick if they haven't been used in a long time. If this is the case, you might be able to coax it loose with some extra force, but be careful not to bust your cable. This would only apply if the choke is stuck off (closed). This would also usually mean that your cut out issue is not a choke problem, probably just plugged up and dirty carb.

@@dirtbikeprojectchannel9143 Well, that's the thing, we ride our bikes about every other weekend all summer so when the ttr 90 started stalling out I assumed it was time for a carb and air filter clean. That's when I found out the choke plunger was seized up. It looks like it's been like that for a while. Makes me wonder if we've been running the bike with the choke stuck open this whole time and didn't know it? Although it seemed to be working just fine to us. It's a head scratcher. Well, I got the choke cable off and still intact. I just have to figure out how to remove the plunger now. Smh...lol

I wached you video took mine apart successfully but i didn't see a seet for the float needle.?
@dirtbikeprojectchannel9143
@dirtbikeprojectchannel9143 3 жыл бұрын
I happened to click on your name and it took me to your videos and you happened to have a video about your bike. This helps a lot, I wasn't sure what you meant by the float needle. What you had in the video that wasn't in your kit is the needle jet. The needle slides in and out of that thing to regulate the fuel going into the engine. The main jet usually screws in underneath it and sits in the float bowl. That's a nice looking bike! Mine is the older model year without the electric start. Many aftermarket carburetor rebuild kits don't have certain parts and mine didn't come with the needle jet either. Some carbs you can't get the needle jet out anyway. Since it didn't come with one, I didn't remove it in my video. You'd have to get one from Yamaha probably. One other idea for that carburetor as a whole is it might do well being put in an ultrasonic cleaner to get more of that caked on stuff out of the carburetor. Some shops have this and you can pay to have them do it. Good luck with it!

What are those tw0 wires for ? My new carb doesn't have them. I need help. Lol?
@dirtbikeprojectchannel9143
@dirtbikeprojectchannel9143 3 жыл бұрын
The two wires go to a heater. If you look at the OEM parts diagrams(I found it in the electrical harness diagram, not the carburetor diagram), this is what it's called. I can only assume this is to keep the carburetor from icing up, I can't think of any other reason there would be a heater in there. When air goes through a venturi, the pressure goes down, and the air speeds up. This is how the carburetor is able to pick up fuel from the float bowl. The air also goes down in temperature. The air can get down to a temperature where the humidity in the air condenses and freezes, causing ice to build up in there. I fly airplanes too and on carbureted airplanes you have to turn carburetor heat on and off to prevent ice build up during different phases of flight. I've never seen a carburetor heater on any other bike besides this one. I've read online a bunch of comments from people saying they unplugged it and they had no issues, but I never tried it. I hope this answers your question.

@Get at it, I’m guessing you have an aftermarket carb on your Bike, not the OEM carb. I believe the aftermarket carbs don’t have the heater assembly attached. Like Ryan stated, It is used to warm up the fuel in colder temps giving a better idle and throttle response.

So the aftermarket carb with no heater is a perfect direct fit with no issues??

What about the stuff you put before the Main jet the little pipe things I’m not sure what there called
@dirtbikeprojectchannel9143
@dirtbikeprojectchannel9143 3 жыл бұрын
I had to watch that part of the video to try and understand what you're talking about. I didn't put anything under the main jet. The first jet I put in is the pilot jet, followed by the main jet. The pilot jet controls the amount of fuel delivered at idle and low throttle. Is this what you were asking about?

@@dirtbikeprojectchannel9143 Thank you for replying but I figured out when you unscrew the main jet screw there is two other pieces in the little main jet I’m not sure if you took them out but one you can see sticking out if you look through the air intake to engine were the needle pushes into

@dirtbikeprojectchannel9143
@dirtbikeprojectchannel9143 3 жыл бұрын
I assume you're talking about the wires that plug into the top of the carb. See my previous answer about that, someone else asked what that was for. It's a heater of some sort, I assume to keep ice from forming in there.

It goes to a 2000 TTR 90 dirt bike. If you're asking for the brand or model number, I've sold the bike, so I can't look to double check.
