Old man here. When I was a kid (50's-60's) one could buy sassafras root in any grocery store. It came in baggy-sized packs that weighed 1/4 to 1/2 pound. It was dried root flakes. My mom use to make sassafras tea all the time and I loved it. We added a spoonful of sugar to a cup. I definitely did not have any side effects other than enjoying the taste

Those trees are very very big for sassafras. The sapling is probably birch. The color in your tea indicates birch.

@@prayfornathannatureshow I have tons of sassafras. 30 ft tall is a big tree, but they could be? Also, I've never seen big buds at the end of branches on saplings (or trees), and have never seen such green bark on a sapling. Also your description of taste and smell is Birch.
@prayfornathannatureshow
@prayfornathannatureshow 26 күн бұрын
@@ronsmith7749 Yes the big trees are 100% sassafras without a doubt. The saplings, I haven't seen birches ever growing in this area but it was many years ago, who knows they could be. Smelt like sassafras, I don't recall birch having the same scent as the sassafras but I value your opinion, and under consideration, I should try it again one day with a more confirmed source of sassafras.

Boil sassafras root and bark from root in water. Filter roots and dump filtered water back in pot. Then add caustic soda aka lye.you can use some toilet bowl cleaner.boil for a few. Add more lye and a hyd.peroxide.that bonds and makes wood alcohol.dont breath the steam.let dry.flush with water few times to dilute the bad chemicals. Dry again. And then you have mda. Your welcome

In the spring, the sap that was in the roots is now in the tree. Tree stems and leaves near the tips are high in it. Just like caffeine in tea leaves and thc in marijuana. But too much of it can make you sick, not high, because of the other compounds along with it.

Great video. So glad you kept the camera facing forward most of the time so we could see something nice (and the scenery was great). Fire side chat was a nice summary. Watched (skipped past most of) another canoeing video a few days ago where the camera was literally facing the videographer's nose 75% of the time. I'm glad he likes himself that much, but for me it was too boring to endure in its entirety. Your film I watched from beginning to end. Thanks for putting it up. Liked your idea of doing a video trip with a new lady each time, but first clearing it with your wife. So subtle and funny.

I learned how to drive standard on that truck. Modern Cleaners was in Sturgeon Falls and belonged to my father’s friend who owned that property. My dad drove that truck to that Obabika site over the ice. I spent a great deal of my childhood there before the property was sold to a local logging company. We used that truck to haul firewood and to haul the gear from the plane on the beach to the camps"

Sorry dude, people have been using plants as entheogens for the entire history of our species and honestly thats why they are here. These plants have cures for disease and yes some might get you high but you have to learn to look past that aspect and see the bigger picture. The earths biosphere has medicinal and recreational compounds in various plants and animals that have been used ceremonially as medicine and to say that one shouldnt harvest the root bark for making into safrole or just to ingest it is kind of pointless as thats what its for. These plants are beautiful I agree but the real issue is with modern encroachment into these plant and animal habitats. Wouldnt it make more sense to set aside habitat for all types of plant and animal life and exclude that portion from being harvested and let people do withoit if they cant take care of what they have but to say dont use these compounds goes against our very nature. Entheogens are real medicine and their habitats need to be protected for future study and to protect these species but we learn from exploring these things and im pretry sure there is a cure to most every ailment right here in the biosphere but we must explore the compounds to learn of their properties.

interesting that they form a ring around the stump - almost like mourning or paying tribute... do you know why this happens?
@prayfornathannatureshow
@prayfornathannatureshow 6 ай бұрын
Yes, that I do. So when the tree falls over, dies, or is cut down the roots are still good and new shoots will grow up around there, forming a circle around the stump. The stump disappears over time.
